If it's 2021...

Do we have key binds for turning off groups of modules yet? and why do we not have it?
It will make the game so much more enjoyable, managing power plants, silent running, smuggling.
You name it!

We have 5 levels of power priorities for managing power plants, a key binding for silent running & smuggling doesn't require anything more sophisticated than docking like a boss ;)

It would do no harm to have group options over & above the existing power priorities but I've never felt the need for more than what we have. What did you have in mind? Disabling inactive weapons?

for smuggling it would be very helpful to disable a pre set of modules with 1 button instead of having to manually disable a bunch every time i get to a station then 1 more time when I leave.
It's just a very nice quality of life improvement to have. I don't think it'd be particularly difficult to implement neither. Just disable/enable priority level say between 3-4 with 1 button.
In addition, if i want to play hide and seek with other players when they try to jump me, be able to turn off my modules quickly would let me silent run for a much longer time.
also, how would power priorities be a replacement for this method? I understand when your ship doesn't have enough power to support all the modules, it will disable lower priorities first, but if u need to use the lower ones, say scanners or limpets, u have to, again manually disable some then enable some. I'll have to go through that process twice, every time I get a kill to loot the goodies.
Unless there's something about the power priorities that I didn't know about?

What modules would you want to disable for smuggling? Just request docking & don't hang about, the rozzers won't have time to scan you even in a T-9 :)

I agree it wouldn't be all that difficult, and there's no downside to it either, but the upside is minimal too & your OP implies it's amazing something like this still hasn't been implemented :)

I don't know whether access is restricted to new users on the forum but perhaps a more detailed proposal in the suggestions section might get FDev's attention, or maybe find an existing thread to add your support to :)

I've never had a problem smuggling using only silent running and a heatsink. You're trying too hard to do something easy
it's more than just smuggling though. I've described several ways this could come in handy.
there are a lot more that I didn't mention or even thought about.
It's just a quality of life change, kind of like the target indicators for projectile weapons.
The game will still run without it, but it's just very nice to have.
It doesn't have to be a core mechanic to but for applications this feature is good for,
it's immensely helpful.

I first googled this and found a lot of threads and post about it, but they were mostly when they game first came out, 2015-16 and even 17.
I guess people just gave up after a while since they didn't get any response from the devs

Fair enough. Idk if this fits the topic but I would like silent running cooled ships to not be detectable as trespassing when they are cold and silent like that. To me it almost defeats the purpose of cold silent running when I still get trespassing fines at the military installation in lft 926 for example.

What tf are they hiding????

I'm a proponent for expanded control options, but you have to accept that FD isn't going to implement control options that will be too tedious/unwieldy for consoles. This will never happen. It would if it were up to me, but it ain't.

I didn't know that was a thing, but that would be an awesome change too. silent running past their perimeter

I think console players just have to deal with it lol. you'll never have as many buttons as PC players.
This however, would just be one button.

It's one button from your perspective. From a dev's perspective, it's also the UI necessary to dictate these power groupings and where to tuck this extra UI menu, inclusion into tutorials or not, etc.

Also, have you tried playing ED with a console controller? Every button is a button to a menu of buttons. Squeezing another in really is an issue. This is why we only have 2 fire groups and they had to introduce 'HUD mode' just to introduce FSS, it was just cover for having another set of controls that you switch to because console controllers are so limited. You're free to disregard the inhumane conditions that console peasants toil under but, like it or not, ED is a multi-platform game which means we have to live partially in the dark ages with them. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

oof, sounds like console players have it tough, but game play wise I don't think it would require too many trouble.
you're not setting on the power groupings on the fly, that's done ahead of time.
It should be the same key that let's u toggle/trigger silent running, though when selecting the toggle groups a new menu will need to be added.
I imagine that'd be similar to bringing up a large list of menus that lets you select a smaller menu from that list. Kind of like when we press escape
and a large menu pops up. It'll just be another menu in there.

This is inherently incorrect. Console has the ability to use kb&m for most games and ED simply does not allow console to use kb& m. If you want to point t fingers point them in the right direction.

Furthermore, terms like "console peasants" are offensive hate speech and should not be used in polite company. I take great offense being referred to as a peasant. Please do not.

All game design done for consoles is done with the sound assumption the game will be played with the console's official controller. To do otherwise would be simply stupid.

Aside from my 'console peasant' joke clearly being a joke, peasants lived better quality lives than most people in civilized countries do now. You're free to take offense at being equated with simple hard working people of the land if it suits you. What's ironic though, is that the core of the 'console peasant' joke is the notion they're beneath pc gamers, which is the attitude peasants received from the social classes above them who looked down on them for being simple workers. You being offended at being equated with them mirrors the attitude of the then-ruling social classes who would also have been offended by being called a peasant. So in the context of the 'console peasant' joke, you're of the PC master race. ;)

I understand you were using it jokingly but others don't and regardless of the work ethic of peasants throughout history, the phrase IS used derogatorily.

A white guy may not mean offense using the 'N' word, perhaps trying to emulate rappers or what not, but it's still offensive to some and considered as such to most. It's an insult clear and simple.

Well, I guess you'll be offended then. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
