Just ordered a new comp

Hey folks, Iv just ordered a new comp but im really new to pc's, Im swtiching from a mac.

Can any pc's aficinados tell me how I did? good/bad, longevity etc.

Quite a decent set. However:
  • Any chances to upgrade the CPU to 5xxx series? 15% stronger core may be worth it (depending on extra cash needed, of course)
  • Ryzens like fast RAM modules, 3600 Mhz with low latencies is the sweet spot
  • If there is no way to upgrade CPU and RAM, the motherboard is an overkill for this set
  • It's rather personal preference than a "hard" requirement but I find 27"@1080p screens a no-go. Pixels are just too big.
  • This particular screen is also a business-focused one. Only 60Hz, no FreeSync. I'd say quite a lot of PC's potential will be lost in games.
  • WiFi card 2.4GHz only is a serious limitation unless you are sure you won't be using 5GHz networks in the foreseeable future
  • No operating system included. Just making sure you've noticed it. :)

That looks like a pcspecialst summary.

If it is, you should have paid the £5 for 3 year Silver Warranty (1 year Collect and Return instead of 1 month).

Also, I agree with the above with regards to the PSU.
 
PSU calculators exaggerate often. My rig is 5900X+1080Ti (both more power-hungry than OP's choices) and a good 550W PSU (Platinum cert) and I regularly do multi-hour 3D renders without any issues.

A stronger PSU obviously won't do any harm, though. ;)

Agreed. A lot of folks overestimate the PSU requirements. (Caused by years of marketing...)

The 32gb was just to keep initial price down and will definitely be upgrading to 64gb in the coming weeks as I do some quite intensive editing, good to know about the lower mhz and will definitely keep an eye on that.

The monitor is more of a backup, practically all gaming will be done on a 4k tv that'll also be connected, I know people say that's not great also but it's what I'll be doing.

Good catch, that was an oversight on my behalf as I'll definitely be using 5ghz. Just ordered another card.
And the PSU is very marginal for this loadout, which means it will be underpowered once you upgrade anything

I originally had a 650w but swapped down after one of their tech guys was pretty adamant it would be unnecessary, and to be honest I'm very unlikely to upgrade the gpu at anytime in the foreseeable future.
 
System is fine.

However, if I were to nitpick:
  • The 3800XT is considerably more expensive than the 3700X, but not considerably faster. Likewise, the 5800X is considerably faster, but not considerably more expensive.
  • Without overclocking 3000MT/s memory limits the FCLK of a Zen 2/3 part to 1500MHz, which while sufficient, is still well below the 1800MHz essentially every Zen 2 part can do, and will limit performance somewhat.
  • The motherboard is complete overkill.
  • Money saved from more rational selection of the above components could have gone to getting an RX 6800 or RTX 3070, which are appreciably better graphics cards, availability permitting.

And the PSU is very marginal for this loadout, which means it will be underpowered once you upgrade anything (beQuiet calculator would already recommend a 750 W PSU, but they didn't have the 6700 in the configurator https://www.bequiet.com/en/psucalculator )

550w is plenty for the system in the OP and the model, while not the pinnacle of quality, is quite satisfactory.

Assuming no OCing is going on, peak consumption of the CPU will be around 100w while the card is limited to 230w by default. Everything else in the system amounts to less than 60w.

I have an overclocked 3900X (with all the power and current limiters set to double stock) and an even more overclocked 6800XT (set to a 375w limit) in my new box running on a 650w PSU and I have more than 100w to spare during heavy stress testing.

Tbh this comp almost came with a RTX 2060 and a cheaper board but while talking to their tech guy he let me know they had some of the RX 6700 xt cards that weren't mentioned on the website so the board was swapped to accommodate. There is no reason the 6700XT and RTX 2060 would require different boards and even fairly modest boards will handle the fastest AM4 processor (a 5950X) without issue.

The only reason I can think for them to swap boards would be for PCI-E 4.0 support if the one they originally listed was at least a full generation old, or they simply wanted to sell a more expensive board.

There isn't anything wrong with the board, other than it having a chipset fan which is a potential point of failure that B550 and some newer X570S boards don't have, it's just more expensive than necessary...ROG and X570 tax.
