Newcomer / Intro How to scan this nav beacon please?

So 2 hours later of me going to encrypted data sources, I have not found the one the mission wants. And while playing solo, I got this

EO7RWqoXUAUTVwW

I'm giving up the mission, this being my first mission should emphasize how bad this is. This is infuriatingly bad design. Especially since I was doing it to get money for a mining laser, as the game doesn't start you with enough money to get one and a refinery.

2. Sensor display icons are explained in the manual.

A small legend could easily be put in the panel, especially when you zoom in on it. I should not have to hunt down a manual. Or a forum for that matter.

Newcomers have been given a supercruise assist module

Doesn't apply to the encrypted data sources however

As for JetsonRing, none of that applies. I was in front of it. I had targeted it. It refused to scan until I rebooted the game. It was a bug.

Connection errors are an unfortunate side effect of all the game no matter what mode you are playing in being on-line Solo just means all other players are unavailable to you but we are all playing and affecting the single galaxy, depending on your location and other infrastructure related factors as well as I believe platform connection issues are more or less of a problem.

Actual mission locations usually show in a different (blue) colour in the Nav panel and on your main screen I believe, but as an infrequent user of missions I could be wrong.

I am sure that the Super Cruise Assist module will work on any correctly targeted destination in space as long as you keep it in front of you and have set the throttle properly, it is only an assistant however not an autopilot so you do have to stay at your controls and dodge around any obstructions such as planets in the way, personally I find it somewhat quicker to fly towards the navigation target at full throttle until I get to around 15-7 seconds away then I set my throttle to 75% (the middle of the blue band) which should bring me in nicely. The SCA cannot take you to anything on a planets surface.

Mission targets are blue - and appear after either a Nav Beacon scan or FSS detection (not all appear in the FSS). Dropping into random USS will never work.

And as for 'saving up for a mining laser' - be aware they changed mining payouts so it's no longer as straight forward as the guides told you. Seems you are trying to rush through this ... which doesn't tend to end well 🤷‍♀️

Yes is does - SCA works fine for USS.

Speaking from experience. When I started out, given the presence of negative press about bugs, I used to blame frustrations on bugs. They generally weren't. For example at a small outpost, flight control wouldn't give me docking permission. I eventually checked forums. People talked about the 'bug' and recommended relogging. It worked. But actually what was going on was that all the pads were occupied. I had to wait.
Which is why you should always go to the hangar when docking in open.

Even in the hangar blocks the pad.

I'm staring right at the beacon. I'm mere meters away from it, sensors powered, in normal space, it's in the center of my screen and it won't scan.

I had exactly the same for ages.
Eventually left area and returned , aligned ship to be in front of beacon.
suddenly it scanned!
now have problems with the fighter drone which keeps flying away, when I follow I leave the area and get reset.

God forbid that someone should have to look at a manual ...
I know this thread is old but made me lol. The Op so angry about his own mistakes and how such a complicated and in depth game isn‘t 100% intuitive.
I like the switch in focus to abuse the Xbox and Nintendo too. That would be the Xbox controller that is preferred by anyone with hands bigger than a 12 yr old and which is used for UAV by the military. Yeah that would flawed!!

Sometimes it is possible to be to close I reckon about 50 to 100 m ok?

I’m 2 years in playing only occasionally as family, pets, sick relatives and work will allow, but I love it. I am lucky enough to play in VR on Rift S with a HOTAS in a Poang IKEA chair, so it is a very relaxing immersive space away from a very hectic RL. Tbh I don’t really worry about money I just do what takes my fancy jumping between rep building, combat zones, missions and trading. If I see something interesting on the system scan then I go and have a look.

I find the "bad design" or "bugs" to be really minor issue, almost non-existent. This game has a very steep learning curve, that is for sure true, but taking into account how complex it is, you cannot expect "Tetris like" simplicity...

You either have the determination and grit and eventually you start appreciating how the game works, or you want fast results and then I can tell you: this game is not for you

Also, I think you may want to reconsider your attitude.

My hats off to all commanders who are trying their best to help you out, despite your constant "bad design" complaints...
