Advice Please!

Hi I'm new to planet Zoo and I love it. I've got all the DLCs but my PC is struggling causing the game lag and sometimes crash when my zoo gets too big. How can I fix this? What is the best PC specs to have? I've match the min requirements but I wanna invest and future proof my pc for upcoming DLCs.
Any help would be great.

The Recommended Spec on games is also the Minimum Spec if you're looking for quality. The actual Minimum Spec which gets detailed is really just a nice way to let more people have access to the game.

I cannot imagine that any developer is starting with low poly low settings then asking themselves OK how do we make this look better. Surely it's more a case of making the game they actually want with full bells and whistles and then asking OK how can we let more people have access to this.

When it comes to buying a PC and future proofing yourself. It's kind of impossible but the best thing you can do is spend every single penny you have and more to make the spec as worthy as possible for as long as possible. In the end you're going to get what you can afford and future proofing is a mostly a bit of a myth.

I bought an i5 on release day when they were too expensive but it has served me well for over ten years. Just now about to buy a new computer that I cannot really afford but once the next ten years is done it hopefully will have worked out quite cheap.

If you can upgrade to 16gb ram you may have a much easier time but I do not think there is a fix that will get you into higher graphics modes unless you do decide to upgrade the entire thing.

  • Intel® Core™ i5-8400 Processor
  • RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB
  • (3D Mark) Time Spy score: 2150

Should be good enough honestly.
Not sure how big your zoo gets, but your processor is newer compared to me .
The only difference is I have 4GB 1050 ti, but that shouldn't make the difference.

My zoo's don't take up the entire map, but it's large enough for many animals and habitats.

Most of the time it's the amount of animals and guests that is holding the game down.
For that same reason I for instance don't have breeding area's whith many of the same animal. Usually I try to keep number of animals per specie low.
(I heard people keep 100 flamingo's in a single zoo, which really hurts performance).

It is a similar spec to my i5. Mine is slightly higher. I can operate perfectly well in Ultra Graphics as long as it's not a big construction (although the Ultra effects are nowhere near as good as they might be with an RTX video card). Eg if I am just making a blueprint for a building or a single habitat etc then Ultra mode is fine. In franchise mode and extended builds I have to go into Medium Graphics. I do seem to be able to get waaaaaaay more built in Planet Zoo than I can in Planet Coaster............ Roll on the new PC.

Also the actual minimal specs are mainly useable for clean or "new" computers.
A lot of people forget their other installed software on their pc, which can also put a lot of strain on the perfomance of those minimal specs.

Future proof your pc?
All depends on how handy you are with installing hardware/software yourself and are willing to pay to keep your PC up to date.

Oh yes thanks. I have a lot of flamingo to be fair. I'm gonna try to get rid of them to see that works. Thanks

One thing I've found helpful is going into the task manager and bumping up the game priority to above average or high (wouldn't recommend realitime). Try to minimize what you have running in the background as well. I tend to have a lot of browser windows open in the background when I game so I can multitask. That can impact performance at times.
