is for the announcement, not release.

It's probably a very bad estimate I agree! But that's the point of estimate's, to give people some degree of false hope that the result will actually be somewhere near that point, even if there is actually no chance. Anyone who has ever asked for a building estimate understands that, the estimate is to get you committed and spending money, it's only after it's to late to back out that the actual cost is revealed.

Well so far our base of operation has been our ship. Player owned carriers now exist, maybe a ground base is now a future possibility ?

Could just read it as being able to walk about is the new way to expand the frontier ?

If the statement had said 'Expand the frontier of unknown space' I would have fallen off my chair though !

I wouldn't read that much in this quote. I wouldn't hope for any persistent player base anytime soon. But I'd love to be proven wrong!
Though I'd be delighted with just some kind of foldable space tent to one could trek on the surface for an extended period.

I expect "expand the frontier" simply means that are adding more planets to explore, there's nothing at all in it to imply base building, at least that's my take!

These have always bugged me. Have any of these locked systems been unlocked since launch? Sure some may be locked for narrative reasons, but it could also be just some identified Stellar Forge buggy edge cases that FDEV blocks so they don't mess up or break the game.

They explicitly said base building is "not on the roadmap" - so don't expect it any time soon, even (tm).

That's one hell of a conclusion to jump to from the phrase 'expand the frontier' considering they said base building isn't on the road map, don't you think?
