Game Players Manifesto

They already know what we expect. Unfortunately, they also already know what we will accept.
All Fdev has to do, is iron out a few of the glitches prior to console launch, and the people still left will like as not praise them for it and buy their next DLC. The ones that leave are not the customers they want anymore imo.

What we need is a Game Players Manifesto,
to give developers basic guidelines that we expect in a released game.

I can almost guarantee most players would not like the way I would like things to be, that some players think they should be able to tell the developers what to do when it's almost also guaranteed that I would hate 90% of what they want is rather....entitled. It's their game, they are in charge and they decide what's going to happen based on their desires and player feedback, not on some sort of instruction from the player base, oh yes seems a good spot for this;

OK, How about this for a start: Game must be QA Tested before release.
Hi,
I'm guessing you don't work in software.

What does Game must be QA Tested before release mean?

I could start EDO without errors and see out of my ships cockpit and close it down - QA testing done!
(Like sarcasm? Try https://blog.codinghorror.com/the-works-on-my-machine-certification-program/ )

Or I could have a million different scenarios - QA will be complete sometime in 2025.

I'm not meaning to white knight you here, but my day job involves working with tens of thousands of automated tests plus a team of QAs and I've still only just logged off work at 9pm due to a problem in our systems, and now I'm here waiting for my EDO to patch (but at least we have forums!!! :) )

Finally, Bugs happen and there is a difference between complicated and complex.

Yep, the more stuff you add on top of bugs, just makes it harder to uncover those that came before.
As in simple-vs-complicated-vs-complex-vs-chaotic. (which seems to be the path ED is going)
And yes, I tried a little coding back in the 80's, too tedious, so I understand where your coming from.
But you do see how the Quality of games have dropped year after year, while the hype has risen on par.
The bottom line is, I would rather be enjoying the game, than complaining on the forum, so who's to blame ?

I could quote Helmuth von Moltka the elder here and say "no plan survives first contact with the enemy...everyone seems to think the Fdev team can test their software before releasing it, but even an alpha wouldn't have the number of users the release will have. The only real test of a new version of Elite is to be played by the number of players Elite has

I have to agree with you.
Soooo, If I figure the amount of Time I have spent Grinding in ED, X a minimum wage of $15.00 per hour,
and add that to the purchase price, then multiply that by the number of Players, I think we deserve Better.
At least a Easy and working Bug tracking system, that could have helped to avoid much of this mess.
After all we seem to be the foundation for their QA Team.

I wish it worked that way :)

Unfortunately its more like
("the purchase price" MINUS "the amount of Time I have spent Grinding in ED" x "A cost of running servers")
x "the number of players"

They won't care. We just need to stop pre-ordering and buying bad games. On that end it is our fault. game companies can continue to make poor choices. We just have to stop rewarding them for doing so. We might actually save money in the process.

$15/hr for grinding? How much do you pay to be entertained? you kinda left that part out. If a game is more work then fun you should just wait a few weeks and let Fdev get it together. I pre-bought this expansion (SUCKER) so while I was waiting for it to be released I got NO retrurn on that investment...but it does say I was williing to wait...I can wait some more for a better experience. Meanwhile I get to check out all the new content.

Well about $60 here in Thailand, with no grinding needed on my part.
And I been waiting on Fdev to get it together since ED was released,
but it seems that between adding Nerfs, and Grind loops, there's no time to fix bugs.

The BIG let down for me, was no legs in my Ship, just another FPS on the GROUND.
Seems someone forgot this is a Space Game, Centered around Space Ships.
But as I have said before, it's "Odd I See".

while you wait try exploration! the new game mechanics have added the "first footfall" accolade and sampling life forms. My point was that either your entertainment exceeds your annoyance with the game or you really enjoy complaining...either way Fdev has accommodated you.

LOL a gamer manifesto? No we dont.

Consumers only need 1 freaking thing. a working product. thats it, nothing else. You dont need a manifesto, you dont need some sort of like that.
Literally dont put out a game that does not work and tell us it does.

The probelm is you have a bunch of idiot who defend it like "Oh it ok look they apologized! see?! they are gonna fix it" or idots that buy into pre orders and then dont demand refunds when its hot garbage.

Stop supporting crappy practices like fdev just pulled, and maybe it wont happen again, hit them in the wallet not the ego, they dont care if they loose rep if they made money doing it.

My thoughts exactly. Transparency would maybe have saved them some serious media and player backlash. Has it affected their income? Probably not. But I, as consumer of their products, will hesitate on the next FDev release. The "it will be patched and fixed" community support is letting them off with a shrug a smile. DB kissing journalists enthusiastically in the ear and telling them how important and progressive Odyssey was on livestreams while players were kicked from servers and the game mechanics crumbled, was pretty deceitful. Unless the guy was completely unaware of what was going on with his own creation.

The reason we need a gamer manifesto, is NOT for FD alone, but to ALL.
Seems the industry has gone down the wrong path, and needs some sign posts, to put them on track.
Otherwise we will be paying Top Dollar for Black and White "Pong" re-do's.
Somebody has got to pull Heads out of Big money butts, and put Ears in front of players.

We already had one lol, it was an unspoken agreement of, put out a working product, and we buy it.
Unfortunatly, legions of idiot buy preorders for digitally distributed games, then you have legions of even more idiotic people who defend this kind of practice. If you notice, more and more so people for some reason have loyalty to comapnies and think they can do no wrong, and when they put out garbage, they defend the garbage with classic lines like "Oh they will fix it! dont worry its just launch this always happesn." and basically exucse crappy practices.

We dont need a "manifesto" we just need to stop acting like developers care about us, and actually put them to the coals when the put out crap like this. Refund, and discurage people from buying it.
