Some positives from Odyssey (The little things)

So plenty of other threads to be critical in. I wanted to create a thread where even the most critical of us can list some positive things we have seen.

1. The new particle accelerator impact effects are nice.
2. The way the explosions of ships buffets yours around due to proximity.
3. The fire clouds from ship explosions.
4. Wing beacon being on by default.
5. The individual strikes on areas of the shield.
6. Sparks and effects of engineered weapons kicking up on hull / shield strikes.
7. Heat waves on the windscreen when near stars.
8. In wing multicrew.
9. The mini black hole esq lensing in front of your ship when activating frame shift drive (Not so cool when you are staring into total blackness due to edge of galactic plane and it shows a bunch or stars though).

Keep it going.

A minor detail to some, no doubt, but finding Bio sites in my excursion around 500 LY from Colonia! I've done a lot of 'exploring' between Colonia heading toward Sag A* as I can find many 'interesting' systems (to me) but in the past so little Bio as to be virtually zero.

Most of the ones I have came upon so far were not in alpha, so are totally 'new' for me - happy womble!

1. What about absolutely beautiful surface landscapes. With new both surface and atmosphere.
2. Damn I was amazed by the look of an rock on some ice planet.
3. Or sheer size of an ships. When i stepped out of anaconda (idk meaby it requires triple monitor setup) and saw how huge that thing is. Is this what VR guys were talking about??

Also when anaconda gets hp down to 70% there is neat line of explosions going across the ship. Nice touch.

1. They are rare. Most of the time they are a flat, stretched ugliness, way worse than standard Horizon rock.
2. Good joke
3. Well the VR guys are not the most chatty people at the moment after their experience was partially turned into a flat screen joke castrated and ruined due to performance issues.

Hull explosions on Conda are pre-Odyssey, that wasn't added.

The effects are lovely, but a lot of it gets muted because its so dark. For example, maneuvering thruster plumes (that were bright and chunky in Horizons) are now powered by mostly empty gas bottles and weak looking in Odyssey. Whatever is making everything so dark needs to be removed or drastically dialed back.

As I’m a on foot combat guy, I would like to say that combat is good now, sure some tweaks here and there, but in general it’s very good I like it.

So the atrocious AI got improved, enemies spawning out of thin air, whole base doesn't jump you when you disconnect mid combat and relog and there is some damage model implemented now (as in, no toe shot = head shot) or are we talking "good" as "baby's first FPS good"?

Yes and no. In flat screen Oddyssey you can somewhat see that the ship is quite big. But in VR you're -under- something the size of an aircraft carrier. You can't even start to imagine the size of the ships unless you see them in VR.
I really hope they evolve the game and add proper on-foot VR. We don't need hand controls, we can use the mouse, subnautica style. It would be perfect then. I can't get myself to play Elite flatscreen, sorry. It was too good in VR.

What he said 😁

Plus overall the bodies I landed on so far mostly seem quite nice and way better compared to horizons. Especially a few ice bodies I was on yesterday were really stunning. Didn't do much exploration lately and after the doom posts I thought most would be worse.

Those I have been too had really sharp textures, where different all over from space and on ground... Gives hope that the bad examples we saw might get fixed soonish too.

I like the elevator music a lot. It is as bad as in real life... :)

The take off from an atmospheric moon/planet in daytime is nice, when you ascend with your ship and the sky slowly gets darker until black.

Trash on the floor in stations is a nice touch. If only we could kick it around...

The promotional launch video. My goodness, if Frontier could make games like they make videos, they would own the industry. Maybe Frontier should pivot from being a software company to being a studio, because they make some of the best cinematic videos I've seen for a video game, right up there with the Elder Scrolls Online videos.

I'm talking about the combat isolated, the AI is good, better than is was in alpha, you are pushed more and they are using the environment better, is it perfect no, however it's at a good starting point.

In this example (first fight in the video) you see the AI is actually doing well.

I've posted several videos of FPS combat gameplay, and the AI in ArmA as an example is also doing stupid things sometimes, so nothing is perfect.

We Know combat zones are bugged, and we also know that there are issues with spawning NPCS out of sight, I'm not talking about that, it's the combat itself.
