If a Cutter has that much Shields, it either has barely or even negative resistance to Thermal, or no heatsink. If he uses a SCB and has no Thermal Vent weapon, he is roasting himself heavily. Even if he has a thermal Vent weapon, he has to hit with it 99,5% of all Cutters use Gimbals for a Reason, and those are not reliable on a range beyond about 3 kilometers, in my experience even less, because of their build in wobblyness.

'Back in the day' I used to 'beat' Cutters by flying IEagles, sitting on their 6 o'clock, and letting the system security go to work (Really wish I used to record back then!)
These days, I'll generally just bring Flechette's with lockdown missiles, or a big wing full of phasing Pulses & PA's.
But I still think that Big 3 PvP is kinda boring - if they have lots of armor, it just ends in attrition.

One thing I wonder is why the Corvette is never pig-piled on for the same reason. A "good" shield tank Cutter will have around 8000mj of shields, SCBs, and a HSL without sacrificing too much thermal (30% + with just one heat resistant booster). A Corvette built in a similar manner will have 6500-7000mj of shields. Not a huge difference, and the Vette's offensive capabilities and maneuverability make it more menacing on paper. Although I agree that the shield meta is a little busted atm, and has been for quite a while, I think there's a little bit of favoritism going on here from the combat crowd, or possibly the Fed crowd. The Cutter is the sacrificial lamb, but most people don't seem to realize the Corvette will also get nerfed if we get a balance pass that kicks the shield meta in the pants.
It's not that I'm against nerfing shields. Imo heavy duty booster stacking is the main issue and it needs adjusted. I'm just saying, get ready for the "Corvette is useless now" threads if/when it happens.

The Corvette doesnt get as much of a storm because its so slow that everybody can just outrun it and reboot shields if needed while the Vette has to try and catch up panting so much it gets a free red paintjob. The Cutter is just Hated because of the simple fact that it HAS the biggest shields in the Game and no one likes to 1on1 a 8k Shield with resistances (Except that one person that claims that he does in hopes to start an argument).
When you see a Cutter interdict you, you just roll eyes and sigh. I also notice in communitygoalsystems that i get interdicted MUCH more on my Vette than on the Cutter. Usually only Wings interdict me on a cutter.
Because bringing a Corvette to a random PvP is a joke that will end in two possible outcomes. They are going to get killed... or (if they are well engineered).. they will end up begging you to STOP and let them kill you. When you can literally fly backwards faster on zero pips than the Corvette can boost at you.. then the fight is already over.
The Cutter on the other hand is the ultimate defense machine. Biggest shield tank in the game that can also boost away in reverski mode faster than a lot of middle/small ships... and at the same time, almost nothing can mass lock it. So they can escape any time they want (which they will if you somehow manage to bring their shields down)..
On average I've killed a lot more Corvettes than Cutters .. and the only time I managed a Cutter was when they were not engineered properly, stuck in a Haz Res, unable to supercruise away.
+1 on that....i hate when people try to balance everything, driving F1 car vs street car.....and yelling "WE NEED BALANCE THIS"
The Corvette is to slow for organic PvP and for some reason has an inbuilt network connection disable switch.
I did take out prismatics on some corvettes and cutters during the CG in a silent running DBS with reverb torps. Some commanders are wise to the tactic and others not so. If you find a competent-ranked, or so, big ship pilot then you're probably gonna get the best of them.

Well I like my shield tank Cutter, gankers likely don't like. Not that I try to fight it out, but well I can take whatever they try to deal and high wake.
They don't like it since they can't destroy, so they blame Fdev and look for the reason to rationalize for this.

Again, this stuff only works on a Cutter if the Cutter pilot allows it. On a Corvette completely different story due to the speed issue already mentioned and I've been at the receiving end in mine. But unless there's another Cutter present you just wake out.

This post in a nutshellOk, so after thinking about it for a while, as the main problem is actually the Cutter's speed compared to the Corvette's as well as it's ability to run due to no masslock, isn't there the argument that if someone breaks engagement they basically cede victory? Keep in mind I haven't done a lot of pvp yet, just a little bit.
It seems to me if I'm in a Cutter and I run away, my opponent can call victory. If I'm in a Vette and they go off to reboot or synth ammo, they broke engagement. I can call victory and simply wake out. It might not be that way in random wing fights or honorable pvp where the combatants make a rule like "we fight to 20% hull/death", but in a fight where someone interdicts you or shoots at you in a CZ without warning I'm certainly not going to wait for a CMDR to reboot or load premos.
Again, I agree that shield boosters could do with a nerf but if you force a Cutter to wake, you've won. If you force someone to go off and reboot/repair/synth, you've won. I'm wondering what more experienced PvPers think of this assessment.

You'll find that gankers benefit from the issue more than "noobs" (inverted commas because not sure if someone who flies an A-rated end game ship fully engineered with PP shields can still be considered one) so not sure who has the last laugh here.
Gankers don't care about 'declaring victory'. They want to see you go boom
. The whole 'nerf shields' is because they can't kill people who don't want to do PvP. If you want to do pre-arranged PvP there is nothing stopping you from putting some rules around it.Generally I am fine with the shield tanks. The whole concept of this game is that you should be able to avoid PvP if you want.. which the Cutter allows without even needing to high-wake or log out to menu. Also it is the definition of an 'end game ship' requiring all kinds of grind (materials, rank, credits etc).. so it shouldn't be easy to kill it with a cheap middle size ship.
