New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

No harm done. It just seems that the setting was made for promotional pictures, and as such are a special case. In fact, it's likely the setting was left by mistake.
yeah probably. I do hope they wont remove it tough as I can see myself doing explo trips with this on (in exploration i dont mind chopy framerates too much and the visual fidelity is stunning)

The first image where it's very obvious and the DSS pattern both look like dragons (the first one like a wyvern breathing fire, looking at it from the side, the second like an eastern dragon)
I'd like to call it the dragon landscape bug.
To me it will always be an upside-down chicken.

one quite old screenshot from Horizons...

I went to pay a visit to Qwent.

Jus to see how badly the update did to him.

Here is the planet Lucifer.

This is not an Icey planet, and I still fail to see the repetition.

And here is the base.

I admit, I find it odd how everything around the base looks sharp and detailed, but the terrain directly around the base looks somewhat low poly.

Besides that, its not that different to horizons.

Another one from Shinrarta Dezhra: planet B 2. System map here:

And here it is in space:

So anyway I've decided to look for repetitions, wasn't hard - in fact there were some on the very planet I was when I booted the game:

and for the UltraForCapture guy I just want to say - I don't have that option:

Must be that 6GB of vram not good enough for it, what about consoles then? eh?
Yeah - that option is not an option, so think about something else when defending this tech.

Edit: spelling correction

I'm so sorry! <3

Hadn't realised you'd updated the vid with the specific analysis - but yeah, that's grim indeed.
I kinda feel bad for focusing on the flattened height stuff when there's also all.....that.

Taken together it's just....so bad. At least there's a few spots that people on feet can take nice screenshots though. It can look great.
But it isn't really. Simplified, reduced and ruined.

Maybe they'll fix it - sort out whatever is happening to reduce the textures, the terrain smoothing and the unholy flatness of everything.

You do realize that what's considered "normal" is what is the most common. The oddity is the less common. Right ?
This guys lod is broken and hes saying that this is normal landscape. This is not true for a correctly working Odyssey. What this guys is trying to achieve by saying that this bug is real procgen?

Its so bad because its a BUG with broken ps1 like lods. My game is working good and I dont have this bug. But this guy is stating that this is normal work of proc gen, and this is false info.

A lot of the fidelity issues exist at different distances. For instance ground textures do actually look very good when you get right up to them, usually that is.

Maybe they focused on getting the new ground gameplay to look its best, and didn't have time to optimise how the terrain looks at 500m all the way up to say 10km. It's pretty obvious it was rushed out. The HUGE inconsistency of how good the game looks seem rather likely to be a result that they didn't have time to work much on certain aspects.

Planets also, for the most part, look good at very high distances. Excluding of course this recent discovery of region cloning.

Some of those examples look SO bad that my common sense tells me it's not at all intended rather than just bad graphics as a consequence of how they designed it.

That odyssey doesn't work properly?
Because it's broken and unfit for purpose?

Do you realize that this is a lod bug? Normal landscape dont look like that.
Believe it or not, I'm trying to keep an open mind about all this. I've asked the producer of the video (I think) some questions regarding it.

Still, the evidence continues to pile up, and it just doesn't look favorable for Odyssey from where I'm standing. I'm definitely not getting my hopes up, not anymore.

Some planet seems OK. I saw a few screenshot here and there. Speaking of the terrain itself, the LOD is buggy and everything look the same from space.
But most planet are flats ? You have gentle hills and that's about it. Once in a while, in a vast desert of nothing you have a weird big mountain out of nowhere.
