Newcomer / Intro NPC Ship Circling

I am playing solo and have landed on a planet near a geological site. There is an ASP Scout circling the site. So far no attacks -- is this something I should be worried about if I deploy my SRV?

Not unless you have cargo or a bounty on you - even they they will attack when you take off, not attack the SRV. Not at a geo site anyway.

Meta alloys being cargo are more problematic than the materials found at a Geo site, cargo other than limpets on a ship can tempt an NPC to attack it.

I've been to Dav's Hope numerous times and there is a beluga that circles the base constantly; On various occasions there has been up to two additional ships that circle the base constantly. NEVER had an issue with any of them.

I did take a shot at a ship once on a different planet, and until I actually hit him there wasn't an issue. Once I did manage to hit him, he turned red and proceeded to attack me with a vengeance that didn't stop until I could get my ship to land and store my srv, lift off and got out of there. Reckon had I not shot and hit him, he would have never gave me a second thought.

Thanks I also never tried dismissing my ship yet -- is that the safest way to go when on the planet?

It's more at risk in open though. Never had a problem with NPC's in group or solo but open play leaves it er... open for a fun-loving ganker to strike down upon it with great vengeance and furious anger. Depending on where you are, of course :D

Anyone have a trick or tip for breaking agrro once an NPC ship is attacking you in the SRV or is the only option (besides logging out) to recall your ship and load up under fire?

Just run away... then recall and board if you want to risk it. If your SRV gets destroyed you just re-spawn in your ship at altitude above the planet - you don't get an insurance claim on your stats, SRVs don't count, only ship rebuys. Cheaper to have to restock an SRV than to pay for a rebuy.

Ok I was curious how long they will chase or shoot at you. I've been able to find some spots in the terrain where they can't hit me but they don't seem to want to leave. I've already taken the magic ride back to the ship after getting the SRV blown up a few times. o7

So there's no real penalty for getting yourself killed in a SRV?
