Odysee is unplayable, isnt it?

It's a promising idea, but yeah, at the moment it's unplayable. They really need to sort out the visuals and performance hit when transitioning to the planet, and you know, the performance hit of showing a few prefab buildings. They're doing something really wrong for this to be performance breaking. The contrast is shot to bits too.
Then there's the inability to instance, the glitches all over the shop etc.
Once they've done the basic technical work to make this fit for release, they can pay some attention to adding some variety and content. I just want a working game to start with.

With tears in my eyes.. yes its unplayable at the moment. (What happend with the beautiful planets that where in alpha?)

Sorry OP, but you're wrong.

If Odyssey was "unplayable" then how come I was playing it yesterday from 0500-1900hrs UK time.

And I'v been playing on it since 1200hrs today.

Yes, I'v had the odd error on the missions side.
Yes I'v had a couple of exits to the load menu.
Yes it still need some more fixes.
Yes, like others I can't move my Carrier.......but I'm doing other stuff until that bit's fixed.

But NO OP! the game IS playable, certainly on my HP Laptop with GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, I can't complain.....but some will!

Odd that you would say you "can't complain" after listing a number of things that went wrong in just a few hours of play for you. ;)

These aren't even the only issues.

Everyone has their own thresholds as to what is and isn't 'playable'. Glitching missions and random exits to the main menu is enough for me, personally.

I have an i5-4570, 32 Gig of RAM and a 1060 and things are running fine, if not better than Horizons. I'd say many things have improved since the alpha, while there are some things they need to improve or change more. Hope you can get in sometime! But, I cant say Im not liking the oppurtunity to run both Odyssey and Horizons. I hope they keep Horizons as is.

The new content is mediocre and much of the old content that it updates it makes noticeably worse. Even if I assume they'll fix the more flagrant bugs and get performance up to snuff, without some fairly drastic changes--to the interface in particular--the merge will substantially damage Horizons.

That said, I don't consider it 'unplayable', just a net downgrade.

I wasn't expecting a bug free release, yes there's issues, they'll get sorted.....well most big issues will, some lesser one's willi remain.
Now X4 on release WAS unplayable, 'cos everytime I hit the menu screen it crashed to desktop....everytime! now that was unplayable & I'v not played it since!

Maybe I am more tolerable than others........then again I'm playing Odyssey & enjoying it, despite the odd hickup every now & then;)

Yep, X4 was sadly pretty borked at release for many people - but is silky beautiful and playable now. Now at version 4.0, with two released expansions and another underway. The future is certainly bright for that game.

All depends on how much faith you have in the developers that they will fix their stuff. Egosoft have a great track record in fixing bugs. Frontier... well... let's be kind and say they have a slightly less good rep on that. So we'll see. 🤷‍♀️

Glad you're enjoying Odyssey. I'll wait for the full release in the Autumn.

So, is anyone going to start a petition to keep Horizons going in the autumn instead of merging it? I'll be all for that. I don't want these to be my last few months of playing E: D...
I honestly don't understand this attitude. 'Horizons' is still there in base Odyssey. If you dont have Odyssey then just carry on with Horizons, whats the problem?

Massive performance downgrade with the new engine is the problem. If Horizons gets updated to use it (as is slated with the full release in the Autumn) and that isn't sorted, then there will be a lot of very annoyed Horizons players who have no interest in Odyssey.

Just spent the morning playing EDO. I’m playing it just like I play in EDH, except for the occasional walk in to station. (Not interested in pew-pew in the least)
I took a shuttle to where I had my combat Vulture parked and had no trouble getting it selected and flying it.
It seems the hot fix took care of a lot of the lighting issues, as it looks just like EDH to me, but with better textures. The overly bright central radar screen is back to the way it looked in EDH as well. I’m getting used to the new GUI and am starting to like it more, but I still have some complaints about the outfitting screens. Also with the shipyard views of my stored ships as there is no listing of what is installed in each one. I was looking for where I left an engineered FSD, and had to load 4 ships before I found it. In EDH each ship screen had a complete list of all the modules that were installed. Hope they bring this back. Probably should head for the issue tracker.
Probably should mention that I am having a nice smooth frame rate experience, with only the occasional micro stutter, pretty much like EDH. Hopefully things will stay that way. I have a system that is about 5 years old that I put together myself. Processor is, if I recall correctly, an I7-4590 or something like that. 32Gb RAM And a GTX1660 card.

I guess that depends on your set up. There will have to be optimizations for the console version anyway so that will feed in to the PC version regardless.

They are merging the builds at some point in the future--which should be a good thing, because splitting the player base and forcing people to switch clients to directly interact is not.

However, there are a bunch of things that have nothing to do with legs that Odyssey changes. Many of these changes are annoying, and some have no good workarounds.

Maybe. We'll see. I've seen reports of people with 3080/90s who were getting 150fps in Horizons but less than 40fps in Odyssey. 🤷‍♀️

Any yet im on an RX480 and generally getting 60fps. Doesn't make any real sense, but this wasn't any different when the first alpha dropped or Horizons for that matter. It will get sorted .

Yes Egosoft let me down with X4, I'v played all the early stuff in the X series & was dissapointed with the X4 release....maybe I'll load it up someday & give it another try!

I'v played ED since launch & know that EVERY update comes with :poop: loads of bugs & issues. Some are fixed in days, some weeks/months....some never!
ED is the ONLY game I'v ever bought that I'm still playing after 6 1/2 years.........& I'v seen the conception, birth & development of the games industry over the last 40+ years.

Probably I'm used to Frontier 'style' of releasing updates & just accept them 'as is'🤷‍♂️
