How common are job where you have to scan data terminals?

First and most important: THANK YOU everyone who have provided feedback on any of my annoying newbie questions!! I know I have a lot of them :( Thank you for your patience!
So, as I mentioned in another post, I took an assassination job that took me through various steps, until I needed to scan a data terminal on a planetary base. Nothing about the original job description indicated I might have to. And while I've gotten some GREAT advice on how to do it, I'mma gonna haveta back pocket that topic for now as I'm still getting used to the game and the techniques for scanning data terminals is pretty advanced and high risk to me.
So my question: How common are jobs where you find out some point in that you have to scan a terminal?
I really hate the idea of putting in so much time into a job before coming up to that step and having to abandon the job :(
Are there certain jobs where that step is more common than in others? Some way I can pre-filter jobs that might end up having me do that?
TIA!!

99% of time it says in the missions details beforehand.

FYI you can scan the data points from your ship in most cases. Can be tricky if you don't know what to look for though so maybe look to see if there's a yt vid to show you first.

Heh, guess I got lucky my first time and got a 1% that didn't :) Because I'm still new, I re-read each job several times to make sure I'm fully groking it :)
OK, well, that's good to know between the ~99% that say and the tip about "surface icon" I should be able to avoid most in the future (until I get comfortable and have a lot more banked Cr for rebuys!)

Yeah, I've another post thread where people have been giving great tips on how to!! But I'm still just getting comfortable with the game -- even thinking about trying to zip in to 100M and find a particular type of building and maybe or maybe not destroying generators and "parking" on a dime near a terminal and flying out before I'm shot down again -- is making my head spin -- So I'll just save those til I'm better ^^

When you do try take a stock sidewinder, that way you can take the credit hit if you mess up.

If you read mission descriptions, they will always tell you this needs to be done. The only ones I've done that really do require an SRV are the ones where you have to "search" for the target outpost. The data point won't extend and become accessible until an SRV pulls up to it. Those ones are much easier than the other places in terms of defenses, having 1-2 defenses that are easily destroyed and a couple skimmers. Assassination missions will sometimes require you to scan a planetside data point, but these never require SRV. Though I'd recommend feeling comfy in a HighRes at a minimum before taking Assassination missions. I only ever bother destroying defenses first when I must use the SRV. The rest it is easy to get in scan and boost away before I get in danger. You'll get there.

It's easier than it seems at first. Since they take a while before opening up on ya, approach the settlement at combat speed (50%). Once you get under 2km, start scrolling targets until you get the data terminal so you can locate it. If you can easily see where it is, fly to it and begin slowing down at 1km. Once you've scanned it, all you need to do is point up at 90° and boost to max speed with pips 4/2/0 and chaffs deployed. You can go into SC at ~2.5-3km, which won't take long to hit. This window of time is where all the shooting at you will be done, but with you boosting away to SC with chaff, it's unlikely you will be shot down. The key is to not rush the approach to the terminal. If it takes too much time for you to locate/approach the terminal, fly away and wait for the perimeter breach to reset, then do it again. If security aggros on you too early, escape to SC and come back, they won't even remember you. It'd be good practice for ya too. Do it in a Sidewinder with A rated shields/chaff, and some HRP. You'll be fine. ;)

You can absolutely complete those from a ship. You just need to use a ship with the cockpit up front, because you need to get very close to the data point to be able to target it.

I've tried in my Chieftain and DBS with my ship scraping it's nose paint off on the retracted terminal. Never worked. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

As Trolly said above - there are two types of assassination missions in the list.

Lower down the list, you'll see the starburst icon described on the right hand side, before the target system. Those are ones to scan a surface jobby to get the locus. If there is no symbol, it'll be good. It should also say in the description, but as above there is the rare occasion that this is crap!

The assassination missions at the top of the list are space ones, but always have a good look so you don't get stuffed by it.
