Proposal Discussion Why auto docking is needed

Think for a moment, after watching the video of this awesome player docking it got me thinking. Is auto-docking important or not?

What I mean by auto-docking?

I mean you approach a station where you want to dock for trade, maybe repairs, spend some credits, upgrade your ship etc etc. To do things that in one way or another will produce some type of revenue for the station and the person(s) who own the station or the group of investors who own the above mentioned station.

Also think about those who produce parts for ships, or the ones who manufacture trade products or the ones in charge to keep the law and who rely on bounty hunters to catch, eliminate or eradicate any of the threats.

What happens every time you try to dock and you crash?

1- Damage or lost of your ship ($$$$$ involved)
2- Damage to the station (again $$$$ involved in repairs that come out of the pocket of the owner(s) of the station
3- Cleaning the space junk left floating inside the station due to damage
4- Lawsuit filed by the family of the pilot who died or got injured or the family of other pilots that were hurt due to floating or flying debris
5- If another station in the area offered assisted or auto docking where do you think pilots will go to do all the trading, buying, repairing etc etc?

Due to these fact$$$$ mentioned above I think that a new auto-docking system or an assisted-docking system that could be optional or not should be the new step into the proper development of new and future space stations.

Until then my attorney's office is at your disposal.

Our main areas of services involved but are not limited to:
-Lawsuits due to negligence of space stations in providing the proper assistance while you were docking or while one of your loved ones (who tragically died or received serious injuries) was injured during docking procedures due to the above mentioned lack of docking assistance.

- We also offer our services to corporations who due to the lack of docking assistance suffered losses when the merchandise they were trading got destroyed due to cataclysmic damage suffered by the ships while trying to dock, due to the above mentioned lack of docking assistance.

For more information feel free to contact us at our offices during business hours.

:eek::D

Man I zip in and out of stations without a lot of thought these days, haha. The docking computer was plain broken for me, and I sure cursed a bit when I was first learning:eek:

Also, in B4 "something about bots and kids today!1!" lol!:D

Also, good post Kambalo.

as has already been said all it takes is a little practice, after a while docking manually gets so easy that a docking computer would get in the way and rather than make things safer would actually increase the danger.

I've maxed the cargo space on my ship by selling my shield generator and have been flying around for four days without getting a scratch. docking, launching and boosting out of the slot is only dangerous if you don't keep an eye on your radar for incoming ships, even then they are fairly easy to avoid.

we have an option to buy a docking computer if we feel the need, there is no point in making it compulsory.

This bit.

It is nice to see that we have players that are worried about the mega corporations losing profit when a rookie screws the pooch on landing approach

Seriously, that has to be the worst excuse I've ever heard for wanting docking assistance :p

I think it might be a good idea for FD to include a docking computer as basic equipment on sidewinders. After one of those scary rides, it would compel people to learn how to dock.

lol whats all this cheese about docking? thats my fav part of the game!! if you suck at docking, practice!! don't change the game because of it!

I am just offering my services after watching the above mentioned video and seeing all the debris floating right there at the entrance of the station of the so no lucky/expertless/noobies pilots who lost their ship due to the lack of practice.

Anyways, feel free to contact me for any consultation :D :D

(on a serious note, has anyone docking bump into any of that floating debris? Did the debris cause any damage to their ships?)

Most of the debris is the result of over zealous System Authority vessels or station defences taking exception to some unfortunate NPCs. I once got stuck in docking pad request time out hell for 10 minutes (before I went away and returned to clear the problem) and saw 2 MPC Haulers murdered by a station for no apparent reason.

Yes! I wholeheartedly agree, free auto docking computers for all! I keep crashing when manual docking so why not get rid of manual docking altogether. That makes it fair for all of us, we can't have those people manually docking quicker than us. While we're at it, we need auto targeting computers too! It's too hard to keep the reticle on the target and then have to click again to actually target it. It's so unbelievable, it's 3500 everything should be automatic by now. Also we need an auto trade computer too! Yeah it should know to find the best deals right? Imagine that! With just a few clicks we can get rid of all the hard boring work and enjoy all the beautiful sights instead of so much tedium. Wait, wait! And then we can macro all the few clicks together and script it in VoiceAttack so that we can just say, "play", then sit back and relax! Yeah! Amirite?!

Oooh such sarcasm :) Good points though.

Have you ever read a Culture novel by Iain M Banks? The ships would even press play for you in those!

Compulsory auto-docking would ruin the game for me. The option for a docking computer is fine - just keep it an option!

Hell, I'd complain (mildly, granted) that docking has become too easy. I used to have to be a bit careful to line up and get docked, now it's just in point towards the pad, pull up at the last second and boom, docked. I think the sensors that cause the ship to be grabbed when it's close to the pad have been made less sensitive. Ok, I can live with that.

Personally I've never had any of the issues the OP mentioned.

[serious mode] dudes this was intended as a humor post to lighten up the environment a little bit [/serious mode]

Still my services are available..... you know anything else, old inheritances, overdue debts, anything? :D

I believe the formula is something like: The potential for argument (A) increases directly proportionally to the increase in posts (P) from the original post (OP)

A=P+OP?

I think I am getting too old to play online games, many years ago people used to have sense of humor and could see what sarcasm/joke and funny meant. Now is like no one knows anymore what :D means at the end of a post or what  means when commenting about a post.

Sheessshhhh was a phrase we used to use too.

Sheeesh yea me too, getting too old for all these new fangled modern games just too hard for me. Think I'll give up ED and go easy mode for now. Gonna load up that old tape and go a few rounds of Manic Miner....
