Excited about Dev Diary 4!

It is fair to ask people, in their discourse, to extend courtesy to others who interpret an AMBIGUOUS statement differently than you rather than assume your interpretation is correct and others are stupid for seeing it differently. the “rocket science” crack was rather dismissive.

@ GT_Stuart You're absolutely right. Statements and words can only be interpreted one way, hence it isn't Rocket Science which deals with absolutes and non-interpretive values.

I see they respectfully said it can be interpreted your way, and you post an insult. This is a bad look. You can share your opinion without belittling others.

I took it as to mean DD4, and I love Dr. Kay and listening to her, but that was hardly inline with a Dev diary giving us information on the game.

I hope these words find you well, and you consider what I have said without taking offense.
What insult?

Really? What can an alpha decide... there are two options as I see it; after you die on foot you either, respawn in your ship, or you eat a rebuy. How does the Alpha help make that decision?
I’m seriously baffled that this is even a question. to me it seems entirely consistent and logical to state that for the purpose of good gameplay that death in Odyssey will be handled EXACTLY as it is now... in your ship if you die you will spawn at last station. In your SRV if you die you will spawn in your ship. And extend that out to... on foot if you die you will spawn on your ship... yes this breaks IMMERSION but unless we are looking to make this an ultra realistic NUZLOCK game where you start over upon death we are going to have to allow for handwavium in the service of good gameplay... so what it’s a game. Always focus on gameplay over immersion but that’s just my opinion...

Hahaha, how is that an insult? :ROFLMAO:
Whenever you say "it isn't rocket science" you are implying that is is overly simplistic and should be easy for everyone to get.

You used it as your interpretation was correct, and everyone's was wrong. It was very reductive. You're a mod, I would hope you would be a bit more understand of what might be offensive and allow people to have their viewpoints in a constructive conversation.

They could be undecided on if it will be like SRV destruction, or if we'll be sent to some kind of medical facility and pay a fee like with ship rebuy...I dunno haha

EDIT: With the medical facility I just mean you could get a screen with the fee (like with your ship rebuy) and then you just spawn in at the social hub or in your docked ship 🤷‍♂️

Well, what do you think an Alpha serves for?
And how it is different from a Beta test?

Frontier said it was correct:
"Content creators" asked Frontier for clarification on this recently in the Odyssey Program.

Bruce clarified, very specifically that he wasn't necessarily referring to a dev diary in that livestream.
I also never said "everyone's was wrong", I replied to two people when stating what Bruce said. There's a lot of hyperbole going on today :D

Being a Reddit & Discord mod doesn't restrict me from correcting misinformation or saying how things are. I'd be a low-quality AI if I didn't have any opinions ;)

My guess would be ALPHA is people who bought early access (including LEP) to work out the kinks of the mechanics like they did with FC beta 1. And then BETA will be the stress test with as many people as possible having access like FC BETA2 Except this time the smaller group larger group will be preorders/all PC players whereas last time it was ALL PC players with 5BILLION and ALL PLATFORMS at greatly reduced price. But that’s just my guess.

I see you refuse to take responsibility. That's a shame. And a lot people were in agreement with what the two people you replied to said.
You haven't acknowledged how it was reductive.

Respawn mechanics after death are more complicated IMO than something that can be iterated upon in an alpha. Just to create an alpha you already need to have a starting point, and the fact that they have not articulated that starting point for the most fundamental of mechanics, one that has precident... is extremely concerning.

It is like Odysseus saying that he has not decided whether to bring fresh water on the boat...
