Guardian artifacts...

Do you have a reason to believe this won't work if you have guardian cargo? Sounds to me like it should, if you boost on FA-off before you're shut down, you should be able to drift quite a distance away from the goid. Won't it help escape?
I honestly do not know. I have not been interdicted or hyperdicted by a thargoid.

In a small ship you can scoop artefacts up from the ground. It's quicker than using SRV, but you can't get the relics. I land for those afterwards.

But yes, this CG is not going to be to everyone's taste. I think that's OK; variety is good.
What ships do you suggest? I guess they needn't necessarily be small, but have a pointy bow and a cargo hatch somewhere near the front, right? Would Conda work?

You do not get hyperdicted unless you had a thargoid probe or sensor in your ships cargo. Then you are marked forever.

Somewhere there was science performed on this.. Just can not find the link

Conda or any large ship for that matter are the worst to try this.

Designs like cobra/vulture would do good I think.. I know I find it hard (but possible) in a dbx

Hm... weird, I could swear that my first interdiction was on my way to get my first sensor fragment.
Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

You think so? I would think that all you need to do is poke the item with a part of your ship that has the cargo hatch...

The conda is what? 150 meters long...

Here is me standing far far away from it

Ok so summing things up from all of you, my initial expectation that there's something more to this CG than it seemed was correct in that:
  • you can collect with your ship (either a small one that picks up manually or with limpets if approaching at a correct angle and with cargo bay facing away from the planet)
  • Thargoids might find your Guardian cargo disturbing

Cool, glad that I asked, I learned a lot.

BTW when looking for cairns containing Guardian artefacts from ship, turn on night vision. The cairns have a characteristic outline which you'll soon learn to recognise.

I would like to add 3 things here:

1) I like the Idea of a CG related to Guardians, Thargoids turning up (though I did not run into any whily carrying several tons of Guardian stuff in my Phantom) etc.

2) I absolutely don't like, that this CG more or less requires re-logging - re-logging feels like a hack to me in general and a CG requiring a hack just seems completly upside-down

3) CGs (in my mind) should be made in a way that wings can do them and maybe even get a slight bonus - this also does not work in this case: you more or less have to use solo mode to be competitive

yep

Well, to me relogging is a pretty cool feature of the game (more on that), although I am surprised to see a CG that so heavily embraces it.

You got a point, it's a CG that outright discourages playing in a wing. I can't see why an MMO game should discourage people from getting together to play, though if Solo is a supported game mode then I wouldn't be OK with it penalizing that either, unless FDev want to blackmail people into multiplayer (which might be the case, it's their decision).

I believe there are better (more logical/integrated) solutions using some kind of respawn. I.e. at Jamesons there could spawn old robots coming out of the buildings that can be scanned and destroyed to get material. Same is true for the guardian sites.
I mean: what does FDev loose with adding this respawn? IMHO nothing, as otherwise people are just relogging all the time.
As an alternative: make sure you can pick up things only ONCE and make engies A LOT cheaper (i.e. 1/100).
(Sry, but I just cannot embrace re-logging as a feature).

Regarding Wing-play: I also play in Solo quite often, still I think that playing in a wing should get a ever so slight bonus also in CGs since I believe that would help the game as a whole (but I may be wrong on that).

Just to add on that - if you think about it: many materials are respawning quite fast, like everything you get from destroyed ships, wake signals etc. Why not have a respawn at Jamesons and other crash sites, Guardian installations and also planets?

Just a thought, do you get the wing trade bonus when selling stuff for a CG? I'd expect so.

@teddibaer

I understand your unwillingness to "embrace re-logging as a feature" and I agree that "there are better (more logical/integrated) solutions" (or at least may be).

What I find captivating about relogs, which makes me appreciate them as a feature in a way, is how unique this is. It's a legal hack. A shortcut that circumvents exactly the most tedious part of the process in a way no other game allows.

Maybe I've simply played too many games in my life, hundreds of different titles over almost 20 years as a gaming addict (or not very far from that), to the point where "legal relog hack" is just an appreciated curiosity, a flavor-adding 4th wall break.
Or maybe playing DokiDoki Literature Club primed me for it xD.

That might be true, but the (correct) claim here is that you can't farm the artifacts effectively in a wing, as doing it effectively pretty much requires Solo & relog.

Ok I dumped my 208 tons of guardian junk, collected with an anaconda using the "belly up collector spam" method, at Delphi and got instant top 10%. Looks like very few people beside me had the idea of asking how this should be done and instead decided to do round trips with an SRV from an 8t cargo sidewinder or something.

I'm glad I didn't have to do 104 round trips with an SRV for that, but it still was more of an exercise in frustration than anything. Finding a proper approach vector to the guardian structure so that
  • angle from the horizon gives the limpets highest possible chance to avoid crashing on pickup
  • distance is short enough that released collector limpets immediately proceed to pick up items
  • distance is not short enough to be in "danger zone"
  • there are artifacts in range viable for pickup (only some have a small chance of crashing limpets)
... proved to be a royal PITA. I put myself in a spot, release 6 limpets and they collect 6 items before they all crash. Then I move 10m in some direction or change the angle by 5 degrees and suddenly I get a return of 2 items per 6 limpets.

I also decided to do the final few jumps to delphi on 100% jumponium, to avoid a couple of extra hops and reduce the chance of a goid encounter ;)

Thanks all for the answers and suggestions!
