30000 m/s - Cannot Drop from Supercruise

Hi All - I've been away from ED for some time. I was Supercruising around a system today and wanted to drop from SC at some random place in space. My speed was as slow as possible in SC at 30000 km/s (or was it m/s?)

Anyhow, it was the slowest speed I can go in Supercruise. I wanted to drop but get a warning that I am going too fast to drop without emergency dropping. I did not have any location selected and just wanted to drop. What am I doing wrong?

I remember that this used to be possible. Help is appreciated!

But it is not displayed as 30000 - hence my comment. (Plus you don't get the Emergency Drop message at 30.)

That's completely normal when you don't have a location set/are within drop range of, it'll "emergency drop" you out into normal space with a longer FSD cool-down timer and possible slight damage to your FSD/Hull afaik.

Be aware that sometimes NPCs will drop to your location, even if completely random.

That is wrong. If you slow to min SC speed you just drop into an instance in normal space - no damage, nowt. The "Emergency Drop" only happens if you are travelling too fast for a normal drop (and you have to "double tap" to do it) - it is nothing to do with destination, nav target or anything else - just SC speed.

I don't know what is the max speed for safe drop is but I managed to drop OK at 500km/s - can't be bothered to muck about any more.

It is also interesting that dropping into normal space when submitting to an interdiction gives no damage, no matter what speed you are travelling at when submitting.
