New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

I took those one because of the crater. It's a very obvious landmark. And it's literally the same one applied over and over. The rest of the planet is very much a repeated pattern, perhaps not a 1 for 1, but it looks very similar with another color.

That crater is pretty much everywhere, a 1 for 1 thing.
Now switch to UltraforCapture and see totally different planet, real one, not approximation.

Its very strange indeed.

So far, It seems I am one of the lucky ones that has not yet encountered this kind of texture problem. All my planets are looking great so far.
The simple fact that the same planet can look different to 2 sets of people means that the problem is not the tech itself.

It is. I've mapped maybe 30 planets so far and I've not been hit with anything so blantant as that. It's so bad I would not be able not to notice. So my guess is some worlds are busted in ways. I do see a lot of that 'digital camo' look on decent to rocky worlds. They need to fix that and the fact that clear quilt lines appear in the on foot perspective when looking at a distant flat plain. If I was running into many of whats been posted here then I would be pretty non-plussed too. But thankfully it's not been the case.

This is the first rebuttal I've seen that actually sounds like a proper rebuttal. Is this similar to the ice planet thread, where different CMDRs are getting totally different results, some good and some rubbish? If so, then maybe you've restored some hope to my sad soul. As long as the repeating texture issue is unintentional and not a design decision, I can hold on till things are fixed.
What bothers me in all these discussions is that some people take the worst screenshots of Odyssey they can find and compare it to the best Horizons screenshots they can find.

Currently I don't wear my fanboy trousers so I am not going to claim that there aren't issues. But I think it's just fair when we also look at the planets which do look awesome.

Yeah, all textures I have encountered so far were great, but there is a non deniable problem for some constellations.

Who cares ? Ultraforcapture is made for screenshot. And is very likely a leftover from promotional screenshot and video.
It's in the name, Ultra for CAPTURE. Not "ultra for play".

And even if it was intended, then why all the other quality setting are the same trash but the highest one ? Why are they all a downgrade to Horizon who ran fine as is ? Why are you defending that ?

It is Wyrd B2. Well, I went dowwn to one of those patterns to 1km or so and it was very much on the planet, I mean it's possible the other two ar just textures high up but really? I am starting to doubt it.

This is of course at the planet itself.

More research needs to be done still. Oh and I should not have to enable a resource-destroying beauty picture mode to not see this, so frankly 'Ultraforcapture' simply isn't a valid option as the name means it's not meant for normal gameplay. Assuming that setting would remove this, which is very well may not.

I dont mean to rain on your parade, but that kind of "repetition" has been there since the release of horizons.

Don't mind him, I play with this setting on, the crater is still there and looking the same.

The difference between both the highest modes are not as drastic as people seem to think.

There are some very obvious issues, one of my favourites is the surface in front of the SRV when driving flattening out, it is very odd...
But none of the ones I have found so far are game breaking, although somewhat interesting!

I'll go back onto my other active account in Colonia and visit a few more bodies - to see if I can find any that are particularly splendid or terrible...

So your potato pcs can run the game at all. This is called optimization and they cant generate fast enough low poly model with unique texture from huge planet fast as this algo with predefined tilesets.

On balance, I prefer Horizons (mostly). Terrain is more fun to explore in the SRV and I think the lighting looks better (or perhaps I just used to it). But I think Odyssey often looks better from orbit.

Except in EDO what you see from orbit is not the terrain that is actually shown on the planet surface after de-orbiting to land. At least that was my experience with 17 planets that have an atmosphere.

There are literally 5 settings for terrain, and you are telling that having they all set to the lowest is intended, and then you go on a personal attack.

You are really a nice person.

Also it's a DOWNGRADE from horizon, who worked fine. Just saying.
