Why Small Seismic Charges are the community's most demanded module and SSCs will solve all ED's problems

Why not just have mining limpets.

They replace mining lasers (which dont really make much sense anyway) and ablation blasters. That frees up hardpoints.

The limpets can only do the ablation blasters job if you manage to launch one at the deposit and hit it. Otherwise their auto behavior will ignore surface deposits. (so no reduction in "gameplay" offered by the blaster method of mining)

Basically mining limpets move in a straight line to a roid you are facing and close enough to and attach to the rock at the point of impact and begin drilling/clawing into it and throwing off ore for collector limpets to pick up. So where you launch the mining limpets matters. They will continue to mine the roid until it's deplated and then return to your ship until you are either within range of another prospector drone (if any are active) or if none are active, within range of any roid and facing it. Once facing another roid, they will auto-travel one at a time to the roid (you must not overlap them or they will both die) at a predictable interval.

so where you place them matters a lot, since they could theoretically throw ore out on the other side of a rock that is spinning, etc.

The existing modules would still exist, but this would be an option for pilots wishing to consolidate hardpoints at the expense of some internal storage item. and be a bit more strategic than the current modules are while allowing the possibility of some tiny amount of skill factoring into yields.

This even makes better sense when used with prospector limpets to improve yield lore-wise vs the current behavior. Because we can say that the prospector limpet data can be read by the mining limpets to direct their drill method/process to better filter out the non-ore material.

Mining limpets > small seismic charges.

plus, destroying mining limpets can be used as a way to aggro miners (be them npcs or human) without triggering a direct warrant/fine.

Also a small mention for Torvals mining lances: if you don't want engineering effects to apply to mining gear, FD please swap them so they are a mining laser effect applied to a beam laser (rather than being a mining laser that does damage). This module is crippled curently as an offensive weapon.

More effort needed sunshine, I believe.

Only if I can use them offensively against large ships in the fashion of a C4 satchel with a ranged detonator. Convince the devs this is a good idea, and I'll abandon my capitalist trappings to become a hobo that lives outside the FDev office with a rather large slush fund for making signs daily to protest for them.

This is already possible.
You need appropriate cargo and two active drone controllers, collector and either hatchbraker or repair drone controller.
You jettison your explosives cargo, sic your collector drone on it then switch from the collector controller to the repair controller (before it returns) while immediately targetting the other ship. The repurposed drone cradling the explosives will now attach to that target.
When the lifetime ends, kabum.
The downside it that it repairs the other ship a little bit before kabum.

I want small seismic charges so I can sneak up to people in my DBS and plant two of them on a target then fly away and bullseye them with my rails to totally smeg them!!

Why are you ruling out the T-7? Isn't that a legit candidate for serious mining?

I only singled out the dolphin because that's what the proponents of the suggestion were advertising. Presumably due to the capabilities and look of the ship while not being geared toward a role they preferred (capabilities that only exist because of it's focused role and limited use elsewhere).

I do not think making roid cracking something class1 hardpoints should be capable of. It has nothing to do with the particular ship.

i think keeping that in size 2 has more of a strategic value in the game than adding it to class 1, allowing more role distinction between ships (which is objectively a better scenario than reducing the difference between ships). If anything, it should probably be restricted to class 3 hardpoints. Cracking roids should be much more limited than it currently is even, and the ammo should be significantly expensive. Like a single charge should be 250,000 credits.

I think size 1 hardpoints can be better utilized in mining though (and hardpoints in general) by introducing mining limpets across all sizes of limpet controllers. allowing size 1 hardpoints to remain as defensive weapons for miner ships that can only leverage size 1 hardpoints.
So such small hardpointed ships can have a significant improvement to mining without altering the balance of ships based on hardpoint size.
Mining limpets increase ship differentiation or leave it unchanged at worse, while making their efficiency more tied to miner skill than the current methods it overlaps and it gives smaller ships or ships with fewer hardpoints, a better chance at defending themselves.

Yeah!
Or just fewer charges? Like missile launchers.

I would love to blow up a rock or two in a sidey. No collectors, manually scooping just because you can :)

I'd prefer to have to use more charges to pop a rock if we are using a smaller 'weapon' etc rather than lower ammo cap. IMO it would be a better 'balancing' feature.

I working in blasting IRL and often have to use smaller charges for many reasons so you will use more of them... so it just fits to me :D

Small Seismic Charges require more to be placed within the same time limit

Not-so-agile T7s - "Oh, nm."
Irrelevant.

I may be not able to fly around that pesky rock, to lets put a lot of them sscs and a ton of fuel into one of the craters.
What could possibly go wrong?

The ring out of alignment? Neighbouring planets complain about comet strikes? So what? I have my SSCs and I plan to use them. Shouldn't have sold them to me otherwise.

Main thing is that the 'teroid flies apart. The minerals are a bonus.
