Lets talk about interdictions, fines, and bounties.

Yesterday while doing the community goal in Sirius system, i had a blast with three random wingmates. With them, i collected a total of 32 mil credits before some random person ruined the fun, killed me for kicks whiIe i was concentrating on the pirates. I can live with that, part of the game.
Later that day i decided to go back in the Pirate activity zone and do bounty hunting by myself. Only collected about 2 million worth of credits then decided to "cash out" at the station. In SC to the station i got interdicted by a commander. Realized it was an actual human when they didnt do the usual NPC trick of either scan and go, or just attack. So of course, i prepared to defend myself. Released my fighter and deployed hardpoints. This person, in a FDL literally i guess played a game of chicken with me, in my Conda. I realized that i didnt have time to play and attacked him. in 20 seconds he was debris, but now i got a bounty for this, and i cant even pay it off until one week. Then i realized that i got trolled out of the community goal.
After researching, i realized this is the law of the game. But unless its a system authority, or im actually "wanted" no player should be interdicted and get penalized for killing the interdictor. Am i missing something here?

Interdiction is one thing but he who shoots first, started the fight.

So, interdiction isnt starting a fight? Perfect example, in the real world, theres a difference between getting pulled by the cops and pulled by a civilian. If im pulled by a civilian, i have the right to defend myself (well at least in my state) without penalty. Also, if i would have turned and run, theres a change he would just keep interdicting. Which makes no sense still.

Well, silly or not, thems the rules.

1. Interdicting a clean ship gets you a fine, not a bounty, so if you retaliate first, you get the bounty.

2. Notoriety decays 1 point per 2 hours in game, so you can pay off the bounty after that time.

3. The bounty only applies to that ship, so any other ship is fine if you want to cash in.

it takes two hours.

Also lmao at the scrub in the FDL imagine going out in a gankboat and dying to a conda
🤷‍♂️ he started it. Im assuming he thought i was a newb, or not fitted out for smoke. Im more than sure he had a change of heart when i launched my fighter, then he realized that i might be a handful. Also that might have been his strategy, egg me on enough to make me shoot first. Was already frustrated from my earlier session when i got killed by another commander while i was engaged with a pirate, wasnt about to chance that again. Ill try later today, or whip out the alliance challenger.

If he was trying to egg you on then he lost several million and you lost five grand. Joke's on him.

And honestly, even launching a fighter shouldn't make a difference. If he's going after condas at a bounty-hunting CG he should expect to encounter fighters and combat fits.

(personally, I think interdicting someone should make you valid for attack, but the game doesn't have any mechanism for this other than issuing a bounty)

That is true

Use a different ship and you good to go until the 2h are up. If you get pulled by somebody and you don't recognize them as PvPers or career gankers let them shot first if you have crimes on. Or even better try to escape if you have valuables (bounties, data) on board. They are trying to prevent you on delivering that valuables to the CG station.

Good job on killing the interdictor, that's hilarious.

No some navies will also interdict you for security check.

If you are pulled by a civilian after assaulting another person and then shoot him that's going to result in a murder charge. I am not aware of anywhere in the world where you can get away with shooting and killing someone if they just stand in front of you to impede your progress. In this case the other player wasn't attacking you, so you can't argue it was self defense, he was just blocking your progress, like someone standing in a doorway.

Would be interested to hear which state you live in where you can shoot and kill someone with no penalty for standing in a doorway and not letting you pass. Just so I can avoid it you understand, with madmen around I prefer to give it a clear berth!
