Will we ever get the Power play revamp we deserve?

Will we ever get it?

Make it so it's truly dynamic? Powers can rise and fall, survive and die, be victorious or suffer defeat. Make it so people can work from all three modes but also make it so the participation in each mode fits the mode.

Let every career contribute. Powerplay has the potential to be the larger underlying meta game that all of this fits into. Pirate Lord's, Trade factions, AX groups, miners, bounty hunting factions, explorer groups, fps base raiders, mission board junkies, etc etc etc. There's plenty of playstyles for all, and if we all have a deeper meta game to push forward.

FC now provide a soft customizable infrastructure in the game. We just need that underlying fabric to tie it all together.

Powerplay as a concept could be that, IF it was reworked.

Will we ever get that underlying fabric?

No is the kindest answer. FD have little idea what to do with Powerplay and (IMO) they view it as a very low priority.

We will get a rebalance of it in the near term but anything more is going to be small in scope I think, no more in size than Sandros old proposal. I'd cry proper man tears if FD pulled a surprise party with it, but they are going to be sorting out legs for the next year :(

Unfortunate. But it's exactly what I expected.

It could really be the feature to tie a lot of the game together, I really, really want it to be a thing (and I'll prod the CMs about it) but right now its all hands (legs) on deck I think.

Although, I think FD have my avatar on a dartboard with my badgering :D
Yeah it has so much potential, and every feature could be tied together with it. Let us know if you get any information crumbs lol

After loads of people asking about Powerplay in the recent Q & As, AMAs etc they said Powerplay "is on the radar, just not quite yet" (along with AX rebalancing) so something is coming. I just expect it after Odyssey comes out when FD have time on their hands.

What makes me jaded is that this has happened before, where we get within touching distance and something inside FD pivots to something else.

You ain't kidding. We had that flash feedback what 2? 3? Years ago. I had so much hope then lol

I would like power play to have links to BGS, what I mean is.. when performing BGS in systems, depending on the super power, you alignment and how your squad is linked mission change.

Even boost INF or reduce INF on mission according to being aligned with super power.
Offer special super power missions when you aligned etc

Make hostile to a super power mean you get attacked, at the moment nothing happens flying in hostile to super power system has no danger.

Lets make elite dangerous, dangerous

And yes I know its dangerous in pvp etc, im referring to the mechanics

Yeah every activity should be a lever on the same underlying meta game like a powerplay mechanic.

@Rubbernuke I've see a lot of your posts pushing for a PP update (Ive never really bothered with it because its just meh!) Im curious to know if you could totally rewrite it from ground up - how do you see it fitting in the current game fabric? What would you have in it for everyone to get involved?

Wall of text! Apologies but I can;t help it with Powerplay :D

In short I see it like this.

A bit of history first: originally the BGS was never meant to be pushed by players like it is, and I think FD saw Powerplay as the territorial war aspect the BGS eventually turned into. However the BGS was pushed and I think internally that left Powerplay stuck- the BGS is self contained (i.e. you expand / contract naturally, uses all the game activities).

Powerplay never got iterated on, while the BGS got the love. Powerplay kind of acts as a bad Venn diagram for ED, it overlaps the worst aspects and not really highlights the good bits.

Flash to now- Powerplay is the withered cousin of the BGS so (IMO) whatever it offers it has to offer something different to the BGS so that Powerplay has a place in the game- otherwise, why keep it? Personally there is only one niche the game does not have, that Powerplay almost gets right- real time PvP.

Powerplay is in essence the opposite of the BGS- the BGS is an anonymized and heavily abstracted collation of a ticks activity. Powerplay is almost 1:1 real time in nature- you can track a merit from it being collected and dropped and see the UI register it almost immediately. You (in theory) could stop that happening too. So, in short Powerplay has to cater to that real time aspect and leverage Open more.

I really do think Open allows more emergent content- I've played Powerplay in both solo and open, and personally open really makes the feature sing, mainly as NPCs can never threaten or outthink you. But, Open only frightens a lot of people, and depending on what you subscribe to some of those problems are justified and intractable (P2P, console subs etc). But again ED needs a place for PvP and mass real time co -op.

So, if I ever could wave a wand (and keep it realistic) I do one of these- all of them cater for all modes too.

Taking Sandros and fleshing it out: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threa...ti-5c-mode-specific-plus-other-tweaks.552045/

The last one is the most fleshed out and closest to what I'd like- it also takes what we have now and caters for all modes (just does not blend them together and expect them to work :D)

A more realistic set of tweaks could be these-

Its the most 'middle ground' you can get (and the easiest for FD to do).

Thank you for your reply - will be some good bed time reading :)

This just highlights that a lot of improvements can be made to really give ED a whole new spark of life.

I love the last link there especially.
