What is this crashed thing I found with a data point?

So I just discovered my first undiscovered system!! And the 1st planet is landable so of COURSE I landed! :D
And shortly after, I discovered something I'd never seen before! A crashed object! Looks like a probe? It has a data point, but when I try to access it nothing happens.
Is there something I can do with this? What is it??

As others have said, it's a crashed data beacon. One of several differnt types of non-ermanent (random ) surface POI. As others have stated, it'll disappear if you log out/log in.

Trivia: Normal, non-crashed data beacons emit, in Morse code, the name of the star they orbit. Crashed ones emit, in random order, the letters of the word "BROKEN".

If you look through your Transactions tab there should be an intel reward from one of the three superpowers. Turn it over to that power to get the reward. Dying will cause you to lose the data.

This is a Point Of Interest one or many types. Most are guarded by sentries which often have a wanted status and can be taken out for a bounty reward, or a criminal status for killing a clean one. They can also be found by flying 2km above the planet surface and looking for blue circles on the scanner. Fly towards the center and look around. The scanner sensor zoom helps a lot resizing the blue circles.
