Confirmed: Dirtleg missiles far more powerful than ship missiles

This was brought up as likely to happen several times, despite being ludicrous, as posted here by @Miko, and to the scoffs of many. It has arrived.

So just to confirm that the cab can be destroyed by other Commanders, how I don't know but my cab was shot down some how :)

We was just taking off and there was missile warnings and KABOOM!!! 😂 😂 yes it was a Commander I got his name on video, but no worries it was surprisingly fun.
Erm... How did a CMDR fire a missile at your apex cab without a ship? 🤨
There's a two shot missile launcher in the survival store thing.

Corvette's are gonna be ashamed of their "powerful" hardpoints when they witness what really lethality looks like with dirtleg weaponry. :ROFLMAO:👍 If I hadn't seen this coming I'd be unhappy, but I find it pretty funny as it was almost a certainty.

Place your bets gentlemen, which will be more damaging to a massive spaceship; Class 4 Plasma or handheld grenade.

I bet handheld grenade.

Lol, thanks for the honorary mention, dude. Although my rants usually deserve the scoffs when I word them so deliciously for the loving Frontier fanboys.

In all honesty, I stick around because I retain faith in Frontier eventually pulling off what they promised they would deliver. I do hope to see Elite become what was juiced up during the kickstarter and given the love it deserves from her developers. Right now there are too many under-delivered and forgotten features in the game that really need looked at and all Frontier seem to usually want to do is focus on a cosmetic cash cow and their use of the word "exciting" to describe content that ends up being the exact opposite. Lol.

I do hope they don't make a joke out of Odyssey and the balance to it.

Give it time and people will latch onto the outside of ships moonlighting as the 6th hardpoint and decimate ships...

shall we applaud now or later?

Exactly what I predicted a few months ago... MANPADS that are more Powerful than a ship launched missile the size of a truck.
How do you get that?
A lightweight engineered small seeker rack has a mass of 200 kg and holds (well, at that level of engineering, that's probably a couple of rubber bands) 6 shots. So ship launched seeker each missile masses, at the most, 33 kg.
Don't know what kind of truck you are driving, but that's closer to the mass of my bicycle (ok, slight overstatement here - my electric assist recumbent trike is more around 22 kg) than any truck.

As for damage potential - we (ok, I) will need to wait and see the actual specs of a MANPADS in ED. Mass, range and speed will all come into this.

Exaggeration as a stylistic device.

Whatever the actual size and weight of ship launched missiles is... the point that we can probably agree on was that it is considerably larger and heavier than any man-portable missile.

Sure, but there's no doubt that in order to be useful a portable anti-ship missile has to dwarf the damage potential of any ship-mounted weapon.

Same thing as with the tiny weapons on SLFs which are magically more powerful than their much larger ship mounted equivalents.

Looks like we‘ll have to increase the security prior to boarding for passenger transport missions. Not that someone smuggles some device on board, like a black hole generator or stuff like that. Now we can‘t have that, can we?

We tried to take down the Adder last night. Three people with rocket launchers, trying to take the ship down.

We couldn't. We ran out of missiles. Approximately 30 went in and the ship was still at 50%

Apologies about the rubbish video capture.
There are reports of these being shot down with far fewer missiles, so that doesn't add up. You report the shields are down when clearly it's still up by 75% and you also mention that you're attacking your own adder and it's becoming wanted in the same way as the group. Could there be a damage reduction in effect? Doesn't dueling as a wing against wingmen have a similar effect on effects or whatever? I can't remember.

Decent missiles for a sidewinder!, Just pop the canopy, stand up and fire!

That the broadcasting software we're using. The video stream appears to be 3 to 4 seconds behind the dialogue.

We weren't in a team so the three with the rocket launchers were not attached to the adder. As soon as Souv open fire on his own ship, then the adder turned Red. I got ten hits in, Ben got 9 and Shan claimed 4 (Ben used his last missile on Shan for the lols). So that was 23 missiles to get it down to about 50% hull after we'd used a shield grenade to help with the ship shields. If I remember rightly. It takes about ten class 1 dumbfire missiles to take out an unshielded adder and by our estimate it would take between 45 to 50 ground missiles to take out the same ship.

Don't know about anyone else but a rocket launcher missile equals 25% of a class 1 dumbfire feels about right.
