C2 hybrid Advanced Docking Computer & Supercruise Assist

I love the docking computer & supercruise assist because it's a huge pain to manually dock or manually pilot my way to something several thousand AU away, but many of the bigger ships are devoid of or have very few internal C1 slots, and aside from convenience (which is the purpose of the modules in the first place) there's nothing against creating a C2 hybrid of both of the modules so that larger ships can fit them without wasting some space, you know? It's not like the C2 version has to be any better than the C1 versions, and if it costs a million credits then I still wouldn't mind using it.

Docking, Advanced Docking, Planetary Landing, and Supercruise Assist should all be A/B/C/D/E options on the slot that holds the Planetary Landing Computer with cumulative effects.:

E rated is nothing
D rated gets you planetary landings
C rated gets you docking
B rated gets you advanced docking
A rated gets you Supercruise Assist.

Maybe for the same reason that you can't run Windows 10 on an abacus.

Software is only ever half the solution.

It's all software anyway, I dont' get why it needs to take up slots.

It's ship balance and choice, it to force you to make decisions about what you do and don't put on your ships. You also have to consider that free size 1 slots were given out when these modules were introduced, so those small ships that have lots of size 1 module slots never actually had lots of size 1 slots, two of those were added when the new modules were introduced so they wouldn't chew up precious internal slots on small ships. I mean yes you could combine them, then remove the extra added slots, but it essentially comes to the same thing, and players who don't use them would end up losing precious slots they can use to fit extra size 1 modules.

Autopilot would be my own preference. Capable of planetary landings, docking, undocking, supercruise assist and executing several jumps.... it doesn't have to be perfect.
Right now I have 17k ly of distance left which I have to plot manually, even with one jump per 17min that takes a while. I wish there was an option to execute consecutive jumps until no fuel was left in tank.

Imagine a world where all of that functionality is default in all spaceships.

Our ships can auto pilot onto and from an uneven, unique planet surface when we recall/dismiss it, but somehow requires an additional 2 separate pieces of hardware and software that weight literally tons in order to auto pilot into a galactic standard sized landing pad, or to maintain course in a straight line at a constant throttle setting.

We can already toggle the features off if we want to be hardcore. Just make them default behaviours of ships.

Definitely agree on them being a default option. I fail to the see what's at stake here, what balancing it would break (aside from the anecdotical matter of additionnal slot added for these, easily fixed if that really is a thing).

Nobody cares if you autodock or dock "like a real man", it won't affect anything. Although I prefer docking manually, and I remember being rather against the autodock modules when they were introduced - because in 2014, docking felt like a very important part of the game, as focus was very much on the flying mechanics -, now I feel these modules are an artificial gamy limit with no particular purpose.

I've always removed these modules (except planetary landing oc), I don't see the point of sacrificing a slot for them (maybe because I don't fly T9 or Cutters), I'd rather have a fuel/repair limpet controller or 2 tons of extra cargo space. But I understand those who appreciate the comfort.

You need to know how to dock mostly for smuggling... Also, there used to be the issue of the broken canopy, but it's no longer relevant as synthesis and mats give you more than enough time to enjoy the luxury of relying on autodocking.

No really I can't find a situation in which your preference regarding docking method would matter.

And I kind of feel the same about supercruise assist, though I haven't used it enough to be sure about this one. The one time I did, I didn't get the point, but I didn't dig into it that much.

NOW from time to time, for RL reasons, I wouldn't mind having the option of autodocking just to be able to take a break from the game (go make tea, check mails, etc.) ; it would make things a bit more fluid. But not worth it InGame.

I personnaly feel they should be default in every ship as a QoL improvement. As an in game balancing thingy, err... It's pretty much hollow.
