Well, I’m shelving Odyssey for now.

I just can’t believe they’ve released this to be honest, when I was finally able to boot Odyssey I was treated to every single key bind deleted or wrong. No problem I thought - I’ll just restore my back up, except that does not work anymore due to the control menu being reworked, nearly all of the bindings are now incorrect and the default Xbox pad / Advanced pad profiles are now gone.

Great.

So I’ll try some defaults just to see the game, first thing I try was the Shipyard menu from my ship - only to be greeted by the same graphic glitches that were in the Alpha, namely a white line across my ships and a glitch in the background of seeing a target icon orbit my screen.

All this just means that I can’t be bothered to play this - it’s still Alpha and I’m not wasting my time finding all the busted stuff, glitches and putting up with weird design decisions with the UI at the moment.

So disappointing, I was really looking forward to Odyssey as well.

and no Bottom Hat - you can’t haz my stuff as I’ll be back if they fix this train wreck.

Uhm. Just do it all again and done? It's a one-time thing.
The new binding menu is a lot better than it was before and next time you can just restore them again.

I gotta admit, I am not a fan of the new UI...

It's a little more complicated than " Just do it all again and done?". For some of us the game singularly fails to find the controller, at all. Can't bind it if it, apparently, doesn't exist. This is not a problem we had in the "alpha".

Ah, okay. That's bad indeed. :(

When I started Qdyssey live the controls/bindings defaulted to the keyboard and mouse. I scrolled down and selected 'Custom' then all the bindings that I setup in Odyssey Alpha with the Logitech X-56 grey throttle and G13 game board, VKB Gladiaror NXT joystick and keyboard/mouse controls were all there. Looking at the local PC files the Horizons upgrade is still using Custom.3.0.binds and Odyssey install used my Alpha Custom.4.0.binds going live.

As my two PC accounts (bubble and Colonia) were installed in the same PC folders once I installed the bubble Colonia was ready to go.

It would have helped players starting Odyssey live if Frontier had posted a thread about this to select Custom. Then again maybe Frontier didn't have a clue. Wouldn't be the first time.

Running Qdyssey Alpha I had 75Gb of ED files on my PC. Going live I have 135Gb not deleting the Alpha files but I don't care with lots of space on my SSD. Other players might be concerned.

Regards

@ Hooplah

Thanks for posting that, it genuinely would have helped if ‘custom’ was still on my list - it vanished, even when I restored my backup, along with the Xbox / Advanced pad option.

@cmdrTheymademedo

Thanks, yeah - it sucks to be me at the moment, but I’ve already chucked my toys out of the pram, so I’m at ‘acceptance’ now.

After spending nearly 4 hours trying to download the client last night which repeatedly failed despite my download speed being over 100meg , I tried again this morning before work I was able to download the odyssey client and on boot got treated to a very slow, low fps, laggy and boring mandatory tutorial that I eventually skipped, when flying my ship I could not land on any planet and neither could I enter the hanger on a nearby Coriolis, so yeah, not the best pleased lol. I will try again tonight after work. I'm a long term ED player and have got quite used to the shenanigans of patch day with FD, but this has to be the worst rollout in recent memory lol.

I look forward to the promise of Odyssey, but I've also been around long enough to know that what Frontier promises and what they deliver are two very different things. Though I have to confess, for awhile I was actually considering preordering Odyssey, but eventually reason won out over emotion.

ps - I'm not saying you were unreasonable to buy Odyssey, so please don't read that as an insult. Me however, based on my long and sordid history with ED updates, should know better by now. Thankfully I saw the writing on the wall and saved myself $40 and a lot of heartache.

Still just getting orange sidewinder here today, after getting it all last night was only in game for 5 minutes yesterday before the servers went down.
Total waste of time and money.
I have also got 3 other accounts that I bought Odyssey for, luckily I haven't tried it on them accounts and will now get a refund on them as FD does not deserve any more of my money.

I’m going to take another look, something Hooplah said has made me wonder about the Horizons client. I’ll post back if I find anything.

Till then, those toys are staying out of the pram!

Well, I've been looking around on the forum and what I was afraid of happened. I see tons of bugs, downgrades in UI, compatibility issues and crashes. Now I get it: bugs were to be expected and not every bug necessarily is related to the game and could be on the player's end. But I've seen enough so far. I also don't trust FDEV to fix bugs anymore since I haven't seen much activity regarding that. Thus far (installed ED 1 year-ish ago) only the PWA bug. And that's still not functioning normally.
So I partially join OP. Only I'll leave EDO in the shopping window for now.
I really hope that'll be temporarily because I still am very enthousiastic about O (I'm not even going to try to spell that correctly. You know what I mean. (-;)

@ Old Duck

No offence taken, I’m Premium Beta player and I have a LEP, so I did not pay for it ‘directly’. I think (for some reason) I was expecting better from this release. I dunno, it’s on me I guess.

There is no way in hell I’m quitting and doing the full Bazmason, I’ll only sit on it and wait if I have too.

Yeah I think the bugs, like the too-dark visuals, the server issues and stuff, performance and textures, we know those will be worked out and while it's frustrating for sure it's not unreasonable to assume that stuff will get sorted. But some of the deeper things like the UI changes or lack of consistency in mission payouts and item pricing is a worry because those are probably a significant effort to revamp, and may not be handled thoroughly until the next big content update.

I’ve done some digging and found that according to the binding error logs there is no game pad attached, well there is, plus it was working in Alpha. For some strange reason it no longer works in the RC.

Whats worse is that running Odyssey then kills your Horizon binds meaning you then have to restore that backup as well.

I did some digging too, turns out I needed to disable steam input for the game, and my controller game back.

Only relevant if a steam user of course.

Not using steam, just checked the error logs in the binding file and its saying there is no gamepad detected, while its plugged in and working.
