Despite me asking on Frontier Help a couple of times there is still no answer to the question of POI locations in the changeover period. I have accounts now positioned at a barnacle site, Merope 5 C and at Dav'e hope so i can check if they are still there when I logon to Odyssey..
Frontier help has simply ignored my query.
To be fair Frontier help are the support team.

Frontier have said multiple times that some surface sites will have to be moved due to the way that the terrain generation is being changed.

That's interestiung because Horizons and Odyssey (alpha) shared these settings.........
Odyssey key bindings file has a version number that changed for Odyssey - so Odyssey Should not affect your Horizons bindings. The rest of the settings were shared in the alpha - so for example I still got my custom hud colours.

The planet surfaces are different, and POI’s presumably can move as a result. Not sure what other answer you expect?

This was in the announcement.

“In addition, due to the terrain changes in Odyssey, the following will happen when switching over while landed on a planet without an atmosphere:
  • If you logged out in an SRV, then your ship will need recalling from orbit.
  • If you logged out in a ship, then you will load in a short distance above the planet's surface.”

Odyssey was "Bindings.4.0", While Horizons was "Bindings.3.0", however, since the EDO alpha, I have been using a *.4.0 binding file in Horizons...... 🤫

Having a senior moment here, sorry.

What will happen to our BINDS from alpha? Will the binds all need redoing or can/will we still use the Custom.4.0.BINDS file we have effectively already created?

A new and improved ( well at least brought up to spec for most games of the last 5 years ) graphics engine - if the spec's didn't change it would have been a miracle.
I've got a 1060 that's now just over 5 years old, as is everything else in my PC. So I can relax bit - normally you'd be able to upgrade for a pretty modest amount to get to specs required - but unfortunately the current GFX card market is completely broken ( even worse than in Elite Odyssey where a hand gun costs more than a space ship! )

I don't mind/care them increasing the specs, and Id fork out for a new card to play the game if I could find one, but what could be annoying is the fact they previously said they didnt expect the specs to change, but they have. Plus there was no warning right up until Alpha release. My GTX960 was old but perfectly playable with Horizons and still looked pretty and playable on high settings. Will see tomorrow though....

I don't have the original ones at hand but I didn't notice anything, possibly VRAM? I seem to remember GTX780/1060 in terms of gfx cards though. Certainly subtle enough to not worry about it. I'm more concerned about optimisation issues.
Well from what I can see a 780 is not too different from a 770, but the sticking point seems to be it has 3gb VRAM whereas the 770 only had 2gb. My 960 is only 2gb which I suspect might be an issue...

Well, it's only XML, so I guess the client only reads the nodes it knows about and ignores any nodes it doesn't. I'll be backing my mine ( 3 and 4 ) just incase - but I'm hoping Odyssey will just find my Odyssey binds file from the Alpha and use that - as long as FDev haven't changed any of the node names.

I'd expect the further optimising being done to get Odyssey to run on last generations of consoles to percolate to the PC build of Odyssey too... Assuming that they are able to tweak Odyssey low enough to work on those consoles.

Please point me to where this is stated. All I've found on ED Wiki was that we need to updrage to the new APAS. Ships bought in EDO will auto get them. Old ships don't auto get them. As for suits, seems like a perfect opportunity to add suit stores as modules to FC's, but I guess that was not considered yet.

Anticipating the possibility that existing ships may not be automatically upgraded, and having spent most of 2021 as a guest on a friend's carrier far from civilisation last week I flew 50,000ly back to the bubble to buy a carrier, fill it with fuel and a pack of Sidewinders, Cobras & Vipers for my friends to buy & scavenge the APLS from, I am currently waiting on my carrier in Colonia (nearest dock to the rest of the fleet, another 28,000ly away) waiting for Odyssey to drop so I can buy the Odyssey gear for my Cmdr & find out whether I need to keep the sidewinders on my carrier or not.

It'll probably be fine, but if it isn't I'm ready, and I want to buy the explorer suit with it's bio scanner anyway.

Plus it was something to do ;)

My guess (from Bruce's OP) is that EDO binds etc are located in a different folder. I could be wrong though

2GB of VRAM... Ooof. My 4 year old non-gaming laptop had a 960m and even that had 4GB... so not sure what I can say but 'my condolences'.

Please dont reply unless providing a link to FDev info. Thx 07
Did you play the alpha?

If so you would have noticed that in Phase 4, when your own ships were imported, each of them had the Advanced device installed a very short while after they were imported.

Of course, if you didn't, don't believe anything anyone else found out and wait until tomorrow to find out for yourself. If you haven't preordered and are still deciding a quick question to anyone who has bought Odyssey, if phrased politely, may get you a polite response.

Although people aren’t going to be happy with the increase in minimum specs versus Horizons, it should reduce the number of posts claiming the lack of update of Horizons was because Odyssey is a beta. (Spoiler: it won’t.)
