Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Surely that gives CIG a perfect reason for an engine change and to reset the dev clock!!

Improbable's SpatialOS, that Scavengers runs on, still seems to be the best stab at 1000's of physically interacting players in a persistent world with millions of objects.

It's probably not viable for a Lumberyard user like CIG. The Lumberyard licences insists that you use their network services. We're unlikely to get the drawn out excitement of 'SpatialOS network refactor to deliver all the promised things'.

Improbable have been going as long as CIG, just tackling the networking problem of massively multiplayer persistent real time worlds. They have 100's of employees and £100m of investment to tackle this one aspect of what CIG trying are to do.

Almost makes all of CIG's usual waffle about networking look tinpot and half arsed given the resources they'll be able to allocate. :)

I know I would. I fail miserably at finding the time to actually learn to fly in ED atm but I love the atmosphere and everything, because it makes space feel just so cozy and I hate light sabers and yetis or whatever. But if Sq42 turns out mediocre, it'll be hard to keep people interested in the MMO. Should it turn out great, why deprive myself of a quality experience out of spite for EA levels of dishonesty and greed? Some of that wouldhave created an actual finished product, so there's that.
I've owned it for quite some time as part of one of my Star Citizen game packages...Sqn42 digital download. I must admit it was what first attracted me into backing SC all those years ago...the space MMO perhaps not so much. The way it was laid out back then was play Sqn42, carry your character's story into the MMO afterward :)

Since then of course, I've just got older, still not played Sqn 42...just slowly collecting jpegs of ships over the years which now outnumber the amount of motorbikes in my garage. The only difference is that all the bikes in my garage work even though none of them have LTI :D

To be honest Squadron 42 is the only bit I am really interested in and arguably should be easier to achieve as it is just a normal game!!

A dive into what's topical on Spectrum.

To test it. Like everything else in the PU. You can't expect them to release a complex mode without the basics. Now. Could they do this internally and then put it to the PU when it is at tier 1. Sure. But then the outrage would be even bigger.

You are watching a game being built. Think of it as watching a house being built brick by brick. Some things like windows are easy and we will get them assembled, other mechanics will just be a brick among many others.

Yes, we've been watching them build this game and mess around with non-core stuff now for years.

Confusing ganking with griefing.

Apparently the ToW video wasn't popular with quite a few. There have been a number of threads about it. As usual, some golden comments.

Your correct, it is quite alarming that as the years go by the delivered product is...uninspiring.

I know that sunk cost fallacy is keeping a lot of us around. I find it even more remarkable that people are still willing to sink fresh money into the game.

I think much of what we have now is all we’re going to get. Something ...somewhere didn’t pan out like it was supposed to.
My guess is the foundation, lumberyard. But we will probably never know.

I see the direction the game is going, full tilt EvE/GTA and it tells me its the only thing they have to introduce new ‘content’.
They also attract a vocal, loyal PvP following. These guys sink more time, money and effort than 10 casuals ever would.

Anything that stirs us up and causes tension between the PvE/PvP crowds is less energy focused on them not delivering on past promises in a timely manner.

So yes, I agree. Red flags flying...from the sad state of the game to the deliberate changes to cause confrontation between two different play styles.

I hadn't considered this outcome. Imagine if CIG do focus on the PvP aspect and pander to the PvPers. Oh my, that will be glorious watching the SC community become even more toxic as it becomes a PvP haven. It might even exceed the toxicity of the LoL community!

"Mr. Roberts" - haha

Chris Roberts and his family suffer terrible abuse from the Star Citizen 'community' each time he appears on camera. I don't blame him at all for not wanting to engage with some of the filthy ways people treat him when he does. Any time you wonder where is CR, just realize the community chased him out of camera over the last 9 years.

O'rly?

Oh boy... they just can't help themselves.

8 years... and apparently fine with it. But some of the comments are fun.

Here's to another 8 years of waiting!

And a few threads here and there about people not happy with changes to QT and bounty hunting

With all this criticism Spectrum is starting to look like a regular gaming forum!

Missing the point. It's not really about being able to QT right to the target. It's about the activity along the way.
Right now you point in the direction you need to go and watch YouTube. Wouldn't be a problem if we had to track our target as they move around or could be attacked along the way or had to fly around obstacles like asteroids (dense asteroid fields cough, cough).

Ah, i remember when SC backers would literally dreamcraft about all the wonderful things they would do while in QT, the loads of different gameplay loops that would be there for them and keep them engaged, and how ED was bad because there is nothing to do in supercruise.

Also, the white knights are present

You clearly backed the wrong game.

Lethality speaks up

But that doesn't describe the SC player... the player base by and large are not "average gamers" although we seem to have attracted more of them than I expected. Instant action is not what they will find in a universe as big as SC, nor should they.

LOL, you can say that again.

And of course...

What you and everyone else making these posts are ignoring is the fact this is Alpha...

And... urk, if CIG are really going to do this, then i think a lot of people are not going to be very happy.

Not to mention, that Repairs will nowhere be what we have now.... it will NOT be possible to fully repair the vital components of our Ships which, because of Wear & Tear, WILL mulfunction and fail even while "en Route".....

Sure, careful Pilots will do a thorough check-up of their Ship before taking off BUT, since there will be a whole lot of different Regions of Space which we'll need to fly across, even though our Ship was in good conditions when we took off, along the way, and more likely if we had to cross Regions of Space where we found adverse and dangerous Environmental conditions, the Wear & Tear of our Ship may have increased enormousily, to the point that, some of our Ship's components may fail and break down WHILE we are flying to our Target... and this, especially if the age of our components is significant.... the older the components and the longer (and in a more stressing way) they have been used on our Ships, the more they will be likely to break down, unexpectedly...

Repairs, to my understanding, will NOT repair 100% functionality.... as the age of components will increase, Wear & Tear and breakages WILL become more likely...

Therefore, there is no doubt that we will HAVE TO be pressed, while on those Lengthy Travels towards our Target, whichever it might be, to repair, maintain and look after the components of our Ships.

This is the early stage for the Development of Star Citizen, there is a WHOLE LOT more intended to come.

Since I've once again been forgiven and born again redeemed from my most recent ban, it's almost worth another banishment to pop in and leave a couple of my usual Spectrum drive-by flamers. The 'Light blue touch paper and stand well back' kind. I swear the mods on Spectrum have me flagged up as some kind of forum terrorist :D

Ive heard a big red light flashes and a recorded voice says 'Consumer Aware of Rights! Consumer Aware! AWOOGA AWOOGA! Consumer Aware!'

to the point that, some of our Ship's components may fail and break down WHILE we are flying to our Target.

Been done before, Apollo 13, if its was so much fun why didnt NASA repeat it on every mission? After all it was a very popular thing, a lot of people were interested in the outcome who werent bothered that much when it launched.

My latest transgression occurred when I took exception to one of the more...err.. 'gifted' among Spectrums illuminati chosing to describe the idiot Roberts as a true 'visionary'...I should just keep my hands in my pockets and well away from the keyboard when I go on there...Seemingly, overt criticism of the veritable genius or his magnum opus isn't allowed...7 day banishment

Brushing aside for a moment the "average gamer" point (which is devoid of any sense of reality), this comment exposes the dichotomy that stems from the really fuzzy game design and complete lack of vision from CRoberts: is it a realistic sim ? or is it a twitch arcade shooter ? These are at odds with each other (*) and such a game design conflict bleeds through the whole project, developers have conflicting goals to start with (which means they'll continue not producing any substantial result) and in this case the fan base will create vastly different theories on what the game might be.

(*) not saying you do not need fast reflexes in Arma, Tarkov or even DCS - but the overall pace of these is much, much slower, currently SC is closer to Doom or Quake...

We know you are kinda one of the worst SC fans. From the SC co-fan perspective I mean. But we love you anyway.

@Agony_Aunt

Ah, i remember when SC backers would literally dreamcraft about all the wonderful things they would do while in QT, the loads of different gameplay loops that would be there for them and keep them engaged, and how ED was bad because there is nothing to do in supercruise.

I've not timed it but it certainly feels just as long or longer to supercruse 430,000 LS as it does QT'ing from Hurston to MicroTech.

I tend to use that time to Alt + Tab out and do something else, it doesn't bother me much. For both games i can see how this is unnecessary but it is no reason to back one or the other, people who make this argument are being disingenuous, at lease with the way SC is now, yes in SC you can get out of your seat, go into the ship and do something, but what? Astrometrics scanning, ship component maintenance... things like that are not in yet, the MSR has a working Chess table....

My latest transgression occurred when I took exception to one of the more...err.. 'gifted' among Spectrums illuminati chosing to describe the idiot Roberts as a true 'visionary'.

Strange that when all the people who made it despite the odds quote 'Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration' and not 'Make that pixel green not blue' as the secret of their success.

the MSR has a working Chess table.

Is it in yet as a fully functioning Chess game? I keep waiting for that news as that will be the first thing they have actually delivered, but atm it seems they cant even finish that and it should be the easiest of all.
