Newcomer / Intro Got a spanking new FC . . .

Don't worry, got my Robigo Runner and kitted it out for mining. Have 50MCr already.

Well, you could just use your Robigo Runner for doing Robigo runs.

Presumably you're already allied with the factions at Robigo, so that's something you could do right away with no further time/money investment. Get a few hundred million in the bank before deciding what else to do (such as adding an Armoury to your Carrier for limpet restock if you want to try mining next).

Meh, I have been doing Robigo runs for over a week to buy the carrier.
I got about 500 painite and the current price is 290 kCr. Is that a good price to sell? Or do I sit on it a bit longer?

Never found a 400k buyer, but did offload painite at around 350k.
Now using the FC to get medicines for the CGs.
These are the ships I plan to equip the FC with.
  • long distance scout: DBX
  • bulk trader: Type 9
  • med distance trader: Python
  • laser miner: Python
  • core miner: ??? zero experience with it
  • long distance trader / scout: Krait Phantom
  • CAP: Vulture
  • away missions, planetary landing & mining: ???
  • stealth approach and smuggling: ???
Suggestions?
Am I missing something?
As usual, your advice will be appreciated.

Python will work for core mining.
Stealth I would suggest Phantom or DBX as both can run very cold, for smuggling I favour the high speed approach of if you are out of range before the scan can complete they cannot prove you were doing something wrong so would suggest an Orca with the biggest A rated drive preferably engineered for speed.

Python - Tritium SSD miner, the fastest way too mine the stuff:)

T9's laser miners, out in the black there are no NPC's so it saves time keep running back to carrier and you can park up in the rings safely if you need to stop the game.

Thanks for the tips guys. But now for a very important question.

A-rated or D-rated collector limpets controllers? Or perhaps one A-rated and two D-rated?

Any suggestions on my Python Stakhanov build? The blaster takes care of the occasional surface deposit, but is turned off by default.
I'm mining painite, platinum and osmium at the moment in a painite hotspot. But painite sure is a pain to sell above 300k. Should I switch to a platinum hotspot?

D rated limpets have less than a kilometre range which is very poor but they do last for 10 minutes which is good, A rated have a range of over a kilometre which is good and last for 12 minutes which is better.
I would pick A rated unless you are worried by the mass, which can be engineered down, another consideration is B rated which have no more mass than A and a longer range but only 7 minutes life.

I like all my collectors to have the same performance where possible so I wouldn’t mix them.

A-rate your limpets, fit a Pulse Wave Analyser, get rid of one of your lasers and fit both SSDM and SCL then practice:)

There is more to mining than just getting the best priced material or hunting for the best selling price, sometimes a lower priced commodity can be mined and sold faster and earn more and some can be allowed to accumulate for sale at a later date.

Icy rings can be good earners, Bromellite sells well and is fast to mine, on the side you will get LTD's, Tritium and Methanol Monohydrate Crystals (MMC's). both Brom and MMC's are wanted on mission boards and both can be sold for better than market prices to other carriers or sold from your own carrier.

Cores and SSD's can be well worth mining, I do not often go specifically for them but I regularly scan with the PWA when laser mining and do them as I go.

Since you're not starved for power, A-rated.

And since you've asked: https://s.orbis.zone/djjh

Reddit suggests D-rated. And while I'm not strapped for power, I am strapped for cash. The Stakhanov is a work horce and she gets what she needs, but nothing more.

I'll be getting in to that soon.
Thanks for the tips everybody.

D-rated is used by professional miners - once they've hoovered everything up, you can leave them behind when you go for the next 'roid. They don't tend to stray too far when the 'roid's spinning the fragments away, so they are quicker, but lose some frags. Saves 'frags/hr'. Obvious corollary is that you need more limpets.
I use A-rated, and mine relatively slowly/carefully. I can afford them easily, so there's no difficulty in my choice. Only advantage I can see in mixing them is that you don't have to spam 12 limpets at once (when they all time out).
YMMV

I use this as a basis : I generally fly from an FC in unpopulated space, and swap hardpoints on whim. Can be used (very defensively) in RES and populated space, but ...
A joy to mine with :)
