Hello.
Sometimes I think that I have all fed up with his translations of articles in Russian
mosking.gif

After all, except for me no one else writes in Russian, and in my thread on the forum did not respond.
So I am sorry if my post suddenly someone interfere =)

About Troll - to solve their problems, as correctly noted, is used ignoring messages, and the introduction of online ratings.
If you vote positively for the user or the message will be the only ones who have a sufficient rating, in most cases, the troll can not cheat yourself positive reputation, and posters in a digital reputation (if it is displayed next to the name) will be able to understand - should listen to this user or message without meaning.

And that’s what I have been doing; I take great satisfaction that every time I see a post it just says
“This message is hidden because XXXXXXXX is on your ignore list.”
It makes me smile when I reply to the post just before their post, knowing that they are being ignored.

See, this is the problem I have with most forums - they still tell you when the person you're ignoring posts. And when you post something that you know they'll disagree with, and they post directly afterwards, you know, you just know, that they're slandering you in that post, and then it all goes downhill from there. Personally I prefer to not even be notified that their post exists.

That said, I've only actually wanted to ignore members on two forums. One of them was a truly idiotic staff member who genuinely believed his opinion was fact (really, he actually said so himself) and was actively flaming anyone who disagreed. But you can't ignore staff members, and since the other staff didn't seem to react to my complaints about him, I left instead.

The other was a group of trolls who would simply disagree with everything said, even if it means contradicting themselves, and make veiled personal attacks against members constantly. I couldn't really ignore them, and again the staff didn't react, so I left there instead too.

I seem to leave a lot of forums...

I haven't blocked anyone and I cannot see any reason to. I may be annoyed by someone's views, but that's the way world works. There are all sorts of people around us and it is part of being a human to accept that fact.

Besides, I do not pay much attention to who has posted a message or a thread.

Hey :) Keep it up mate, all this translation is very impressive! ive been looking at your translation thread from time to time, and that's alot of hard work. Think we can safely say for the moment, your Elite D number one Russian fan here! :)

Hopefully when game goes live, there will be more Russians wanting to play, and your translations guide will help out when needed.
Again keep it up ;)

Ps as for Trolls, i either wind them up, or just ignore.

I did block someone, but I ended up reading their posts anyway and if anything the "You have blocked this user" highlighted the posts more than everything else!

So I unblocked to throw their posts into the maelstrom of everyone else's posts again!

Hey, you keep it up! I know that elite and oolite have huge Russian followings and without the amazing efforts by people like you that wouldn't be the case. Your efforts are definitely appreciated and respected! :)

Tiz always sad to hear when people can't behave themselves. :D
I try to never criticise someone for disagreeing with me, as even i disagree with me most of the time. ;)
But i know i'm always right, so what can ya do!

I've disagreed with quite a few people here, and there are a few people's posts that i now skip over without reading because they haven't exactly been nice in some of the posts they've posted. :(
Mainly i try to read as many posts as i can!
But because of time constraints sometimes i'll just read the op, comment on that, then move on to the next topic.

Impressive use of smileys that!

one thing i am starting to notice with a few of the threads where the the original poster is updating the first post is something i refer to as 'god modding the thread'

the whole thing describes itself as a discussion with points that are made added to the first post but the editor sets themselves up as the supreme being who decides using their infinite wisdom what is included in the OP, I've made some long and detailed posts adding to discussions only to end with my summation being ignored and my idea being dismissed as 'too complicated' despite the fact i summed it up in ten words or less.

we all do it to some extent, i sometimes ask a user to clarify their point or expand of their suggestion before including it in the OP of a thread i'm looking after.

instead of a single person being my Nemesis on forums it's those users that pretend to be hearts and flowers then ignore or dismiss out of hand any point that doesn't fit their own predefined worldview that fill that role for me.

See, this is the problem I have with most forums - they still tell you when the person you're ignoring posts.

Same here. I blocked one person after he had a bit of a bad reaction to me saying I thought his idea sucked, but when I ignore someone, I want to do just that. Not be constantly reminded that they're posting and that I'm effectively sticking my fingers in my ears shouting "NARNARNAR" :) .

So I unblocked him and things seem to have calmed down now.

There have been some posts that I've found annoying but if I'd blocked those members I wouldn't have read some very interesting posts that they'd made.

I too hope you will keep updating your translations DobrijZmej. It's well known that your part of the world has a massive space sim fanbase and the Elite Games website is always a busy place indeed . Could any Russian speakers please help out DobrijZmej?

I tried that on a thread I started, it wasn't for God-modding though. Points do get repeated in long threads and having a bullet point listing of suggestions already made is useful to new posters, saves on the duplication. Depends on the nature of the thread though and assumes the OP is going to be unbiased in that summary.

It was hard on the one I did, as I vehemently disagreed with some of the suggestions, but I decided I was going to remain rigorously neutral and summary everything that wasn't a duplicate.

It does leave the OP open to criticism if they misunderstand a point someone was trying to make though, in the end it was just too much work to try and present things without bias or misquotation.

if its a subject that could be contentious i have in the past put peoples names above suggestions they've made and linked them to the original post, it a lot of work but hard to misunderstand that way. there will always be bias as that's part of human nature and i don't mind that, what gets my back up is people who pretend to give equal weight to all arguments then clearly don't.

sorry, off-topic for The Lone Gunman, Selezen and Geraldine

Oh, thanks for the words of support, they are very important to me, honestly.
I am very glad that my posts are useful, because I'm worried that they will be perceived as bothersome.
And thanks to those who help me, and on this forum, and the Russian-speaking forum.

I havent blocked anyone on this forum yet. i did once on another fourm but that only cut out PMs. I do often have strong views on subjects. Generally those ideas are based upon a solid logic. But I am also very open to change when someone elses logic makes a lot of sense. I have to say I think the posters who have annoyed me the most have had their guns turned at others and I tend to think "What a berk". I am someone who likes a debate on principles and am always happy to discuss at length the reason and rationale behind things. Im also prone to the odd burst of humour that could be taken the wrong way.

I'm going to give a general comment, not directed at anyone, but something that I think needs to be considered in general terms when discussing forum behaviour.

We are an international community. There are quite a few people on this board who are not native English speakers. They are from different countries with different cultures, and how you express yourself, and how you apologise, and what is perceived as polite and what is perceived as rude differs.

I'm Norwegian, Brits tend to find Norwegians a "little" rude in the way we express ourselves. One common claim is that we never say thank you or please. This is mainly because those terms are used less in Norwegian and our day to day speak contain fewer "polite" expressions.

So we are not being rude intentionally. We are transfering our way of expressing ourselves in our native language to the way we express ourselves in English. That can come across as somewhat rude in many cases.
This is not an excuse, but I would ask that everyone take such differences into consideration when reading other peoples posts.

I have seen discussions on forums go completely wrong because of lacking language skills and people misunderstand each other, and neither part understanding why.

Valid comments, Gimi! I've often thought that we Brits are a little too arrogant, as regards non-native English speakers. I have been lucky enough to travel widely, and I have learned that various nationalities express themselves in subtly different ways.

On a general point about this forum: I see a little too much language used that can only be described as laddish - I find such language a little offensive, but more to the point, it is unnecessary.
