ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Odyssey | The Road to Odyssey - Mission Playthrough

The players were only hostile once the power went out at the end, they werent hostile when they entered the base (they got planning permission to land etc). Did you watch the livestream? The AI will need to communicate a problem before there is a group aggressive response, so you can even try to make sure that doesnt happen, but with the power offline the NPCs did converge as a group. Dont see the problem.
Yeah, I get that, but the AI still looked dumb and very easy, suggesting that they'll only really be a problem in large numbers. Which, for me, is not exciting gameplay. Hopefully, I'll be proved wrong when I get to play some Odyssey, but as I said before I remain relatively unenthused by the footage.

What exactly concerning about the AI? Obviously we only saw footage of them successfully completing the mission, did you watch the livestream even? They didnt say this was their first attempt at such a mission.
As a few people have mentioned, it's really the stormtrooper tactics of poor aim and standing out in the open that worries me. I saw maybe 3 NPCs try to take cover?

Hardcore fan? Seems you are looking for problems where they dont exist
What sort of life would you expect in a small munitions dump?
They weren't on hostile terms with the faction, they landed on the landing pad why would the drones do anything but observe?

The quality of what was in this vid inside, Znort is the classical 'former-fanboy-turned-bitter-hater' that for some reason is a bit of thing with sci-fi games. With most types of games people either like it or dont, and those who dont move on to things they do like. Games like ED, SC, NMS and X-series each have their share of 'negative groupies' who hang around for literal years craptalking the developments.

Its quite interesting, but in any case not really worth getting annoyed about. If you like sci-fi spaceship games you'll just have to accept these individuals are part of the package. :)

As for the vid itself: the animations did look rather clunky, and the AI looked not particularly challenging. Part of the issue seemed to be they were roleplaying 'infiltatring' a seemingly friendly settlement they could just as well have walked into. Its like me 'infiltrating' the local supermarket and complaining the clerks are 'poor AI' because they ignore me. Keep in mind that the spaceship part of ED usually looks fairly iffy as well when devs play it as, no offense to them, they seem to be on the level of some 70-year old granny who never played a computer game before. :p

As always: we'll see how it is when we get out hands on it. And I can already give you five names of people who will say it is the worst thing ever, and five people who will tell you it is the best thing ever. :ROFLMAO: What I want to know is to what extend there even is a 'cover' system in place, and if the AI uses it...

It looks ok actually. The npc AI and general movement seemed a bit poor, but I'm sure it will only improve over time with patches.

I'm looking forward to release on console in the autumn, which is when all the pc players will have pointed out any bugs, etc...

Well done devs 👍👍

This and the fact that the main combatant player just repeatedly stripped shields, rather slowly, with a laser rifle and did nothing else... also while standing still. I'm looking forward to when engineering lets us flatten shield resistances so this laser weapon becomes entirely, instead of mostly, useless.

Let the science scanning begin!

hahaha you know this tickles me no end
i'm gonna be chuckling away to myself all night now hahaha

I thought the stellarator was a nice touch.

Planet detail looks much improved...even better than the original Horizons incarnation.

Short scripted mission, played by the devs, against rather dense AI...about what I was expecting for a first look at the PvE stuff. Not really disappointed though, this is the sort of thing that is only really going to be good when other players are the OPFOR.

I'm still cautiously optimistic.

Another worry I have for Odyssey is that all these cool ground mission types will end up feeling just as lonely as the current missions do, because space is really pretty big and mostly empty (that's why it's called space).

I have this vision of release day on the forums - a bunch of complaints saying "hey these missions are cool but it sure would be nice to see one other player"

I imagine settlements in Shinrarta will be all out warzones.

I for one am pumped for the ghost damage, rubberbanding and damage stacking that will result.

How they handle matchmaking is certainly something that could make or break the experience. Latency and load constraints are quite loose in the current game; I do hope they tighten them up a bit.

that works fine for one of the greatest saga of all time, why shouldn't works for Elite.

This is awesome. The only thing I noticed is that the gunplay lacks the "punch", it feels a little weightless, as least in the video. Also, I hope character animations will become smoother and more natural in the finished version. All in all, I love what I see and am really envious of PC CMDRs getting it this year!
