Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Hotfix 3

Seems stable other than that, still cant hand in any missions due to "transaction failure" however its unclear if this was addressed or not by this patch.

Keep up the good work

I'm guessing that a lot of people complaining about the number of fixes haven't worked on big pieces of complex software.

The structural issues, like graphics and lighting, can only be worked on by a tight team who will be head down and, hopefully, being aggressively protected from distractions by the dev management (and to those guys and gals, o7 and good hunting). Around that, you will have the rest of the dev team who will be desperate to assist any way they can and dealing with the edge issues that can be safely worked on without impacting anything that the core team is working on (and that bar of 'without impacting anything' will be very high). Fixing these things and getting them out through the release process is great as it allows the testing scope of the structural release to be contained, momentum to be maintained and the release process optimised.

I've not met, or employed, a developer who likes a crisis that cannot be fixed with single line change. I'm sure they are all devastated and wanting to get involved but the truth is going to be that only a few can work the big issues, and so everyone else is doing all they can.

And to the Community Managers, my respect for being out front and giving the dev teams the time to do their jobs. Personally, I've been playing Elite since 1984 and I still can't quite get my head around how we went from those little lines to this.

Although, if I had a request... Could I have the rear guns like we used to in 1984 please. I still have fond memories of coming out of hyperspace and running for the station with a fleet on my heels using the rearview guns to keep them at bay. Happy days...

Thanks for the update and the continued progress.
Tips for forum users:
If they didn't say they fixed it in the first post then there is no point in asking if they fixed it. Either your cognitive ability is a bit low or you are just being annoying.
Don't use works like "Culling" that you heard from someone else. If you don't know why they can't address that at this point, then you need to stop asking low IQ questions about it.
If they had not released the game, you same whiners would be filling up the forums complaining and asking that they please release it early, you're OK with a few bugs.
Is you comment helpful? Does it add value? Does anyone care? - no? then maybe just read.
TLDR

Haz they fixed the trans dimensional hypothetical system that govern that which must be culled in order to magnify the awesomeness of the rate of frames yet.

Haz they fixed everything else not listed in the patch notes yet. Can I haz my own stuffz?

I likesa the cabbage!

They claim to have fixed Apex shuttles, but I'm still stuck, on day 5 of my support ticket with 0 response

Hi @Zac Cocken

Some feedback for the GPU changes...

CPU: i5-4590
GPU: GTX 960 (2gb)
RAM: 12gb
Resolution: 1080p (capped at 60)
Mode: Borderless

Previously I was playing with my machine on Low/Mid/High/Ultra settings and whilst flying low over planets the frame rates were between 20 and 60fps (capped), but as smooth as they can be at those rates. No issues with textures aside from a little popping, but considering my machine they looked lovely.

Landing on a planet (and getting to the SRV/on foot) however led to really poor textures and I'd just not bothered with that too much.

Following the change today Im getting slightly worse frame rates over planets but the main issue a lot of hitching with my CPU and GPU useage fluctuating quite wildly, especially the CPU which is as low as 30% one moment and as high as 80% the next. The GPU is also dipping as low as 80% one second then back up to 95% the next when it was previously up near 100% of useage most of the time. I've noticed the hitching happens consistently when I get below 2km of the surface, above that it seemes to be fine.

The better news however....it's clear that the changes have improved the surface, with textures looking really nice. There's the occasional hitching in the SRV, but nothing compared to flying over the surface. On low settings im getting a steady 40fps in the SRV. Ultra settings (I know, I know it's below spec - but it's sooo pretty!) a steady 20fps. Roughly the same on foot.

Hope this helps!

Toodles!

¿Agrega valor? ¿Le importa a alguien? - ¿No? entonces tal vez solo lea.

I feel like I have to comment to be the other side of the nay sayers:
Please don't make the darkside of planets bright again or 'fix the lighting' as a lot of people have said. It's so much better and feels a lot more immersive.

It's good to remember that the vocal minority or bandwagoning of issues doesn't always represent the community as a whole!

That said, can't wait for the perf fixes, more coop gameplay/functionality and more content down the line :)

P.s don't work too hard, you are only human and there aren't other games like Elite, we can wait.

The hotfix appears to have fixed my LOD graphics issues, no more elevators that look like someone took a lump hammer to them, and my fleet finally looks as they were intended. I haven't had a chance to check much else but given how bad things looked since the Alpha this is a massive improvement. Thanks to all in the dev team all the hard work is so appreciated
