Positive OPEN or Player with Player experiences.

PS4 Open is pretty quiet at the best of times.

Followed a player Vette into a haz rez this morning to get some Sirius bounties for CG.

Another Vette already there and hard at it.

Threw out some wing invites and we racked up 20mil in no time at all and added one as a friend to boot.

Much easier than relogging/relocating or trying to chase them off.

Had a few, let me try to remember.

Gnosis - many explorers were disappointed, but I brought an exploration/AX-combat Krait and appeared to choose wisely - after an intense escape from the Gnosis under attack I hooked up with other CMDRs and tried to fight a Hydra, which didn't go so well, and then a CODE Thargoid lover entered the fray and caused even more pandemonium.

Sothis - got myself a silly bounty (like 600cr or less) in a paper Anaconda without Fuel Scoop fitted (PAX missions iirc, long time ago). When I left the station I got scanned, police opened up, and another CMDR decided to boost into sys-security to distract them so I could escape. I managed to limp to another station (selling fuel scoops, think I had to make do with a 3A or something) with the help of jumponium, we kept in touch and he was delighted I made it. Still on my friendlist I believe.

Thargoid Base - came across a random CMDR at the base who checked it out for the first time. I decided to give him a tour, gathered the relevant items and we met up there again. Entered the base with our SRVs together, it was like in the movie Prometheus. Showed him the alien map lightshow, and when we exited we even got checked out by an Interceptor. Customer was happy 5 stars.

Player Piracy - In Borann I did some piracy with an iCourier in the rings, fitted with reverb torps and a packhound rack. 8 tons of LTDs were apparently too greedy, but the repair bill was probably not worth being that stingy. They lived though only because I forgot to target their drives in time (that build was designed to maim, not destroy, killing your suppliers is bad for business you see).

Player Piracy II - Again in Borann, I fitted the same iCourier with a refinery instead, and planted myself underneath a noob T9 miner, stealing fragments off them while they mined the asteroid for me. Took them a while to notice, they then got angry at first and shot me with their mining lasers. He then asked me why, I said for science, he then laughed and said "should've just asked" (well that didn't work so well in the past haha). He offered me a few LTDs but the police arrived and I had to bail. He was happy I didn't destroy his ship and gave me a o7.

Miner protection - winged up with @Bigmaec and had an epic fight with a couple of Anaconda gankers trying to destroy mining ships, again in Borann. Managed to blow one up (well, Bigmaec did most of the work while I kept missing shots - practice makes perfect though right). Felt like Maverick & Goose:p

Bridge the Gap Interstellar Initiative - the one at the Guardian ruins - trying to get to the ruins was challenging but enjoyable because of hostile players camping the place, thankfully you're less visible in an SRV so depending on where they were you could sneak in and out unnoticed. I spent the entire week there in my Cobra 3, fitted for combat, and joined in on a wing fight between Harry Potter's group and SPEAR - 8 vs 8 I think roughly. Sometimes I'd just park up my SRV about 10-15km away and enjoy the laser show from a safe distance, and would sip on my Kongga Ale.

Carcosa - got one if not the best welcoming parties after travelling to Carcosa to help out Loren's Reapers. Still remember docking there with some players present, did some co-op CZs together, awesome. Great people but some sorely missed in the game.

AX combat - used to be part of an AX squadron, with the leader being very knowledgeable about anything AX so I learned a lot from them. Together (and with a handful others) managed to explode a Hydra. Another bucketlist item less.

Noob zone - was trying out the starter area on my alt account, and came across a player who tried to get to grips with surface scanning missions. It wasn't even that but they weren't yet familiar with basic concepts like recalling your ship; they thought they'd lost it :D They were very happy when I pointed out to them how to recall it.

That's probably enough for now, I'm sure there's more but those are definite highlights.

I remembar a hauling CG a couple (few?) years ago too.
Did a few runs in open just for fun.
Got pirated once, they wanted 80 of my 400 cargo. Could of high-waked when still in supercruise and facing each other, but because they chatted with me, I decided to play along. Dropped (abandoned) canisters, and there was not a shot fired.
At the station there was someone flying Eagle, "enforcing speed limit", was somewhat amusing to see them go pop and ask "did that ship get shot?" each time. :)
Also donated some CG goods to someone who needed instruction on how to scoop them.

Heh I just remember another guy, interdicted me, he said he'll scan me for docking computers, none on board so let me go. The way they phrased it was quite funny, made me chuckle. Still on my friend list.

This happened when I thought I was in solo.

I had recently gotten my first Cutter and was leaving a station, full of cargo and woefully uncomfortable with flying the beast. I approached the slot and the station announced to make way for larger vessels as I saw a Type-7 entering the station opposite me. I checked my speed, slowed down well under 100 ms, and proceeded forward until my Cutter and the Type-7 were pushing against each other, as I was the larger vessel.

Soon the station was warning of violations for blocking the slot and things were getting tense. I was making no headway, the Type-7’s shields were failing and, speeding or not, if it popped I was done for. It was clearly time to boost.

My Cutter drug the Type-7 along with it through the slot, scraping sounds intensifying the flashing red warnings and dire station alerts, leaving the stubborn Lakon at single digit hull value as I escaped with seconds left on the trespassing countdown and went on my way, thinking what stupid NPC behavior.

I then learned I was in open when I received a message from an unamused Type-7 pilot. We settled on no harm no foul as nobody met the rebuy screen and went our separate ways.

Stupid little story from years back, but is one of my most memorable player interactions, as I really felt like a rookie pilot in over his head in a very expensive ship that he was failing miserably at commanding, legitimately fearful of destruction, and eventually completely shocked that my docking nemesis was another player.

Heres a fun one: I was playing around in my "suped up" imperial eagle flying to a planet for a canyon run. I get interdicted by a guy in an Anaconda. He proceeds to tell me to freeze and dont move... I gently press my boost button and blast away at 930 m/s... his last words were "what, how???" Lol

Good times!
I just saw you in system chat in Sirius.
That was a positive experience. Siriusly!
(Sadly I had to go)

It's always good to bank a few karma points by helping new cmdrs figure out what to do around guardian sites and structures.
On recent trips it seems whenever I visit there is always at least one lost soul not quite sure of the procedure and terrified that I'm going to hurt them!

Even PvP can be positive. I'm currently engaged in a "personal narrative" played out and opposed in open. The potential surprise intervention by my "enemy" it what makes it interesting for me ( and I hope for them too). These sporadic encounters invariably end with me running away, having enjoyed the challenge and without any commander ships "going boom" despite my ineffectual efforts to the contrary!

I was bored one day whilst visiting the Dweller in Wyrd so as soon as I saw another Cmdr docked and tucked away in Outfitting I decided to position myself so that when they resurfaced I’d pop up right in front of them. I thought I’d try to mirror every move they made and see if I they made contact or if they’d just run away.

Not being the greatest pilot in the Galaxy it turned out to be more of an awkward uncle dance at a boozy wedding, at least that’s what my target told me when their confusion dissipated.

So we decided to spend some time trying to practice a routine until someone else turned up and we could try it out on them when they resurfaced. Half an hour spent pratting about 30-40km away until someone else turned up, so we let them head into the facility and took our performance positions.....I’m still not convinced they saw us, or they just immediately thought GANK but they spammed that boost button and missed a one night only extravaganza.

Open silliness is what keeps me in Open, it may be rare but it’s great when it happens.

Plenty of stories of random co operation, kindness (and p!ss taking) plus ingenious role play from random Cmdrs - wouldn’t miss it for the world, just wish I could play at busier times more often.

One of my favorite open moments was right after the discovery of the first guardian location. A friend and I were determined to find another location but this was before you could scan a planet and get PoIs. You literally had to slow crawl a planet in an SRV or do low level surface flying. It was slow going and right as we were about to pack it in we came up with a rather ingenious way to cover more ground and still use the SRV scanner.

I was able to jump my SRV on top my my friends AspX and ship surfed while scanning the planet with the SRV. It was going really well until one of our connections lagged causing my SRV to separate from the AspX and slow fall to the planets surface. Somewhere I think he still has the video of my SRV tumbling end over end with its headlights shinning like a beacon in the darkness.

Results wise, it was an unmitigated disaster. It was however amazingly fun.

Wow, a wn starting a thread about being positive rather than scoffing at how the forum fits on their bingo card or talking about animals or the worst movie actors they know of. Truly impressed.

Wish i had a story to share, but i don't play in open. Still, wish you and everyone else the best time for when your mouse doesn't make it across to the solo option while choosing servers.

Apart from PvP?

I had lots of fun doing work for Operation Ida (repairing the Starports). Ida has their own PG of course, and some were doing it in Mobius,
but the biggest thrill was jumping 350 LY with a full cargo hold, earning 50k cr (yes 50.000 cr!) per run and expecting getting ganked at the destination.
Luckily there were very few gankers in the Pleiades at that time, so I never lost a hull to gankers.

Also Thargoid hunting. Best were the times when the Oracle was first attacked, no one really new what to do, and the thrill of the rescues and the combat
was fantastic. But even now it's cool when you find impromptu alliances to blow up thargoids.

edit, haha yes piracy is cool too. Also avoiding piracy 😁

This video is the most positive experience for me with this thread - i see that I have the wrong kind of FSD, I need one with shorter spool up then I might be able to play in OPEN as well, despite my high ping. I have seen now that it is doable and I might be able to learn it good enough to survive there as well - kudos for showing us that video.

Pretty sure that was either a increased range or shielded FSD, so no spool up difference.
The difference is in submitting to the interdiction. At 1:50 you can see I reduce throttle to zero and can jump out nearly immediately.
Oh and never fight the interdiction like I did first, that can end badly.
