Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Clearly FUD of the highest order! Isn't that right o faithful backers?

Alternately, a damn long way of saying the project is clearly years away from delivering even a fraction of what was promised.

Love how the poster thinks backers can hold CR accountable. CR clearly stated his disdain for people like publishers dictating to him how he should do things. He won't listen to backers either. The only thing that will stop him is a lack of funding, and that will just result in no finished product.

Yes, CR loves saying how it is his game and will be done his way and finished when he is happy. The only thing backers need to concern themselves with is their wallet!

Yes it is definitely odd.

I can't help but think it is financially related. Chris gets a salary for his position at CIG. He's also a board member of CIG UK and Turbulent, both of whom are paid by funds from CIG. Double/Triple dipping galore on top of numerous shell companies. All looks a bit suss to me.

I'm sure there's a perfectly innocent reason though
For what is worth, reddit thinks everyone is involved not just Turbulent:

I had not realized Turbulent is also in charge of Server Meshing? Thought they were now also responsible for new star system creation, but Turbulent in server meshing is a completely new story to me. Or am I missing something?
Especially something as critical as server messhing has been sold.

Do not get me wrong I think the Turbulent guys are probably among the few teams that have a better delivery track record in the CIG sphere, so I would not say it is bad news per se. Just funny to realize that CIG did not publicize that as loudly as the new star system creation 😋 Probably due to the fact that would send the signal that CIG can not cope with their own challenges.

Whaaat?

If we view that through the lense of Agent's leaks (on Turbulent pitching themselves to the Calders as the competent alternative), then it could be they've identified meshing as utterly stalled, and a fundamental blocker for the PU hitting a launch state, and so put their new favourite 'A Team' on it...

If that is what's going on, it's a pretty desperate move. (I mean why the hell would a freshly assembled Turb team have a better shot at it than the CIG guys, who presumably know the engineering side inside out?)

It could just be that they've farmed out the iCache end of things though, which is also bundled into the Server Meshing bucket these days. That'd be more explicable. (Still very intriguing to see it shifted into Turbulent's hands though...)

If it was just about Chris & Ortwin fattening their stake in Turbulent, why not just give them bread and butter asset work to expand their staffing etc? Why give them the nuclear option that is server meshing?

As mentioned, some redditors think everyone is involved in server meshing and that this is just normal. Maybe so. Thing is the only mention to server meshing in the March report is in the Turbulent section.

Aren't they already doing that with the planetary stuff?

Perhaps that is the case but without anything to back up his claims it really is just his view on the matter.

Great quote here

Just (censored) kill me. Just (censored) end me now this subreddit.. this goddamn subreddit dude it's like mental illness on full display. Excuse meee m'lady I COULD not help but notice you were a little too negative for OUR liking.

Would you mind wrapping your critique in a sugary little "i'll eat Chris robert's (censored) for free" wrapping so we can maybe consider allowing you into our cult fortress 😊

In what way are they alike? That's like saying: 'For sure it will come, just like moveable trollies and anti-aliasing.'

Adding vulkan, having items that persist between servers etc. These things... they are done by many games. They could come, and server meshing could very much not come. There's no 'for sure' about it.

(PS if the Hull C makes it this year it will only be 4 years+ late ;))
I'm mostly interested in Squadron 42, and it seems to me like all those techs they've talked about for years are not necessary for a single player game... It's crazy that Sq42 doesn't even have a release window anymore.
