Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

It's nice to see SC backers being able to get together in their game. :)

Same as ever...we're still waiting for an actual game to hang around in though :D

Elite says hello. Hell, Frontier says hello.

At least he is tempering his expectation hoping to get it before the end of this decade.... just 9 more years.

"result of unprecedented fidelity"

"a stop on the Moon while watching the Earth rising on the horizon"

Go crush his dreams of unprecedented fidelity, tell him the Moon is tidally locked and Earth never rises above any horizon.

New York, Moscow and Shangai are going to look fab on a SC Earth smaller than the actual size of the Moon...

Is the fake sleeper Bored? ;)

He is Peter the Sleeper, and quite an Internet sensation already :D

"It changed" is not an argument against change. :) The new handling is better.

The new handling isn't "handling", you need to understand the difference between handling and just pointing and going in a given direction. Handing takes into account surface friction, cornering forces, tipping forces, and in ED's case, surface gravity. I suggest discussing "handling" with a few Car driving simulator fans.

No. There is no “new” SRV handling, it’s all just point and go. The old SRV physics had actual handling. Yes, it was difficult to handle at first, especially in low gravity, but you developed basic skills rather quickly. More importantly, as you started to master it, you could use it to your advantage.

It had depth, it required skill, and it was beautiful. And just like everything else that had depth in ED, Frontier has filled in that depth in response to those who want a game so bland, that unflavored oatmeal is an exotic dish in comparison.

Why, Frontier? Why must you keep destroying the best parts of your game? Why???

I totally agree with this ---^

Though let's not overreact: they maybe had to tune SRV model because of the new terrain and rock scattering system and we're testing an alpha there's plenty of time for them to fine tune the thing.
After watching a couple of times sure the traction and grip are overpowered but I start to see it could be a benefit, if they temper traction and grip.

To stay on topic: don't complain you could have got a thing like the gravbike and the physic engine of SC ;)

Are you all saying they have somehow made the SRV 'easier' to drive?

Can I still J turn and 'handbrake' turn, does it still skid on gravel and ice, does G still have major influence?

Looks like they derived walking physics from SRV code and didn't anticipate anyone doing the training scenarios in 1st phase of alpha, so the original SRV code isn't in and SRV uses the walking code.

That was the explanation someone came up with and to me it feels most plausible.

EDIT: found it:
Sounds to me like you’re seeing spacelegs physics applied to the Scarab model. We always suspected spacelegs would be implemented starting with a fork of the SRV code. The devs probably just need to reinstate SRV physics for SRV models, and this “early access” via training module caught them on rhe hop.
