Odyssey System Requirements on May 19th

With 3,050,240 880k disks, you might want to get an additional external drive. Or do you have one of those fancy high density drives?
No, but I did use to have two external drives for my Miggy for the games you couldn't HD install. These days, thankfully, there are few games that can't be HD installed with WHDLoad.

The system specs were on the Steam page up to March, then they mysteriously vanished in the night, like an old oak table. (wayback machine can show you).

Hopefully they will be back soon - anyone who bought based on the original specs would have a case to be annoyed if they've changed without notice.

Hey good catch. They were there and now they're gone. The original specifications were some light refracting off of Venus which caused the illusion of text on the screen.

Don't panic. Alpha was drawing each detail, even 10Kms away from you and invisible from your position.
Once they enable cut-off of invisible things amount to draw will be 1/100th or so, this means x100 FPS kinda. I really think it will be x10 comparing to alpha.

I ran the alpha on the following rig:
  • Ryzen 7 2700
  • 16GB RAM
  • RTX 2080 8GB
  • 4K 60Hz Monitor
  • Game installed on a SSD
With the following settings:
  • 4K 60Hz
  • Graphics maxed out (even shadows)
Frames (roughly) during the different phases:
  • Phase 1: 20 frames in starports / 40 frames on planets / 60+ frames in space
  • Phase 2: 25 frames in starports / 50 frames on planets / 60+ frames in space
  • Phase 3: 40 frames in starports / 60+ frames on planets / 60+ frames in space
  • Phase 4: 50 frames in starports / 60+ frames on planets / 60+ frames in space
It definitely got better, and I am guessing that they just started their optimization effort mid-alpha. My guess however is, that on launch the framerate on low-mid end PCs will still be in the "ok" range, not good and not bad. For high-end machines I don't see a problem. Only time will tell how it plays out, but given their statement about Odyssey having the same specs at launch or soon after, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Thinking about it, maybe the actual specs for the early access are the surprise they were talking about!

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

I'm in the process of buying bits for a new PC.
For now, I'll just buy a case, SSD, HDD and some other odds & sods and then I'll wait to see what people are running Odyssey on before I buy a mobo, CPU and RAM.
And, of course, a GFX card... if I can find anywhere with a decent one for sale for a sensible price.
