Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

If you're running a confidence scam, you put the most effort into the surface appearance.
It's only when you start looking into things that you realize you've been had:

I thought it was a moderately decent take on SC, even if he didnt dwell for too long on the technical issues, until the guy goes and says "[CIG] could sell and licence core technologies they are developing to other interested game companies".

I mean, other than selling the business model and monetizing principles, that is just nuts. The disconnect with reality and dream.txting is too huge for some fans to recover from. It´s almost literally like living in a different dimension.
The video creator is still a Star Citizen youngling with only 6 months of suffering the eternal purgatory...give him time and he'll be just as crusted and salty as I am ;)

To inform the typical E:D forum member, which are usually well infomed and do spit not hatred:

BOTH (nyx and pyro) have their appearances as delivery in the progress tracker (which either means already worked or planned as target).

And the predictions steems from the fact, that pyro and nyx are the connecting systems to ODIN (where SQ42 takes place and should fully developed as part of the SQ42 campaign). So whenever they bring SQ42 to beta / release, they could reveal ODIN and the having the connecting systems already in the verse would be a nice feature.
Frankly I dont think anybody missed that. CiG is all about appearance but sadly, hardly any results. Lets not forget how long more systems are being announced and expected already and we are back to a very fitting picture posted just a couple pages ago, something with "stick" and "carrot" in it.

Concerns are two-sided as well. Because not only does CiG have to come true on their announcements at all (delivering Pyro)....the delivered result has to match expectations as well and that is something I dont see happening. Not just because CiG hardly does anything to keep hype and expectations in check which would lead to a more realistic stance across the communities board. Instead you have a wide chasm between the people who hang to every single word CiG utters and believes it and the people who dont and wait for results to speak for themselves.

Stenton isnt done yet, it took CiG 10 years to get it to this half-finished state. I simply cannot see this company developing one or even TWO more systems in parrallel AND keeping a tight lid on it. No leaks, no peeks, no teasers. Considering how CiGs marketing works and has worked for years I find that even harder to believe. So if there is absolute radio silence about something the most probable reason will be that "they dont have anything".

We are all armchair developers here, the skeptics as much as the fanboys. Even people who actually work in a related profession can only begin to understand CiGs reasons and intentions compared to peoples own experiences. So there are things we dont need to understand and are not entitled to demand like answers but whatever CiG does speaks by itself in hindsight and in year 10 of development the thing that are spoken SCREAM at us in their clarity. Mostly the lack of results but also the fact that polishing before a project is done or close to completion is only hurting. Thats a fact that never was in doubt to me, it made sense from the very start. I wanted to believe that Star Citizens graphical appeal and fidelity wasnt bought with time and money but were a by-product, evidence of superior coding and capabilities.

Needless to say that these "hopes" have crashed and burned by now. My naive goodwill and hopes have been disappointed, crushed and along the way I started to feel like CiG was taking me for a ride, not playing with my money (cuz they never got any) but playing with my hopes. "Fool me once..." and all that only that Star Citizen is the living embodiment of demonstrating that this statement doesnt work for a lot of people, me included. I have given CiG countless numbers of chances to prove me wrong. Shifting my expectations, my timelines, trying to see it all through their eyes. At some point you realize you are actively fooling yourself in order to allow CiG to keep going. When in a chain of probabilities events you always pick the one impropable thing that allows your expectation to check out as "true" at the end...you should know YOU are the problem....not the scammer lying to your face.

And the last 10 years cannot be erradicated either. I understand that a lot of people try to rewrite history as we watch it unfold. CiG and Chris Roberts have to own their past actions, even a spectacular video game that is indeed groundbreaking and unique will NOT render past events meaningless.

And so today.....CiG is hardly swaying anybody with promises and announcements anymore. Its gonna take actual results to do that and a development tracker giving the appearance of progress doesnt even begin to register for me.

And why should I matter in all this?

Simple. Because CiG didnt get my money yet....but they want it for sure and they would take it and give me the game if I ever asked. No doubt. None of that "oh this guy is a hater, he doesnt deserve to play Star Citizen" crap. CiG is hurting for money, they already do lots of things to aquire it...lying to people included. Integrity and purity...again...nothing that would even begin to register in this spiel. So CiG wants MY money and I count more in this scenario because all the faithful or fanboys who are on board already already paid theirs and apart from the few who keep pumping money into this project (and who are not nearly enough to pay the bills, hence why we got investors and marketing campaigns running) are a dead end in the financial formula.

The same goes for every other publisher or seller as well. The moment they got your money they are "done" with you chatting up others but not you anymore. The return value you are going to receive will be the legally minimum and there isnt a single game I can remember which overhyped its announcements but technically didnt lie in the process....Cyberpunk included. Yet I am to believe that Star Citizen somehow is different and does it the other way around?

Again...finding that hard to believe.

The reason why established (and widly hated) publishers have customer support and try to fix or improve things after the sale is not because it would be "the right thing to do" but because they A) have to and B) hoping for repeat customers because these companies are planning to keep making games and a bad reputation doesnt go well with that.

Now CiG.....trying to not use the rose tinted glasses.
  • how is CiGs customer support?
  • what are CiGs services not including additional expense?
  • how quickly or urgent are fixes and patches to correct bugs and glitches overall?

There are more but these are the most important ones I think.

Chris Roberts isnt doing this to finetune his career or to establish a successfull video game company. He understands very well that this project is his last and only chance to get any money apart from working a 9-to-5 job like the rest of the plebs. Its a sad theory but it would explain so many things we see and cannot explain....the length of SCs development included. And the recent announcements of features and timelines they work on only enforces my view in this.

Its almost as if CiG isnt even trying to make Star Citizen but only stretches out the things they have as much as possible to ensure the maximum running time. Star Citizens progress rate already is glacial and a running joke by now but what if its not competence but necessity dictating it?

Lots and lots of examples for that but we all have to decide for ourselves whats what here I guess. Me myself, its why I dont have any hopes for SC anymore. Anything they DO produce is a surprise for me but that stance also allows me to judge these results fairly. DID Star Citizen create something marvelous or didnt it? You know competition in video games is fierce and brutal and while Star Citizen has (or had) some things that allowed it to stand out of the crowd other games always had things that were better or superior to Star Citizen as well. The advantage that Star Citizen had over its competitors dwindled away over the years and to make a splash TODAY it would take more than merely one or two more systems to play in. Thats not cutting it anymore I m afraid.

While its true that a lot of games coming out today lag behind expectations (something thats almost the norm) most of them commit to a fixed result and continue, either trying to improve their creation after release or start a new project trying to make things better, bigger. CiG is not doing that. They seem to attempt a "perfect release" without comrpomises, without insufficiencies but thats not how reality works. And despite the hardcore who cling to that explanation we already know Star Citizen wont be perfect on release as confirmed by Chris Roberts himself. Yet somehow people keep going and hoping because they believe that the CEO himself is lying and SC will be perfect on release. Chock full of content, complex and deep beyond belief and better than anything else on the market.

Even for a mircale....thats a tall order.

Thanks for educating us. Welcome to my ignore list.
You are missing out on good stuff tho....just saying :) You should know by now that this thread isnt living on SC related news because if that was the case....it would be DEAD. Instead we have other things to provide entertainment. ^^

Can you link the web address please, my cookie settings wont allow the video to be shown in your post so its just blank.

Must be you...works for me :D

Oh....we werent talking about Star Citizen? ^^

EDIT. did you try viewing this thread with your OS on a SSD? 😝

Frankly...
Frankly I was surprised you quoted a contemporary message. I thought you dug in past incarnations of this thread until I saw Skiz comment and realised it's just another sock puppet. You never know if it's just a troll or real deluded user - my bet goes on troll, because I don't believe the mission goes as far as going out there and proselytise other forums. Nah, I think it's probably just another forum user who's envious we get this long-running thread and loathes us for it.
