Steam/Frontier

[Hopeless]

Hi.
I have a copy of Elite on Frontier and I also have what was an unplayed dormant copy on Steam.

The Frontier copy is linked to Steam and is the version I have used since release. I recently bought the Odyssey Alpha edition on Steam. So when I fired it up to play, it linked itself to the dormant copy of Elite I have on Steam.

So my question is, can change this so that its linked to the Frontier copy of Elite rather than the Steam version?

You can't really mix and match. If you're running from Steam or Epic, you need to upgrade from those platforms.

In your case, I'd get a refund on the Steam version of Odyssey, then buy it again from the Frontier store instead. Getting Steam involved is just going to cause you headaches.

At the start of Odyssey I was hit with this problem, I had the same as you. I refunded from steam and bought it through Frontier. then the frontier version downloaded onto C drive filling it up and I couldnt get rid of the half downloaded mess it made. I then bought it on steam with the money now in my wallet, mistakenly clicking pay by card! What a mess I got in. I wish the log in mess would get sorted. Just one point of log in and a different email address for each account with the usual verifications would be a blessing. Theres probably good reason this doesnt exist, I just find it very customer unfriendly. I'm so annoyed with the mess ofjust getting the game on my PC that I have barely touched it....it can wait. G'luck!

Seems a right mess really. I've requested a refund, not sure if Steam will entertain it though. I'll buy it From frontier, lesson learned.

I suppose if I uninstall all instances of the game and just redownload the lot from frontier then link to Steam.

Bear in mind that it may want you to stick it on your c drive, I couldnt find a way for this not to happen. that may have changed though. Someonemoreknowledgeable than me could help you here. i am a menace to my various computers!

Just thought you might be interested in an update. Steam refunded the purchase which I thought was pretty good of them. Bought the expansion on Frontier. Started the game from steam and logged out then logged in with my Frontier account. Update was applied in the form of files sync which only took a couple of minutes. Game works fine now!!

Yer.. it was either that or Gizzard Puke but opted for Fester instead.

I used to watch them around Southampton back in the day, loved them doing the 'metal' Coronation Street theme, I bet Fester got bored with being asked to do that one.

Yeah, no. Don't link to Steam at all.

I bought my copy of Elite from Steam before the 2019 changes that made the log-in from Steam required. So I can run completely without Steam, and that's what I do now, to avoid future issues.

Just run the ED Launcher and everything works nicely, without all this new log-in mess they've created with Steam and Epic.

Its a et blimming mess isnt it?! All goes to make it user unfriendly and annoying. I now have a book with all the silly combinations of passwords and log ins for the various accounts...I cant resist a bargain and tend to buy a new commander if theres a sale on. Meaning I now have various email addresses and steam/frontier/epic/whatever accounts all over the place. yeah, I have tried other games but theres nothing like Elite. Especially in VR. I did just download 'Arcade Classics' on steam and am enjoying the simlicity of Scramble, still crap at it!

It's called a password manager. The OpenSource "keepass" programs are really useful for this (one or the other variation is available for basically any OS, from Android to Windows).
