Sitting quietly in a hangar when a message comes in from the Pilots Federation "Congrats on reaching Elite etc". My first thought was "Hang on, that was years ago". Checking the panel I discover, along with my long held combat elite, I'm now Elite in exploration!
Pretty good considering a) I haven't handed any carto in for over a week, and b) I was only at Pioneer 90% before the message arrived (and looking forward to slowly getting the next 10% to discover what the next rank was).
I've requested a reset to my previous rank using the issue tracker, and I hope it's possible to do as I'd much rather reach Elite the normal way over the next few years.

Did you hand in any passenger missions?

Yes, as BH said, passenger missions contribute to Exploration rating. If you've been doing the Robigo pasenger meta-grind, then you'll hit Elite Exploration just by hopping back and forth between those two systems.

That's what you get with a bureaucratic entity, Pilot's Federation data entry take their sweet time, they're on the clock.

Haven't done any passenger missions for ages, I'd been picking up black boxes but had surface scanned a couple of planets that the boxes were floating between.
For months I've been adding the odd 1% to the Pioneer rating by handing in a couple of million worth of carto, I know I haven't cashed in enough to jump 10%.

I suspect we'll get several dozen threads asking for all the additional rankings to be removed much like people asked for cqc ranking to be removed from the right hand panel.

Wonder how that campaign went.
