Mining Question(s)

Is it considered "working as intended" to go to any kind of Hotspot (single, triple, etc.), for any resource really, and fly around for an hour+ not finding ONE asteroid containing that resource, then going to another Hotspot naming another resource, and finding almost none of that resource, but finding many asteroids with resource named in the previous hotspot? This has been an issue for me since the LTD nerf. Maybe i'm just missing something, or unaware of something pertaining to mining, but it seems every "hotspot" I go to for a specific resource, has almost NONE of that resource it is named for, and instead I need to go to hotspots for something else, to have any chance of finding the resource that is allegedly ion the "hotspot." Let me know if i'm doing something incorrectly, and if this is "working as intended." Am I doing it wrong?
Edited: Caps issues, Grammar, etc...

I find it hit and miss. The other day I was in a platinum hotspot, I found loads in there, as well as other goodies, I didn’t have to move more than 150m. I popped in another ring in the same system, not a sniff.

What kind of mining? In deep-core mining it is common to not find anything if the CMDR cannot visually distinguish motherlodes.
Using the PWS (scanner)? In deep-core mining, it is more effective to ping the hotspot with the PWS as you go looking for prospective asteroids to mine.
Using Prospector limpets? In surface mining the CMDR will often go through a lot of Prospector limpets to find appropriate asteroids to mine.
Can't help with sub-surface mining, never done it. o7

To me, there is no logic in having a "hotspot," which should mean higher than average, and finding nothing of that resource, then finding another "hotspot" for another resource, and finding nothing of THAT resource, but finding the resource form that previous hotspot in abundance. Maybe it's just me...but this does NOT make any sense. If it's a "hotspot," then it should be at the higher than average abundance, not literally non-existent as I keep finding. I've been to 4 different Platinum hotspots so far, and flwon around for HOURS, prospecting, and have found literally ZERO asteroids containing Platinum while IN those hotspots. Then I jumped to a Painite hotspot, and found ZERO Painite, but found 5 asteroids in the first 10 minutes there, with low to medium content, of 30 - 45% Platinum. The overwhelming consistency of Uraninite in EVERY Platinum Hotspot is the only reliable factor in dropping into those hotspots, for me. To me, no matter HOW you analyze this.,..it makes no sense, & is counter logic to have something named as "hotspot," consisting of nothing of THAT resource, yet finding a resource in high quantity that is named in another hotspot, which ALSO has none of its' named resource. You can call me an idiot...but this HAS to be a "bug." In any case, I was just curious if there was some "magic" or "God of Hotspots" I had neglected to utilize, or pray to, to ACTUALLY ever FIND the named resource in a hotspot. It just seems mining is another broken feature, to me, though I could be wrong. In any case, I think Sunyavadin is correct when he stated - "borking as intended." lol...

Ya, that's not my experience. I literally NEVER find what is specifically named in the alleged "hotspot." This has been a constant issue for me since the LTD thing. I WISH it was "hit or miss" for me.

im on my way from the heart nebula, been mining all pristine its as someone elsle said hit or miss ,its all pristine out here, gold and silver isnt under every rock,or anything else lol.

I'm not saying everything is "under every rock." I'm saying in a "Platinum Hotspot," flying around for hours, finding NOT ONE asteroid with the named resource in it...is not logical, and makes me think there is some sort of issue somewhere, or "bug" if you want to call it that. Further, i'm saying, that then jumping to a hotspot named for another resource, and finding the previous hotspot's named resource, in quite a few asteroids, in decent content levels, also seems like there is something "amiss" somewhere. I think you're not understanding what i'm saying.

What were you trying to mine?
In what ring type?
Was it laser mining or core mining?
1. Platinum, and/or Painite.
2. This has been an ongoing issue for me, and as such it there are many variables of when, and where, but specifically tonight it was Metallic.
3. Laser.
This sin't a new issue for me, or many others so i've read, but it is one that is consistent. Platinum Hotspot. Drop in. Search for hours. No Asteroids containing Platinum (None). Jump to new Hotspot, same issue. Jump to hotspot for another resource, let's say Painite for instance, find a decent amount of Platinum, but no Painite. Jump to Platinum hotspot again, and find no Platinum but find some painite...sometimes.
I've done a decent amount of mining, for Painite, etc., over the years, and this has been a recent issue since the "Great LTD Market Crash." I realize there's always a chance i'm just completely not mining correctly...but I don't think in this instance what i'm saying is incorrect. I like mining, believe it or not, I find it a relaxing way to pas the time while I watch crap in the background (lol), and when I don't feel like Combat-PewPew, or Whining Passengers ("Hey, can you stop here and grab some crap for me on the way?") But the lack of finding even one asteroid with anything named for the hotspot, just doesn't seem right. Again, though, maybe it's just me. I'll keep plugging away at it until it annoys me to the point I just stop bothering with it all together, and do something else. I was just curious if others have any issues like this.

I AM willing to stop mining-whining, in exchange for my space legs..."make it so" FD. I guess i'll just go passenger transport or blow some s#$t up for a bit. "If all else fails...shoot s$%t & blow s$%t up." Enjoy your evenings, all.

The great ltd market crash affected the ice rings - it did not affect the rest of the rings.
Not contesting what you're saying, but never had any trouble finding platinum lately. As in filling 500t in way less than an hour
Also had great success with bromellite - and that was happening in an ice ring, granted it was a triple ovelap.

Sure been some RNG where i did not find any platinum rocks while using 8-10 prospectors, but then next 2 were 55% platinum.
But not finding any platinum for hours? nope.

Like I said, I WISH your experience was mine. I mined ALL evening yesterday. I went to the "hotspots," I NEVER, not once, found an asteroid with Platinum in it, in the hostspots for "platinum," and in the Painite hotspots I found no painite, but found a little Plat. I'm not saying what is occurring is purposeful, nor was it intentional, specifically spaeking of your statement "...it did not affect the rest of the rings." I'm only saying it is occurring, i'm not the only one who has noticed and mentioned it since the ltd fix, & it IS occurring to me consistently. Other than that, maybe not everyone is having this occurrence, but I am. All evening...not 1 asteroid with Platinum in it, in the hotspots. I just wanted it known I see this consistently, & I wondered if ANYONE else still has the issue, or has ever noticed it being an issue. In any case, i'll leave it as is, since I obviously CANNOT do a thing to fix it at this point, to my knowledge.

I too have found this to be the case - and being a new player honestly wondered if I was doing something wrong.

I guess sometimes things just don't go as intended - how real life can a game get lol :p

As long as I land in Metallic rings with lasers mining I find Laser mining items for the hot spot. I never find cores as I dont run PWA when laser mining... cores only slow the mining down..
I never enter metal rich rings as there only good items are core mining only items the rest is junk, so when laser mining I never go in them...
I never go in Ice rings any more as there garbage item prices now... so never a requirement to core mine or laser mine as there junk items...
Likewise, I go into rocky rings for core items as they are not junk prices unlike Ice or metal rich ring and i Find the Core items of the hot spot..

As state july 2020 Ice ring Nuke Reduced content generation in all Ice rings in side and out side of hotspots of all big price items, Then the November price rebalance nuked the prices...
