New outfitting screen is a big leap backwards, please bring back the old UI

So, I've just had another (longer) look at this and realised that the engineer tab on the ship only shows you the mod, not the experimentals. So I can see that a multicannon is OC but don't know if it has corrosive, incendiary or autoloader

Also, all my pinned blueprints are gone except Palin
Wow, if my pinned blueprints I just set out in Colonia were gone.. I'd be one salty Commander too. Condolences

I haven't had a chance yet to see if/what changes there are compared to what it looked like in alpha, but based on my observations back then the new Outfitting UI does a few things better than the old. Installing stored modules for example was combined with the store so there is now one combined view of everything available for a slot, with filtering baked in via the categories (filters have been a long requested feature). The alpha build had a bug preventing it from working properly but once it does it's actually an improvement.
Likewise the ship stats panel at the bottom which was context sensitive in the old UI and has now been decoupled so it shows everything regardless of what kind of module is currently selected.

That said it is somewhat disappointing to read that some information is still missing and it appears that not much has happened there between alpha and release.
nope, now you can only install the stored modules in the stored modules section, there are no combined view with all available for a slot. in outfitting you can buy a module and install it, but if you want to install a stored module in a module slot you need to exit outfitting enter stored modules, select the module you want and finally select the slot.
In horizons works exaclty like you say, you select a slot and can install any stored module or buy new module in the same place.

....and if u need to install 2nd module, u have to repeat all steps from 1st screen in chain., because when u installed some u're on wrong screen :D
...also you can see modifications on INSTALLED modules, but cannot see on stored :D so keep guessing.

God, they didn't fix that? That's one thing I hoped they'd address for the live version.

Though I did expect it, which is why I tidied up my entire fleet's (37 ships) outfitting over the weekend.

This. There was no need to verschlimmbesser* Odysseys UI.

*verschlimmbessern is german and is an amalgamation of bettering and worsing, so basically betterworsening.

Verb. verschlimmbessern ( weak, third-person singular present verschlimmbessert, past tense verschlimmbesserte, past participle verschlimmbessert, auxiliary haben ) (somewhat informal) to make something worse in an honest but failed attempt to improve it

Indeed Bigmaec - this is a case of "if it ain't broke, dont fix it" - all of these maps and menus were working fine before - in fact, very fine if you ask me. They were informative and functional. They made sense. They worked, and worked well. Most of all, they were very efficient.

These new menus, screens and maps are unwieldy. They go well beyond "they are just new, you gotta get used to them". They are not efficient. In my own experience and in several youtubers I've watched, they all said the same things: more steps to complete a simple action compared to Horizions.

I understand that with new things, alterations need to be made... but this goes way beyond an alteration. It's a overhaul, but in the wrong direction.

I hope FDev takes the feedback here and makes some needed changes that most people can be agreeable with.

The almighty Rainbow Snakes finally granted me access so I could try for myself and you're right. During the alpha I found and documented a workaround for a bug that prevented this from working properly, but that no longer works and it appears as if that functionality was removed altogether. And due to the alpha forum getting "archived" into oblivion I can't even link to that post to illustrate what I meant... 🤬
Basically one would go to "Ship Loadout", select a slot, click "shop for module", and then have stored modules mixed in with whatever is available for purchase. Apart from the bugs it was a clear improvement over the old UI with less clicks and less searching/scrolling. All I got left is a screenshot I made:

That was the combined view working as expected, the highlighted Experimental category contained only a Flak Launcher I had in storage at that station, after clicking through I was then able to install that into a hardpoint without ever having to leave the Ship Loadout section.

Obviously there is still a lot of work left for FD (as is tradition for a Elite DLC launch 😙) but atm this looks to be worse than what we had in alpha...

Well, at least I found where they've hidden the engineering info:

Nah, too many new keybinds. With Horizons we were already at three button combos for some things, and it was getting literally impossible to add more. And without a mouse, clicking around some of those new buttons on the screen is just hell. If I had to guess, I'd say someone overenthusiastic about mobile development was all "What if players could mount their phone off to the side of their monitor and it acted like the screens in the ingame HUD?"
I doubt it. Noone would be so dumb trying to enforce a tablet / tpuch UI to PC after seeing how bad Win 8 performed. Also not everyone has smart phone. Who would tell their players so abruptly to eff off or get a certain piece of hardware?

Errrr......

It seems I owe an apology. The reason I couldn't see what experimental effect was applied is because there isn't one.

*wanders off trying to avoid eye contact

agreed, the outfitting was fine the way it was, it is atrocious now.
same can be said for the ships menu, disgusting. starts on the left of , so I have no choice but to scroll right through over 500 ships to find the one that's right beside me!!!!!!!!
IDIOT design!!!
every time I look at the ships menu to select a ship I just want to reboot the game, it makes me so mad. not an ounce of smarts went into this.
MORONS
And, gone fishiin for the weekend while we are left with a 100% unplayable game.!!!!!
thanks again fdev.
GOOD JOB even thinking how this should play out.

Sure would be nice ...if only I could re-arm my fing SHIPS in any variation of the game !!!!!

can't even blow up in frustration, cause you broke my shooter and don't seem to give a crap.

They won't change it back now, I think they did it so the game looks more modern to new players rather than for any practical reason, I hate it from a functionalitty point of view and don't like that it looks more like it's in a game (i know it IS in a game) than the old one which looked more like it could be real and had had many years of development and tuning to get it functionally pretty useful. Typical FD if you ask me, they do one or two brilliant things and half a dozen idiotic ones with every update.

We need to push for keeping Odyssey and Horizons clients separate forever. The new Odyssey UI issues are enough where I will not buy it, but if they force it down all our throats... we will have no choice but to kiss EDH goodbye, or use this hot smelly garbage that no one asked for.

edit: i need a spell checker for my posts

I watched some of the outfitting stuff on youtube - it looks completely unusable!

Outfitting is one of the coolest parts of the game. Love building ships.

I agree. It will require players making a stink that is consistent and worse than the punch to their pride FD will perceive if they keep EDH separate. Otherwise they simply won't care how much their players hate it.
