I understand, but a lot of people don't make the difference. When I say developer, I don't mean individual developers. I mean Frontier as a company.

That would be disrespect or lack of respect, not spite. What you describe is not taking the time needed to make a good game or working out the bugs. Spite is leaving in bugs or broken parts of the game to deliberately annoy the players.I think a company's respect and regard for its customers is expressed in the quality of its products and the honesty of its marketing and press.
I understand the point, but it's an overly simplistic view.I think a company's respect and regard for its customers is expressed in the quality of its products and the honesty of its marketing and press.
Or, they could do what Hello Games did, get into gear and repair the damage. NMS was a dumpster fire at release, and the flak they got reflected that. But Hello Games pulled through, and now it's a good game. Lost reputation over a borked release is difficult but not impossible to regain. At this point, after all the negativity from people who simply have no idea how businesses work, if I was Frontier, I would probably say something like "If that's the gratitude we're going to get for three years hard work and improvements, having to cope with the difficulties Covid forced upon us .... if that's how you all feel, I guess we'll call it a day for Elite." And call up Amazon and shut down the servers.
It's not a dumpster fire. If you listed point for point everything that was wrong with Odyssey and everything that was at least ok or better .... trust me, the negative list would be much smaller than the positive list.News flash. Consumers don't want something that's a dumpster fire that they paid money for. We saw this happen with No Man's Sky launch. We saw this happen with CP2077 launch. The developers got torched, and rightfully so. Why should this developer be any different for a launch that should've been pushed back for several more months it seems. So yeah, you are white knighting absolutely valid concerns and anger for a subpar product. Telling people to close their forum accounts? Yikes. Talk about shilling. In the wake of the CP2077 launch, how could you ever possibly think releasing this game in its current state was a good idea?
Ok, I did it already but :It's not a dumpster fire. If you listed point for point everything that was wrong with Odyssey and everything that was at least ok or better .... trust me, the negative list would be much smaller than the positive list.
This person has the right approach.Or, they could do what Hello Games did, get into gear and repair the damage. NMS was a dumpster fire at release, and the flak they got reflected that. But Hello Games pulled through, and now it's a good game. Lost reputation over a borked release is difficult but not impossible to regain.
Yeah, that's EXACTLY how businesses work.At this point, after all the negativity from people who simply have no idea how businesses work, if I was Frontier, I would probably say something like "If that's the gratitude we're going to get for three years hard work and improvements, having to cope with the difficulties Covid forced upon us .... if that's how you all feel, I guess we'll call it a day for Elite." Have you seen the reviews on Steam ?It's not a dumpster fire. If you listed point for point everything that was wrong with Odyssey and everything that was at least ok or better .... trust me, the negative list would be much smaller than the positive list.
And just because I post "STOP BEING SO NEGATIVE" is not white-knighting. If that's "white-knighting" to you, I don't think you understand what the term means. Oh and if I was a shill, I'd have gotten a box from Frontier with a terrarium in it ... and I didn't get one. And that's not me calling those who got a box "shills" either, don't misunderstand what I said there.
You see, I have been critical of Frontier releasing Odyssey now (look up my post history, go way back, I literally posted the Picard facepalm meme in reaction to the release date announcement). I don't have to justify my opinion to you, you're a nobody. Do you really think Frontier are going to listen to ANY of these posts moaning about Odyssey?
I've been here, on this forum, longer than 99% of the current membership. I've seen Frontier change over the years. I have a much better idea of how Frontier operate than you (probably, I'm speculating here). And yet, I'm also a nobody to Frontier. They won't listen to me. What makes you think they'll listen to you?
Stop focusing on the negatives. Yes talk about them, that alone will bring to them Frontier's attention. But look for positives as well. It is not a dumpster fire, not at all.
Either way it's really not worth getting upset over.Well you have to ask yourself, do you feel respected as a paying customer, even minimally, by FD given EDO's marketing and current state?
Overall, I'm going say it's probably a change to the rendering code or shaders (I'm not a dev, so I literally have no idea how it works)Ok, I did it already but :
BAD :
-Cockpit is way darker. Seems like I turned off the lights.
-UI in cockpit is way to dark, and hard to read. That's with gamma maxed.
-Radar in cockpit is ridiculously bright ?
-Overexposure for characters portrait. For people with dark hair, it's ok, you just have black hair now. For everyone else, you have white hair. The engineer pictures are all terrible because of that. Details, freckles and color are white washed. See here for more.
-My character inherited a stupid grin. So did my crew.
-Skybox is horrible. It's just white dot on a black canva. That's not how the sky look like, even from Earth with it's thick atmo. See here for more. Including my post with pictures if you live in a city and never saw a real night sky.
-Bookmark can't be set course directly. It's complicated now
-Galaxy map is way more complicated to use
-The entire new UI can be summed up as "everything takes a few more click and is less intuitive".
-We've lost the transition animation when changing ships. It wasn't the best thing in the world, but it was certainly better than a dark screen with a loading icon.
GOOD :
-I like that storage module are now organized.
-We have spacelegs, when it works (6missions 4 failed due to bugs).
You don't have a universal opinion. Neither do I.
Look at the trailer, the planet we have are different. There is even the leftover graphic option they use for the trailer (ULTRAFORCAPTURE). Sure, almost no computer can run with that option, but it makes everything closer to the trailers.
It's overexposure/whitewashing. All the engineer have white hair now. Mel Brandon is nearly white, and this is my character :"Overexposure for characters portrait. For people with dark hair, it's ok, you just have black hair now. For everyone else, you have white hair."
Did you know that in real life, I have grey hair (those who've met me in real life can confirm). It's not all grey, some of it is still my natural hair colour of dark brown, but most of it is grey. Take a photo of me, and even without a flash, I have all white hair in the photo. I have no idea why it happens.
Steam reviews? You really think anyone cares about Steam reviews?Have you seen the reviews on Steam ?
I bet many of the Steam reviews from players that have never posted here
Steam reviews? You really think anyone cares about Steam reviews?
I never listen to movie critics ... except one, Mark Kermode. If he hates a movie, I know I'm going to like it. If he likes a movie, I know I'm going to hate it.
Never listen to reviews, esp on Steam
Steam review are very important for game companyies. Really. It seems a lot of people don't check forums, or press, and just follow steam review/trailers for their purchases.Steam reviews? You really think anyone cares about Steam reviews?

And it will get fixed. It's overexposure/whitewashing. All the engineer have white hair now. Mel Brandon is nearly white, and this is my character :

Notice how everything is white washed. Hair from red to white. Eyes from green to yellow-ish. Freckles invisible. Lipstick gone.
I dunno what's that white washing, but it's bad. And it's 3307, I'm sure photography is better. And it will get fixed.
I know this is a poor analogy, but it's like painting a room at night with the light on, then in the morning opening the curtains and the sunlight makes the walls a slightly different colour.
