Ah. I think I misunderstood the "All base game owners will get Horizons" then.
Nonetheless, my point stands - if you get in trouble in Odyssey, you can't just switch to the Horizons version - you would have to have it installed as a separate client.
Care to explain?
I have the base game, Horizons and Odyssey. I can launch either of them from the same launcher. If I ever get into trouble in Odyssey, I can just log off and launch Horizons from the same launcher, without having to fiddle with anything...
The only things is, that once I do that, I get warning: Game cannot load, your save game is on or near a planet. Recover to orbit, or cancel the load?
So I do have an option to recover to orbit, no issues here...
BTW, I just tried that, just to confirm that it is possible...
EDIT: I did not click "Launch to orbit" to be precise... I just cancelled the load, because my ship is in a very nice place on the planet surface and I intend to explore te area a bit... If I click "Launch to orbit", I may not find that place again... So I hope your point does not mean, that there would be an issue after I click "Launch to orbit"...
