Hotfix - Fix for Engineering Materials Issue

What causes the "Orange Sidewinder" error that prevents playing the game? Is there a quick solution for this or is this some systemic issue?

So I have lost a bunch of materials too, especially high-level, as I always choose them as mission rewards when available.
Is it possible to maybe restore some backup version of the commander data? It hurts to lose several days of recent gameplay, but it hurts more to lose hundreds of hours. It would be much better to have some sort of compensation or all mission-rewarded materials maxed out though ;)

Thank you for the response. I did that... and every other potential fix suggested on these forums. I even removed the game and let steam re-download it. None of it works. Steam will not update the game.

If you are still not able to update I got lucky with one of the methods named by Luna "There's an inelegant workaround for now, which is to to try to hit 'enter' as the launcher is loading, and get in before the 'update' popup appears. I know, it's not ideal. But some people have been able to get updated this way." I posted this little parody on my thread.

UPDATE;
GALNET NEWS FLASH!
While the Thargoids attempt to rid the Galaxy of all humanoid presence by infesting the Odyssey release with numerous "bugs" the most recent being the dreaded "launcher bug", one CMDR, Enegue NoDrellim has successfully thwarted one of these attempts utilizing the infamous "push enter as launcher is loading" technique. While admittedly a shot in the dark requiring untold luck and little timing or skill, and the fact he had tried quite a few times already, CMDR Enegue (e-neg-way) stated "I closed my eyes, tapped my mag boots together three times" and chanted "there's no place like SOL, there's no place like SOL, and smashed that enter key". Remarkably hitting perfectly within the necessary window and to his own astonishment observed as the file sync began! CMDR Enegue also stated he wanted to again thank his fellow CMDR's who came to his aid in the face of this battle and Godspeed to those at FDev faced with the lionshare of this mammoth undertaking. 07!

Greetings Commanders

We were made aware of an issue affecting Engineering Materials that we wanted to fix as quickly as possible. To that end, a hotfix is currently being deployed for Odyssey. This is not expected to disrupt your gameplay or require any downtime.

Thank you for highlighting and reporting any issues you experience. The dev team will continue investigating and fixing them as they come in.

Thank you for your hard work. I’m so tired of the salt from community (Mr Y....) and fake steam & pcgamer review... if people are not happy they can leave and play any other game or respect FDEV as they are not here to serve us as slaves!!! I support FDEV action fully... go go go and once again thank you so much

I too support Fdev's hard work but there is a line and to release the dlc in such a state which can only best be described as an early Beta is not acceptable. I'm not blaming the dev's - that's for sure - I'm responsible for my fair share of bugs over the years as a developer myself. The issue here is there was mere weeks between the Alpha testing and release - not enough time to sort out the issues and seemingly not enough stability testing on the networking side. It reeks of sombody up high making the decision to release now and fix everything onces it's out. If it were just graphical performance issues that'd be one thing - but t here's much more than that!

If I play solo - sure - that's generally alright bar the odd sidewinder/cobra/krait error, but to play with a friend or friends ... nigh on impossible.

I said this back when you first announced the release date of Odyssey - I feel true sorrow for the coders at Frontier. They're having to pay the price twice - first the stress of trying to finish this product to get it out the door in record time, and now again as they are forced to work overtime to fix it.

This of course assumes Frontier is crunching like most software companies do. Maybe all the devs are just sitting around, eating pizza, and playing Space Engineers this weekend. Then again, somebody had to write this patch!
Oh, I've been there.

Me: "it isn't ready"
Manager: "we go live in two days"
Me: "but it isn't ready. There will be issues"
Manager: "we go live in two days"

It goes live

Me: " there are so many bugs, crashes and server issues. Oh my. Everyone is shouting at me!"
Manager: ""let's start another project: we can call it "operation cleanup" and once we fix stuff we'll all be loved again""

there was a link somewhere in Support had all these error codes and some remedies.. hang on..
You might need to log into Frontier to read this, I Had a little trouble trying to find it, my old link didnt take me straight there.

Thank you FDev,

Quite the update this eh. Wishing all the devs involved all the best in working through the list.

I tried handing in a transport mission with a material reward yesterday night around 23 :18 UTC. I previously had no instance of the reward. Got an error message in game, no matter which reward I choose, but no crash. Think the error message said something about mission server not responding or something but didn't take a screenshot. Tried maybe 10 times over a few minutes. In the end just gave up and logged out.

Today when I log in, the mission is no longer in my Transactions even though I hadn't handed it in successfully. I now have the data reward I first tried to claim. I don't mind at all that you fix stuff but it would be easier to know what is happening if you actually tell us :)

Yeah i did, there's a big long list of people who have posted the same to the tracker.
Well as long as they have all posted confirmations and votes on the one report it has a good chance of getting up the priority list, if its a long list of individual reports then the chances are worse.

Does this fix the replacement engineered items too or just mission materials as reward? When you swap engineered items on ships you loose them without warning, the default is "Sale" not "store".

Frankly, there shouldn't be an automatic "store" or "sell" option at all! Rather, any "store" or "sell" option should be an explicit choice that the CMDR has to make, with the bias being towards "store".

All ready lost a fully engineered imperial hammer because of this. Not a real big loss, though, since I'm part of Lavigny's Legion and I have this module essentially perma-unlocked because of all the undermining I do.

@Support Luna : When can we expect to see the materials we lost due to this bug restored to our CMDR accounts? Some of us lost lots of high grade materials because of this bug, such as Modified Embedded Firmware and Biotech Conduits.

Sorry to nag, but in my eyes this bug isn't fixed until both the underlying code is fixed and the materials it caused CMDRs to lose are restored to everyone's satisfaction.
