Yong Yeas take on Elite Dangerous Odyssey (Not Good)

Never heard of the guy and I'm not aware of him ever showing an interest in Elite: Dangerous before. Seems like a bandwagon jumper and a pretty damn boring one at that (presumably basing his piece on other peoples reviews because he has no first hand knowledge of the game himself?).

Mind you, I only watched the first four minutes ... perhaps it got brilliant after that?
If one is a gaming journalist and reports on legitimate gaming news, is one a band wagon jumper?

If one has genuinely lost time and patience due to an undercooked dlc, and posted an often highly detailed negative review in order to help others not suffer the same, a band wagon jumper? or a review bomber?

As Commander Erei said aforehand, "Journalists are no soldiers, but they cover wars just fine."

I find the Wall Street Journal to be incredibly boring, but I do not dismiss its influence.

To my knowledge, he doesn't even play the game.
He's regurgitating the current news for the internet-points. He wants to generate clicks, so he reports on a topic that's currently gained a lot of traction.

So why should anyone care about the opinion of someone who doesn't know his Asp from his AspX?
So the news shouldn’t discuss world issues because they weren’t at the scene or the score from yesterday’s football game they didn’t watch. Holy crap, he’s just pointing out the obvious and showing the evidence of the backlash to back it up. Is there anything he was falsely stating or you’re just mad he doesn’t share your opinion?

It's not about "better". People have been complaining since the Babylonian that things gets "worse". It's about the change of time, and realizing that it changed. Either you adapt or you are left behind.

They do though. Companies spend fortunes on them for a reason. They are called "influencer" for a reason.

It doesn't matter if Triptych say he doesn't care.

Yes, they're called influencers for a reason; possibly a bad one. Do you think it's possible that companies who spend money on "influencers" could be wrong? It does happen you know. People being wrong, I mean. I'd like to know exactly how much dosh these guys get, from who, and exactly who is genuinely influenced by them, how many, and how you'd know.

As to my own insignificance.......I'm aware of it. Irritatingly, however, and in spite of the fact that no company pays me (very wisely I might say), I'll continue to express my opinions. Better grit yer teeth.......

Considering they are making more money with each passing years, I'd say they are right.

People are at this point are just shoving their metaphorical fingers in their ears. It has been explained ad infenitum that it does not matter if you have heard of Yong or not. It does not matter if you think he has a point or not. It does not matter how much influence you think he may or may not have. You can screw up your ears and dismiss him as irrelevant. It does not make it so.

To you his video will have no effect whatever but you don't matter. You have already bought in. You are invested. The many many people who have not yet bought in will see it and will be influenced by it. They are the people FDev want (and need) to attract. It is bad for FDev, bad for the game and bad for us. Whatever side of the fence you are on in this current crisis it can and will affect you and the game you love.

You can sit there in denial all you like but the reality is that for purely financial reasons (to get the game delivered before the financial year ends) Fdev thought it worth trashing the reputation of the game and selling their loyal playerbase a broken unfinished mess. THAT is the message that people are hearing in the wider gaming community. You can try to dress it up, you can decry or defend it but the only people listening to you and me don't matter. We are already here.

That's the whole point. You don't like the message? Just discredit the source. Fake news!

5 minutes in... did he play the dlc by himself or is he just quoting opinions of others on the web for over 15 min?
He's "job" seems to be reporting game's major issue. Not to do let's play.
Whether you believe he is just there for clickbait and dramas, or that he expose shaddy doing, that's up to you. I don't even know that guy myself.

As I said earlier, journalists are not soldiers, but the cover wars just fine.

Back in the days you used google to find out more about folks you hadn't heard of before.
Nowadays you post 'Who?' and parade your ignorance.
I actually did google the guy. Google told me this.

So, I'll ask....who?

People are saying "Oh noes, this important Youtuber guy said tghe bad things!" and literally Google doesn't even know who he is.

So what, then? Some guy (who has never played the game) read a bunch of negative reviews and recited them (poorly) for nearly 18 minutes (of which I couldn't make it past two) and now, doom?

Cool.

Carry on.

Well had you typed Yong Yea you might realise Google does indeed know who he is.

People vastly underestimate the influence of streaming.

Games like Fall Guys, Among Us, Phantasmaphobia, and Rocket League owe almost all of their success to streamers.
Among Us is the best example. Was released and completely flopped for almost a year. Cue a bunch of streamers and suddenly it becomes one of the biggest games of the year.

Remove the space between Yong and Yea. One word. I haven't heard of the guy and don't care for his opinion as it isn't anything I haven't already heard from articles, other streamers and reddit/these forums. But it seems like ya'll are just being willfully obtuse like none of you have used a computer the last couple of years lol.

I asked why should we give a damn about the opinion of a Youtuber who doesn't even play the game. The post was clearly written as if this random persons opinion is meant to matter .. why? Because he has a lot of subs? Big whoop. It doesn't make his opinion carry any more or less weight.

I'm not mad, I also didn't state my opinion one way or the other.
