I don't think it went down that well generally, but I really liked Sunshine. To me that's a proper space film, Alien is as well I think.

Don't get me wrong though, in its own way Starship Troopers is unbeatable. :)

Bladerunner
Alien
Dune
2001
Silent running
Aliens
2010
Forbidden Planet
Prometheus
Barbarella
Flight of the navigator
Moon
Robinson Crusoe on mars
Enemy mine
Alien 3
Saturn 5

And shed loads more.

I'm glad you mentioned Dune, I was worried everyone had forgotten the important cat milking scene which was the pinnacle of sci-fi for me.

I love Explorers, mainly as I loved it when I was a kid and it really caught my imagination. I might try to build a spaceship based on a dream one of these days...

I was going to post this exact thread after the earlier 2001 mentions for me thoughts its:

The Fifth Element!
Sunshine
Blade Runner
Any of the Alien(s) Films

and probably um star wars.

FLASH GORDON

If memory serves, was it a cat that was duct-taped to a rat for some unspoken reason?

......(and I will get laughed out of the park for this one) Disney's The Black Hole. .....

No you won't, it's a fantastic film. It's aged pretty good as well. I picked it up on DVD several years ago. The Vincent and Maximilian face off was awesome. Quite a dark film as well, for Disney.

Forbidden Planet: Starring, Robby the Robot*

Plot by Shakespeare and so good they named a bookshop after it.

* Starred in:
The Invisible Boy, My Little Margie, The Thin Man, Columbo, The Addams Family, Lost in Space, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, Mork & Mindy, and a cameo appearance in Gremlins.

More of a TV mini series than a movie, but the Martian Chronicles does remind me of the Elite pioneering spirit. Not saying it is the greatest though as there are too many sci fi movies I enjoy.

opps sorry for the caps can't be bothered to undo that so appologies.

well i did spend the time on the apology and this explanation so now i really can't be bothered re doing it....
