Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Has anyone met another CMDR in open at the station interior yet? I must be at real remote stations or my instancing is odd. Havent run into anyone yet. Ships yes, many. But nothing on foot.
Yes. Actually it happened right after I finished my introductory mission and was thrown into the game.
But I guess the starting location for all Odyssey players is the same so meeting people there is no surprised.

Other than that, yeah. Same as the Horizons before, meeting another player is a rare occasion outside the hotspots. It was a big galaxy before and it's only gotten bigger (and the playerbase was split in half by separate Horizons/Odyssey instancing.
And while meeting another player is rare, meeting another player at a specific location is by definition much rarer.
It's like finding £20 vs. finding a £20 signed by Ian McKellen.

The chance is as well very low, because there is pretty much no reason to stay in the station. FDev hasn't bothered to implement anything social, so people will not stay there, but just move on once their business is done.

I am feeling slightly uneasy. :D

I've mainly been watching a few streamers playing Odyssey as I didn't get the Alpha (but pre-ordered for when it dropped).

I soon realised I didn't know how to do the basics, so thought employing the ol 'watch and learn' strategy would be the best way forward. :)

I had a brief mental aberration yesterday and logged into open and saw several commanders jogging and sprinting around the concourse, I didn't interact with them of course but they were there when I left to try something else.

I am conducting rehearsal for my eventual return to Mare Orientalis by familiarizing myself with the Artemis suit. Right now I am 1000 LY away from the bubble, getting genetic samples. So far, I have obtained three full specimens. I will return to the bubble later today (it takes only 18 jumps).

I like the DBX, but the only drawback is its relatively small fuel scoop. However, with the new FSD, its jump range is almost the same as my exploration Anaconda.

Revisiting some of the abandoned bases I did a little while ago to see if there's anything more to see whilst on foot. So far, nothing. Currently waiting to fold space * to Sharpe Works which expereinced a Thargoid attack. If there's nothing new there, I'll move on to do something else.

* If my carrier makes the jump without crashing the game.

EDIT * Crashed again. What's more, it leaves a nice 24mb file behind which you can opt to send to FD. The thing is, you can't open it because, apparently, it's corrupt :unsure:👌

EDIT 2 Now I've had a comms message stating my jump has failed due to an unknown error and will be replotted. Jeepers. So now I'm fumbling my way around the UI in terms of ship loadout to see what I have in storage that could be fitted to my Beluga. What a mess.

That's a fairly common misconception. You have to remember that it is first and foremost an optimised exploration vessel and the limitation you cite is the inevitable result of the implementation of this fact.
Over the same 1000 Ly Elle Cyd will average 22/23 jumps under normal conditions.

I am currently trying to breach 42K ly. boundary. Star density is noticeably thinner, about 35ly frequency, and i'm going on some long detours, but getting there gradualy. Crossed the track of another lone commander, which was kinda cool.

I just just came back to civilization from gathering some Guardian relics and data in Eta Carina region. Discovered a bunch of systems along the way but not much to write home about. Anyway, I landed at Lave, which seemed appropriate after the Odyssey launch. What can I say, my first visit there since 1984 when I was playing the original Elite.... brought back memories and then some... :)

After admiring the local Concourse for a while, I decided to try one of the "on foot" missions. Restore power to some garden somewhere close. Easy... until I discovered that I needed to "obtain" a power regulator first! I tried at some god forsaken settlement, got shot up badly, ended up in jail. Twice. Obviously, I don't have a clue, eh?

So, getting out of jail wasn't too bad except for the bad taste in my mouth, but where's my ship, I wondered? Where is my beloved Asp Explorer? Took a taxi back home to Columbus station, payed over 100k to transfer my ship here and called it a day. So me and my Asp are now wanted in some settlement! Like I was some criminal! Welp, I'm off to the wilderness, gonna collect me some bio samples and discover a bunch of new worlds! So there...
