New outfitting screen is a big leap backwards, please bring back the old UI

There are like a zillion examples of inventory systems that address similar gameplay they could have used. I mean look at Battletech or something.

I get that the UI is always going to suck some because like many devs who have a console version they doin't bother with a PC specific UI..... but anything would be better than this.

Of all the problems with this update, the changes to the Outfitting and Ship Manager are the worst! So as not to be vague I am going to outline just a few of the things I have run into.

I can't see at a glance what I have equipped on my many ships.

I can't easily manage and swap my engineered modules or see what engineering mod I have or what level of said mod.

Can only swap modules from module storage.

When swapping modules you can very VERY easily sell your currently equipped module, effectively deleting tons of engineering grind in the process!!

Navigating the new UI is extremely unintuitive and convoluted with a ton of extra button clicks just to do simple commonly repeated tasks!

There is more, I may need to switch back to Horizons take some screenshots for comparison but the bottom line is this old saying "Do not fix what's not broken"!

Agree, the new UI is a piece of crap.
1. you cant see stored module modification when they're stored
2. you cant pick the hardpoint then place here stored module, only way is to pick stored module then place to hardpoint
3. AND THE WORST. By the default when you reaplacing a module is to SELL the replaced module and you MANUALLY need EACH time to switch it to STORE not sell

Finally, its very easy to loose the module in due to unattended sell instead of store.

It seems no one from Fdev is actually playing that game, engineering the ships, storing and swapping modules on multiple ships.

outfitting my ship, which I realized is something I do constantly, has now become a nightmare.

And in VR, when you exit the outfitting screen, you're stuck looking at your ship with no UI -- you have to exit and re-log to go back to launch screen.

The only thing that the old UI needed was to better sort the 120 stored modules I am constantly flipping through.

and the galaxy map is a nightmare too, at least in VR.
I consider it broken.

Maybe they launched with broken UI as a matter of internal corporate politics to fire the UI guy or something.

Can anyone explain to me in easy words how I am supposed to find out now which of my gazillion ships has the 5A engineered FSD installed without swapping through the ships and checking manually?
Unfortunately I found no useful way in-game, I use https://inara.cz to do that.

Navigate to "MY FLEET" (in the second row on the top right). Then searching for a module is faster through "ALL MODULES" on the left than going through individual ships.

The only issue with inara is that it can not get experimental effects of stored modules through FDevs API, for modules on ships you can get all the details including experimental effect but no cr value (to identify community goal or discounted modules).

This is just getting more ridiculous as time goes on. FD cant be bothered to keep up with details so third party apps and websites spawn to take up the slack for them. Its no wonder oddy looks like it does.

All the UI changes are a total FAIL.
Galaxy map... FAIL
System map...FAIL
Mission board... FAIL
Outfitting...........FAIL
I am staying with Horizons

and not getting Odyssey for my alt.
Completely disagree. None of the things you listed are a "fail". Are they working the same as Horizons? No, because the UI has been redesigned. Redesigned does not automatically mean fail.

Let me give you an example, I've bookmarked a station, let's say it's Jameson's Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra. In the Galaxy map in Horizons, I could plot a route from the bookmark. In Odyssey, the bookmark selects the system, I then look at system view, and plot the route from the station there. It's a slightly different way of doing it, and you could say it's extra steps, but it's not a "fail", not at all.

The reality is people are resistant to change, not just in Elite Dangerous, but in anything.

This step of planetary view, plot to starport is objectively worse.
I have it already bookmarked, I don't want or need the extra clicks.
I don't get why you defend that point.
The map isn't bad, but there is a lot of lost functionality and exra clicks.
