Man I really wish Palin was 5k LY TOTAL in jumps, not 5k from wherever I started years ago

So stupidly annoying, I enjoyed my sojourn out into guardian space for the fighters but I had a REASON to go out there, meanwhile if I want my g5 thrusters I just HAVE to jump 10k damn lightyears for him, such a stupid unlock requirement. Whoever thought that up is obviously a sadist, no way to hide that obvious fact.

You want Palin to relocate his base so you have to travel half the distance from where you are?

That makes sense pal.

You don't have to jump 10K lyrs...
But it will cost credits instead...

If you had done research youll know this... it does only require 5001 Lyrs...
Buy DBX ship and A grade the FSD or buy the grade 5 FSD from human tech broker...
Jump 5001 Lyrs
Select Self destruct...
Select buy DBX from rebuy screen... remove the FSD.
Sell DBX....

Only 5001 Lyr needed...

Yes, yes, just jump 5k lightyears and kill yourself, such grand gameplay, regardless of how you try to defend it, it really is a stupid requirement. 5k in lifetime jumps sounds like a lot but would be gained from actual gameplay from ANYONE, much better than the garbage that he is now.

Ooh you mean just like Todd "The Blaster" McQuinn requiring 100,000 in bounty vouchers? Yeah they should make that 3,000, then I might have a chance of unlocking him! Or Selene Jean requiring 500 tons of painite, really? What a pain in the rear, I hate mining, can you please make 50 tons? I just might be able to stand that much mining! And etc!

It's 25 neutron jumps with a 50LY ship.
Could be worse.

use spansh.co.uk if you don't want to go out to the second star on the right, straight on till morning...

How can you not have jumped 5k already? Do you even play? :ROFLMAO:
Well, like he said in the title, from the starting point. You can jump a million LY and still get thoroughly ignore by Palin.

@ OP, like said, jump on a carrier and unlock the engineers in Colonia. Suicide back to the bubble and you're hitting 5 birds with one stone.
There is a carrier discord specially for these trips.

Yep there are so many trips via FC to do this you start running out of the commodities to unlock items at those local stations, Theses items are carried on the FC instead from the bubble...

I travelled 6,700ly yesterday in a 54ly ship, FSSing every system. A lot of that was Neutron jumps but I was in a place & needed to get to another place to meet a friend. I had a reason to do it.

You have a reason to do it, and a reason to not do it (you have never done it before). That, it seems to me, is currently a step too far for you, it makes you frustrated at the thought of it, so imo leave it for now, and try a shorter trip to a nearby nebula or something. Build up to it, keep your targets feeling achievable based on your current experience and each time, aim to better your previous best.

Stay in the stretch zone. 5000ly really isn't that far, and won't really take all that long and once done you won't have to do it again if you don't want to, but you will know what it took to do it & maybe will have pushed your character outside your comfort zone & learned a little about what else the game has to offer. I don't see that as a bad thing :)

Or you can cheese it & park on somebody's carrier while they take you, feeling superior because you beat the system without learning a damned thing ;)

G5 drives are great, I have G5 Dirty Drag drives on nearly every ship, even exploration builds. How you choose to play is up to you.

It is understandable, if one is not particularly interested in exploration, that achieving 5 KLy from start is a challenge... I'd go with the suggestion of grabbing a FC trip out to and returning from Colonia, and if the 4 Common Knowledge bubble engineers are unlocked to L3/4 and the Colonia engineer invites received, could also get 4 more useful blueprints pinned (as well as any other higher-level engineering unable to be done in the bubble without the needed unlocks, of course).

I do side with the arguments about other unlocks that require specific achievements - it took me over 2 years to unlock Lori Jameson...

ETA: I also concur with @Riverside in the comment that the journey isn't that terrible, particularly is using a long-jumping ship, it doesn't take very long...
(I also unlocked Palin before I even know he existed, but was very keen on flying my shiny new spaceship and visiting new places once I'd made enough credits to build my fist DBX)
