Newcomer / Intro Off to Sagitarrius A

I am currently 4,746 light years from the core. I hope to put on another 1000 light years before I have to sleep.
Space is lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And parsecs to go before I sleep,
And parsecs to go before I sleep.

With apologies to Robert Frost

Welp, last I checked, I was 1200 light years from the core, I'd made a number of jumps after that, but the server is now being mean to me and has me locked out again. So I'm somewhere around 1k light years away maybe? Give or take 50 light years or so? Ish?

You're taking passengers? Makes sense in a Dolphin I guess :) If you do have passengers (and are new to passenger missions) it may be worth NOT visiting any stations before you get back - some are sensitive to being scanned and will get unhappy. Some major sense of humour failures have been occasioned by passengers rage-quitting on being scanned after long journeys ....
Which is why you are taking passengers only to Sgr A*.
Where you don't simply "dump" them, but offer them in supplication to the Great Old One who sits at the center of the Galaxy, to ensure smooth seas and a following wind.

I see it as a great business opportunity. Round them up and explain to them that you took them where they wanted to go for a fair price, but now they have a choice to either stay here or return to the bubble for a small additional fee of, let's say, half a billion credits.

In four days? Good job!

Next time we'll tell you about the neutron highway. :p

(Seriously. Good job, though. Lead-laden butt and nerves of steel. :) )
I made 98.9 million credits. Would have made more but I didn't honk a lot of systems early on. But did once I was told about it. Went from no rank in explorer to Ranger +52%. On my return trip, I'm going to be heading to a different destination, and will be FSS every system I go through till I hit civilized space again, so hopefully, I'll make much more on my return trip.

congratulations what a journey!
Thanks. Now I have to plot a course that will take me back to civilization, but going in a somewhat different direction. I may just zig-zag around for a while and aimlessly wonder. But then, I may also just go straight up, fastest route. 24k LY's isn't anything to sniff at and I suspect i'mma really wanna hit civ space asap.

Cool! You may want to visit EDSM.com and see if there are any catalogued points of interest along your journey that are worth visiting, since you're out there already. And there's always Colonia if you need to visit a station. LOL

Oh, and there's DSSA fleet carriers everywhere if you need to sell exploration data. They take a surcharge though, just FYI.

What is a relatively efficient way to do it (or better said - an acceptable compromise between money earned and time spent) is to look at a map to find places that look interesting. Nebulae, patches of massive stars, etc.
Jump there via fastest routing, then once there switch to economical which will zig-zag you through the region on its own, then back to fastest routes for the next speedy leg.

Personally I discovered an interesting psychological phenomenon, which probably is quite common even within explorer community who are generally pillars of patience - I don't have a problem spending weeks upon weeks in the black, scanning, exploring, going who knows where, but once I decide I'm going to turn back and go "home", I realize I want to be home like... right now. And I'm usually not able to do a whole lot of exploring after that and just beeline it back into the Bubble.

If you did repeat a trip setting the filter to not include visited stars would stop you getting too many duplicates as it would try and avoid systems you have visited, but it is risky as you are more likely to get non scoopable stars.

Oh dear - did nobody tell you about the thread to record your SagA* visit?

sorry

Commanders Log, Stardate : heckifIknow

I am currently under 10,000 light years from home. My ship is badly damaged from a pirate attack. The third one I have endured on this trip, though the only one to actually have damaged my ship. Emergency repairs were successful, though my systems are operating at less than 100% efficiency. Another passenger has died, but this one was by my hand. Sending me unsolicited pictures of ones extremities earned him a sentence of death. But that's what he gets for thinking with his tiny brain. I did rather enjoy his begging and crying in the airlock just before he tasted vacuum. But I'm a sadist, so I shouldn't at all be surprised. Our current course took us through the Lagoon nebula. That was quite a view let me just say. Anyway. There is about 400 more jumps to go before I can dock at home station. It's still a long way and a lot can happen between now and then. I may not have any passengers at all when I get there if they keep annoying me like they have been.
