Hello, I am beginner in elite dangerous. I am unable to complete my mission.
Mission accepted: buy 3 teas and bring them back to mawson dock of the dromi system
I found tea on london relay of the epsilon indi system then I returned to the starting point.
I cannot complete the mission.
If I sell my cargo, the mission remains in progress.
In the transactions menu, the quantity of available goods remains at 0 despite the quantity in the hold.

Can you help me ?

  • In this type of mission you go find tea (some other station, Comoddities Market) and make sure you load it in your cargo inventory.
  • Before leaving the station check your inventory to make sure you loaded the tea. You better have it in your inventory.
  • When you return don't sell your tea in the Commodities Market. Open the Missions Board and hand it in (select) to the mission giver. You then give them the tea and select your reward.

Yeah, for BBS missions need to 'complete' via the BBS board under the relevant faction. It will be at the top of the missions available, give them the Tea directly and they will offer you 3 rewards to choose from. Can usually buy extra and sell at Market for extra profits as usually in high demand if a BBS mission for the commodity if you have the cargo space.

For Trade CGs, (dont worry it will make sense in future), you just sell them at the Market as usual once signed up and it counts automatically.

As stated above, buy the tea, LOAD the tea in your hold, Verify that the tea is in fact INSIDE your hold. Before you leave the station, check it one more time, then proceed to the end stop, open the mission and sell the tea.

Why do I emphasize ensuring the Cargo is loaded? Long, long ago in a system about 65 lys from my now home system, I was a young and inexperienced Commander. I took a job to "Take Widgets from station A to Station B", didn't even have to go search for the Widgets, they would give them to me. So I took the job, Hot-footed it out of the station, jumped to the next system, landed at the end destination, pulled up the mission...and No Widgets. Hmmm...

Fly back to the start station, open the job, Yup, there are the widgets, Hot-foot it back to the end station, open the mission...No Widgets. WTH?!!?!?!?!

Fly back to start, open mission, Yeah, there be Widgets here...Think, "Wait! Maybe I have to buy the widgets in the market". Go to the market, buy X amount of widgets, blast off, get to the end station, open the mission....NO FREAKING WIDGETS!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!?!?!?!!!

As I was in a Sidey, I had filled my hold with Widgets, so I had to sell those widgets (at a loss), and fly back to the start point.

Fly back, land, open the mission...and then I noted the button to LOAD the cargo...Ahhh...I realized that just accepting the mission didn't automatically load the required cargo . So I hit the button, load the cargo, and finish the mission. The payout barely covered my total fuel costs and the loss I took on the other widgets. But I learned a valuable lesson.

1) ALWAYS read the fine print of the mission...ALWAYS. You could be biting off more than you can afford to lose.
2) SLOW DOWN! While space truckin' is a blast, you can miss something important if you are flying like a ninja with your hair on fire
3) If you repeat something and get the same exact WRONG results, you have missed something and should refer to rules #1 and #2.

Hope that you got your problem worked out. Elite Dangerous has a learning curve at times like trying to climb Mt. Everest with a 100 lb pack on your back while wearing cement boots. But in time, it will become natural and second nature. But, even the Commanders who have been here for years still learn a thing or two from time to time!

Welcome to the Elite Galaxy commander!

Yeah as stated above by others, you have to hand in the Tea via the mission board. Your mission should still be there marked with an ! (exclamation point). Use the + button on the lower right and don't forget to click the big button between the - and + buttons to finish the transfer. After that the button marked "Complete" should work and let you pick a reward.

You've probably already found most of the resources listed below. If not, have a look at them and in any case don't hesitate to ask questions here in the forum.

In-game help is available in the form of menu links to the Pilot's Handbook and the Codex (right-hand cockpit panel 1st tab).
For a very good beginner's guide see: An in-depth beginner’s guide to Elite: Dangerous.
Tutorials covering all aspects of the game, many of them in the form of YouTube videos, are available from ED Tutorials.
There is a wealth of useful information available in these forums spread out over hundreds of threads. Thanks to commander @Alec Turner you can access all of that information and more via a single thread: Alec's best of the forum (and elsewhere) [v2].
Here is a good guide on the background simulation (BGS) that simulates the economical and political changes caused by player actions in inhabited systems.
Also check out the inara.cz and eddb.io websites with (almost) realtime info on practically everything in the game.
The coriolis.io and edsy.org websites let you design your ships before buying them.
There are many more Tools and Websites created by fans that make life in the galaxy better.
And last but not least, the Elite Dangerous Wiki contains extensive information on nearly all aspects of the game.

Indeed. Some time ago we found out with the help of @Para Handy's starter account that the supply mission format in the starter area differs slightly from the format in the rest of the bubble. See this thread:

Hey, I'm just now getting into this game, like I've completed less than a dozen missions. I picked up some missions to source some commodities and return them to a station, grabbed the cargo, and flew back. However, now that I'm here, it's not letting me turn in the mission. The active missions...

Just to confirm what people have already said. In the starter area the "Source and Return" missions actually specify the system where you should source the required goods. Your mission wanted you to buy / source the 3 tea from Matet system, this would have shown in the mission details in your transactions panel (left-hand UI). It is unfortunate that they did not think to include the source system in the mission board description or indeed to make it not matter where you buy the stuff, just leave the source as a hint, not a requirement. In fact they have used the generic wording advising you to find best price for the goods. (These sort of oversights are common in the game unfortunately.)

So by going all the way to Epsilon Indi to buy your tea you have wasted your time. (You were lucky not to lose your starter area permit, obviously you had yet to get any promotion.)

Here is one I have just viewed / accepted to illustrate what is needed - note that on the galaxy map the pick-up system has a mission-marker icon (blue globe) displayed:
