ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

This is all working pretty well for me so far and enjoying the new ugrade a lot. I was surprised - my comp is a 6 year old iMac running Windows under bootcamp and I'm getting an average of 55FPS on a 5k monitor (at worst about 30FPS as I come in to land on planets - jumps up to about 50FPS when down) - not great, but higher than expected considering age & graphics card. I don't use fleet carriers, so shame that's not working for people. Haven't had any problems loading the game, but will be on it a lot more this weekend.

This is frankly starting to be annoying !! The Fleet Carriers are still stuck and still have no information on anything for more 24h. They must be joking. I also regret having bought the extension, next time I will wait 1 or 2 months and I believe that many people will do the same.

This expansion is an absolute hot mess. Literally hot - my 3090 hit 72degC in a combat zone.

Based on previous update launches I wasn't expecting perfection, and I'm ok with that - I pay to ensure the product keeps getting better.

But this is like being treated with utter contempt. Disgraceful.

With the release of this update, they just on their reputation.

All of the above really.

I think it's pretty awful when your expectations are so low that you expect any release/update/DLC to be an utter crapshow. It's a shame as I have a real lot of love for the game, being a player of the original as a kid and it does have a lot going for it. The execution of any release is abysmal. There are so many small minor things that can be fixed that would make a huge impact of improving the playability of the game and teh game 'experience' but instead we get treated like crap. Patience wears thin.

What a dumpster fire this release is. Not going to bother until it's reduced in price and stable ... time to look to other games for me really.

We got your atmospheric planets, we got your zero-G EVA, we got your ship interiors, we get your base building, and all for half the price of Odyssey :D

EDIT - and all this at ultra settings 60+ fps on a modest gaming PC ;)

Try loading "horizons" again and move to a station or carrier, then exit (also exit form launcher) and relogin into Odyssey!

This doesn't work for everyone though, do take notice when writing this that you give a heads up as it might annoy people as it gives them hope and you get orange sidewindered anyways.
And yes I'm one of the unlucky ones. :(

Just trying to help here, but if people get annoyed by just a simple advice on trying to solve a problem , then my advice and opinion on that is they should start managing better their own frustration. Go out and chill out! Things will get resolved with time.

Do they plan to have planets ever get as large as even the tiniest potato moons in elite?
Sure! They'll be coming around the time Elite gives us spaceship interiors and landable earthlike worlds :p

Irony is that I've spent months exploring just one planet in Space Engineers and I've yet to see everything there is to see. I'm talking player bases, biomes, etc. I just cannot say this about even the largest planets in ED (though perhaps Odyssey will change this).

Things seem to be running fine for me, as well. Happy to see variance in bases and folks at the social hubs in stations. Also happy that the prices for weapons, etc, was the same as the Alpha. I was expecting things to jump up in price.
The game loads faster for me than Horizons. As to planets, either the Odyssey data/engine is missing something, or where there were once mountains, they've made hills. Maybe some threshold thing? Anyways, really enjoying the new colourization of the planets but missing the sharper edges of Horizons. I think or hope that is a fixable maybe unintended result. And some lighting issues.

Im glad they left Horizons, as is, and now I swap between the 2 to compare how things look.

Hi, I'd like to add my 2p worth by saying that I am really impressed with the upgrades and improvements. I haven't played for about a year and I'm pretty happy so far. Admittedly I'm running an Intel Core i7-9700K , a GeForce RTX 2080 Super and a Samsung 49" curved display, but even so...I have had no problems walking about the stations, although the transition between HOTAS for ship and keyboard+mouse for foot is a bit weird.

Also impressed with the improvements - graphics are much better, small touches like searchlights sweeping the ship as you come in for a landing, flashing beacons on the exterior of stations...great.

One thing I would say - the speed of walking is fine but frankly the pace/footfall is a bit girly...needs to be slowed down a bit to become more manly!

I accept that some are finding it to be a problem, but I do wonder how many are trying to play on rather older machines?? This has been an issue since PCs became gaming machines. I used to be a computer tech and the number of times I would get complaints, go and check the machine, and find that it was ancient. One guy was warming his hard drive in the oven every morning!!

Hi, I can see your point, but the game performance did change quite a bit from Horizons to Odyssey (and yes some parts of Odyssey do look pretty good).

I have a decent PC I think: Ryzen 5 3600 (6 cores/12 threads), 16GB of RAM (3200MHz), RTX 2070 8GB and the game is instaled on a very good SSD with lots of free space.

If I choose to play Horizons, at ULTRA settings (everything maxed), 1440p (lets forget about FPS for a bit ok) my GPU is at around 43% utilization and sometimes goes up to 55% in the middle of a fight with lots of ships shooting each other.

Now If I go Odyssey just stading in the space looking at basically a black background with some stars way, way away from me, the GPU utilization is around 75%, doing nothing, just standing there.

Of course a PC needs to be upgraded every now and then to keep it up to day, but not everyone can do it, specially now with the global pandemic and the insane prices GPUs have.

I can run Odyssey, but sometimes you have to set yourself on the other guy feets, Not everyone owns an nvidia RTX or AMD 5xxx/6xxx GPU. Those people that were able to play Horizons without any issues or frame drops, now have a new DLC that runs like crap on thier PC, specially when on foot.

I know people with GTX 1060 6GB that are having horrible FPS even at Low settings in Odyssey (They have tried all the things we have read about deleting grpahic settings, upgrading/downgrading drivers, etc), and they used to be able to play ED Horizons on Ultra settings (just tweaking a few options a bit down (from High to Med).

But hey, lets hope they can figure out a way to tax the systems a bit less, perhaps avoiding drafting and rendering pixels that can't be seen or stuff like that.

Edit fixed the GPU utilization, wrong number for horizon.

I don't know what we're talking about.
Previously wrote that after the alpha will be a beta version, the game's release on PC. And it will last until the release of the game on consoles.
Or you do not believe that Odyssea will work on older consoles?
You just have to wait.

On stations:
10-15 FPS with lowest graphic settings , though I changed Win 10 settings on my new NVIDIA card (newest game ready driver) / Win 10 -> Power management mode to performance mode, tried out several changing's over hours, nothing worked. In Horizons with high graphic setting everything is fine 45-60 FPS...
